On April 30th, Officer Johns responded to assist State Troopers Ricardo Magana and Patric Ignaszewski at the scene of a multiple vehicle crash on I-35 near Faribault. Ofc. Johns assisted the troopers in providing life-saving first aid to one of the drivers. All three officers are being recognized for preventing the driver from bleeding to death. Ofc. Johns will receive the award at the State Patrol’s annual awards ceremony in the near future. Congratulations for a job well done! Our two School Resource Officers, Detectives Kara Christensen and Brittany Owen, attended School Resource Officer training over MEA break, October 15-17. The annual training conference covers a variety of topics for officers working in schools. Bill Wyman Born October 24, 1936 Warrant Arrests On Tuesday, October 21st, Detective Matt Kolling found Zachary Wellentin, 27, walking down the street. Wellentin was the subject of a Rice County warrant for Theft and Financial Transaction Card Fraud. Wellentin was arrested and jailed without incident. On Thursday, October 23rd, Sergeant Brandon Gliem saw Nicholas Norstad, 33, as he was driving down the street. Knowing he was the subject of a warrant, he called for assistance. Officers Justin Hunt, Ben Johns and Dustin Delmonico responded and he was taken into custody. His warrants were for Burglary, Theft and Damage to Property. Also in the vehicle with Norstad was Sara Nelson, 25. Officers learned that Nelson was the subject of her own arrest warrant for 5th Degree Controlled Substance. Nelson was also arrested and jailed without incident. In partnership with Faribault Public Schools, training was held at Faribault High School on Friday and Saturday, October 17th and 18th. Sixty-eight public safety professionals from SE Minnesota, including police, fire, EMS and dispatch personnel, learned about “3 Echo” protocols. This training involves how to respond to an active shooter incident, particularly after the initial response by law enforcement. The attendees focus on how to safely enter a scene, work together and rescue civilians caught in one of these incidents. Ser- geant Brandon Gliem, Detectives Matt Kolling, Kara Christensen and Brittany Owen, and Officers Tom Mueller and Tony Kuchinka attended the training. Our goal is to have all officers attend the training and be familiar with the response protocols. Questions? Comments?
