A Message from the Padre
This coming Wednesday we begin the Season
of Lent by celebrating…Ash Wednesday. Ashes are place on
our forehead as a symbol of repentance for our sins. It calls us
to “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.”
These words offer a closer meaning to our Baptismal
promises to reject sin and to profess our faith. Also,
being marked with a cross of ashes on our forehead reminds
us of our mortality that we come from dust and to
dust we shall return.
My dear friends, Lent is not the time for self-piety,
self-accusation or self-pity. It is not the time for blame for what
we have done. But it is about moving closer to God. It is about coming home to
God who is the source of all goodness and love. It calls us to move on
from the past and to come home where God waits for us in
forgiveness and love.
So, as we journey through these forty days of Lent, let our goal
not be just to abstain from sin or do an act of goodness and piety but let us
unite ourselves with God by reconciling ourselves in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation and to prepare ourselves for the Great Mystery of the
Fr Joe
Death and Resurrection of Christ.

can remain free. Members of our parish family are requested to provide the names of their loved ones so they can be remembered in our
prayers.

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sixth Sunday in
Ordinary Time
Mark 1: 21-28
Today’s first reading and Gospel show us
just how Jesus moves beyond the expected
to bring about God’s reign. The first reading establishes the standard procedure for
dealing with lepers and their disease. Jesus reaches out and
touches the leper, breaking the barriers established by tradition
and in so doing proclaiming a new era of grace, healing, and
hope. How can we follow his example in breaking down barriers today?
