ST. PATRICK’S CHURCH
The
Commemoration of
the Faithful Departed
All Souls Day
2 November 2014
Year A
This day of commemoration began
early in the Middle
Ages with annual
prayers for the dead
in monastic communities. Fixed on this
day, it spread more
widely after the tenth
century and now
ranks with the principal feast days in the
liturgical calendar.
Commonly known as
All Souls, it expresses Christian faith in
the communion of
saints and our need to
pray for one another
in the church.
From the Pastor,
Greetings fellow parishioners.
November is traditionally the month for those who have died, 2 Maccabees says that
it is a holy and wholesome though to pray for the dead. This year our Holy Souls
commemoration falls on a Sunday and the prescent to Sunday’s in Ordinary Time.
We remember our dear loved ones this day and throughout November. Our November Mass envelopes are placed at the foot of the Pieta and remembered at every
Mass through November. Just a reminder that only recently deceased and those
celebrating anniversaries during November will be published in the bulletin.
Please keep in your prayers our pilgrims who will be travelling this weekend from
their pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Prague and Malta and returning home. We hope
and pray that they return happy and have been enriched with many blessings from
their experience while on pilgrimage.
Next Sunday we will be having our Charitable Works Fund Appeal.
Next Sunday we will welcome Jim Jankiewicz who will speak to us about a parish
programme that invites men to speak to men about spiritual matters of their lives.
See back page of the bulletin.
