Riley Street Reminder - Hudsonville Public Schools
January 9, 2015
What’s Right with Our School...
★A wonderful school board that guides us,
provides for us, and supports us as we work
daily with the students and families at Riley
Street Middle School. January is School
Board Recognition Month. Thank you to
Ken Hall, Mark Davis, Jim Stuck, Larry
Kapenga, Dawn Sneden, Mike Ostrander,
and Steve Bowerman for their service to the
Hudsonville Public Schools.
★8th Grade Exams! Students in our world
language classes and Algebra IA class have
an opportunity to earn credit towards high
school graduation right here in the middle
school. Good luck as you begin to prepare
for exams!
★Congratulations to Grace Meekhof for
winning the annual Spelling Bee. John
Stoutenberg finished second. Over twenty
students competed in this school wide
competition. The winning word was
PORTRAIT. Good luck to Grace and John
as they prepare to compete in the regional
Spelling Bee in February.
★S/O to Ben Hooper who correctly designed
the solution to Mrs. Smit's Jelly Bean
Problem.
★Liz Myaard for helping with the volleyball
nets each morning this week in physical
education class.
★S/O to our newly enrolled students for
adding new smiles to the halls at RMS as
well as the students who have welcomed
them with true Eagle Spirit!
★Andrew Reyes for being a positive
example to his peers by working extremely
hard in History class. Way to go Andrew!
★The many opportunities available for our
students this winter. Students are
encouraged to get involved and stay
involved with Renaissance, Science
Olympiad, and Beauty & the Beast, Jr.
7th/8th grade students can also sign up for
boys swimming and diving, boys wrestling,
and girls basketball. 6th grade intramurals
will start again in early February.

A WEEKLY NEWS NOTE FROM RILEY STREET MIDDLE SCHOOL
Riley Street Middle School
2745 Riley Street, Hudsonvi!e, MI 49426
Phone: 616-896-1920
Riley Street Middle School is excited to
announce that we will be performing
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. this spring!
A parent informational meeting is
scheduled for Thursday, January 15, from
7:00 pm to 7:30 pm in the RMS Media
Center.
Parents are encouraged to attend to get all of the
information about participating in this activity. Students may pick up
on-stage audition packets or backstage applications in the Main
Office. Sign-ups for auditions are outside of the band room.
Auditions are scheduled for Thursday, January 22 in the choir
room. Each audition slot is 15 minutes long. Students are asked to
arrive to the auditions 15 minutes before their scheduled time. All
backstage applications are due to Mrs. Maurice before the end
of the day on Thursday, January 22. Students auditioning for a
role must turn in their applications at the time of their audition.
Please contact Mrs. Maurice if you have any additional questions
(smauric@hpseagles.net). The performances are April 24 at 7pm and
April 25 at 4pm. A rehearsal schedule is included in the student
packets.
Undertaking a large project such as a musical requires us to raise
funds to offset the significant costs associated with a musical. Two
fundraising events will take place after school next week that
students can get involved in.
7th and 8th graders are invited to stay after school
from 2:45 PM - 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 15th
for a dance. Cost to attend the dance will be $5. In
addition, a concession stand with pizza and other
snacks will be available for purchase at a nominal cost.
6th graders are invited to stay after school from
2:45 PM - 5:00 PM on Friday, January 16th for a
Movie/Pizza party. We will be showing the movie
Beauty and the Beast and playing a few games in
the gym. Cost to attend the movie/pizza party is $5.
