7-10 p.m.; Coleman Auditorium, Coleman Hall
“Prodigal Sons” tells the story of a trans woman returning
home for her high school reunion, an event that forces her
to face her family and explore her own identity. Following
the viewing of this documentary, there will be a facilitated
discussion on issues that were raised in the film.
1-4 p.m., Library Quad
The LGBTQA Resource Center will be selling “Gay? Fine By
Me” t-shirts during this event for a donation of $7.50 a shirt.
Individuals wishing to purchase a shirt will have the ability
to choose from a variety of colors and sizes. For individuals
wishing to take part in the Day of Silence on Friday, April
17th, please stop by and pick up a button to signify your
participation.

and Discussion
April 14th
EIU Pride Bonfire
7-9 p.m.; Campus Pond
Come join EIU Pride, as well as members of the LGBTQA
Advisory Committee, for refreshments and fireside
conversation as they celebrate Pride Week.
April 15th
“Paris Is Burning” Documentary
and Discussion
7-9 p.m.; Phipps Auditorium, Physical Science Building
“Paris Is Burning” focuses on drag queens living in New
York City, during the 1980s, and their “house” culture, which
provides a sense of community and support for the flamboyant
and often socially shunned performers. Groups from each
house compete in elaborate balls that take cues from the world
of fashion. The film also touched on issues of racism and
poverty.
April 16th
Safe Zone: Phase 1 Training
8-10 a.m.; Effingham Room, MLK Jr. Union
This training is open to any student, University employee, or
community member who is interested in becoming an ally
for the LGBTQ community and learning more about LGBTQrelated issues. Topics that will be addressed include: LGBTQ
terminology, the coming out process, heterosexual privilege,
facts and myths about the LGBTQ community, the Riddle
Homophobia Scale, and ways to engage in quiet activism.
April 16th
Safe Zone: Phase 2 Training
10 a.m.-12 p.m.; Martinsville Room, MLK Jr. Union
This phase of the training is a case study-based, applicationfocused session. Participants will gain the tools they need to
not only provide resources, but to become an active participant
in making EIU’s campus a more supportive, inclusive, and
affirming place for LBGTQ people. Completion of Phase 2 will
result in becoming an identified Safe Zone Ally. “Gay? Fine By Me” T-shirt Sale/
Day of Silence Button Distribution
April 16th
Candlelight Vigil
7-9 p.m.; Doudna Steps
At this vigil, names will be read as a way of honoring victims
who have died due to anti-gay violence. We have come a long
way over the past several decades, but there is still more work
that needs to be done. Please join us in showing your support
for the LGBTQ+ community.
April 17th
Day of Silence
This is a national event where individuals can choose to take
a vow silence for the day as a way of showing respect for
members of the LGBTQ+ community who have lost their lives
due to bullying, anti-gay violence, depression, and suicide.
April 17th
Night of Noise
6-9 p.m.; Library Quad
Directly following the Day of Silence, all participants are
encouraged to join EIU Pride and members of the LGBTQA
Advisory Committee as they celebrate the voices of the
LGBTQ+ community with a night of music and poetry.
April 13th-17th
Trans Women Clothing/Cosmetic
Collective
At each event during Pride Week, there will be collection boxes
available for anyone who wishes to donate clothing, makeup,
perfume, and other cosmetics as a way of helping trans
women.
