We have rented a Soccer Field from 6:00 to 7:00pm the cost will be $5.00 and you should bring money for snacks. Box 619 East Taunton, MA. 02718 March 1, 2015 HOLY FAMILY EAST TAUNTON 2nd Sunday of Lent SURVEY FOR THE LAITY In October 2014, the Synod of Bishops met in Rome on the topic of The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization. The final report of this Synod, entitled Relatio Synodi, was issued in December. Pope Francis indicated that it would serve as the preparatory document or Lineamenta for the October 2015 XIV General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which will address, The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World. The Lineamenta concludes with a series of questions proposed for reflection by all members of the Church in preparation for the upcoming Synod. A summary of these questions has been prepared at the direction of Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha for lay members of the Fall River Diocese to offer input. LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO SIT WITH SICK PARISHIONER We have a senior parishioner who was diagnosed with cancer and is having a difficult time with her diagnosis. Her daughter is caring for her and is looking for an adult to sit with her occasionally so she can run errands and not have to leave her alone. If you are interested in volunteering to help, please speak with Fr. Kevin for more information. STATIONS OF THE CROSS Each Friday during Lent we will pray the Stations of the Cross in the church at 7:00 p.m. EXTRA CONFESSIONS DURING LENT Along with the regular Tuesday (5:45-6:45 pm) and Saturday (3:00 – 3:50 p.m.) confessions, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered after each daily morning Mass, and each Wednesday from 5:45-6:45 p.m. LAWS OF ABSTINENCE Don’t forget during Lent for those who are 14 years of age and older they are obliged to observe the laws of abstinence which one is to abstain from meat all Fridays of Lent. THE ROMEIRIA Each year many people of all ages take part in the traditional Romaria (a custom from the Azores of praying the Rosary and other intentions throughout the whole day as one walks to different parishes throughout Taunton. It will be on Saturday, March 21st beginning at St. Anthony’s Church at 7:00 a.m. and finishing with a Mass at St. Anthony’s at 6:30 p.m. the Romeiros will be stopping at Holy Family at 9:45 am for anyone who would like to see them and join them in prayer while they are here. All are welcome to participate. The rehearsals are March1st, 8th, and 15th at 4:30 p.m. at St. Anthony’s hall (126 School St., Taunton). EMMAUS RETREAT On March 20th – 22nd, there will be an Emmaus Retreat for people ages 20 and up who are seeking to grow in their relationship with Christ. It is a Catholic retreat though it is open to people of all Christian faiths. It provides participants the opportunity to experience and share their journeys of faith in a loving community. The retreat will be held at Cathedral Camp in East Freetown. It is always an enjoyable evening and some delicious soups. Tickets are $7 and will be sold after the Masses this and next weekend (and at the doors the day of). FAMILY GAME NIGHT Many thanks to all those who organized, help run, and participated in last week’s Family Game Night. Unfortunately because of bad weather the turn out was small but it was a truly enjoyable time. NEED COVERAGE FOR ADORATION We are in need of coverage for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Thursdays 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. and Wednesday evenings from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. ANNUAL ST. PATRICK’S DINNER Are you a last minute decision maker and have not made plans for Sunday? Good, then come join us for the 20th annual Knights of Columbus St. Patrick’s Day Dinner this Sunday at the Holy Ghost Hall. We still have tickets left and they can be purchased after the 4:00 Mass on Saturday or on Sunday at the door of the hall. We’ve got two seating's: one for the early crowd 1 – 4 pm and one for the late crowd 5 – 8 pm. For your entertainment pleasure we’ll have Irish Step Dancers from the O’Shea Chaplin Academy of Irish Dancing of Greater Boston and music performed by the Black Velvet Band. There are door prizes, raffles, plenty of food and fun. We even have pasta and hot dogs for all. Each year the number of families with children keeps increasing. Join us for some Irish fun. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids under 12. SPRING BIBLE STUDY A new six week Bible Study course will begin on Tuesday, March 24th at 7:00 p.m. and end on April 28th. The classes will be held at the Holy Family Parish Center. The title of the course is: Exodus: God to the Rescue. Through the deliverance story of Moses and the Israelites we will discover new insights on how our own lives can be transformed. All are welcome to join us for this Bible Study. You must register for this Bible Study by March 15th in order to have the study guides in time for the course. Registration forms are at the doors of the church. Please drop the completed form at the Parish Center or in the mailbox at the rectory.
