Ribbon Ceremony Mass
What a wonderful Mass! For those whom are not
aware, Immaculate Conception has a Ribbon Ceremony
conducted annually. The ceremony recognizes our 8th
graders last mass with the school. This recognition
consisted of a principal’s introduction, letters read by
the 7th graders to the 8th graders and letters read from
the 8th graders to the school and their parents. At the
altar, each 7th grader presents an 8th grader a ribbon
signifying completion of their wonderful educational
career here at IC. Tears and hugs were shed. They grow
up very fast parents! Congratulations!
Athletic Banquet
Last Thursday was our Athletic
Banquet. It was a wonderful
gathering of all the athletic talent
IC possesses. Each team was
recognized for their efforts not
only as a group but as individual
participants. The evening ended
with the “Justin Mello Award”.
This award was created through
the partnership of the Knights of Columbus and the school. Justin Mello was a former student
who unfortunately lost his life in 2000. Justin exemplified character, citizenship, athletics and
academics. Therefore, this award encompasses all 4 qualities. Judging for this 8th grade award
was a difficult challenge. I would like to announce that the 2015 Justin Mello award recipients
are: Reece Wooten and Lauren Luzynski. Congratulations! Thank you to the coaches for all
their time in volunteering and hard work. And to our parents, thank you for all you do for our
student athletes and sports program. Additionally, we would like to thank Mrs. Gafa for the
organization of Thursday’s celebration. Lastly, thank you to our Athletic Directors, Mr. and
Mrs. Luzynski, for all of their hard work, drive, and dedication to this community!

8th Grade graduation – A Must See!
June 8th - 6:30pm
All IC and prospective IC parents, if you have never been to the graduation mass for
the eighth grade, which is hosted by the seventh grade, you need to make a point
and go! I went to this mass a couple years ago, and I could not believe how great it
was! These kids have grown up together, and when you see them come together
for their final mass, and then go have their last dance together, it is quite emotional
and heartfelt. They are like their own little family, and by 7th and 8th grade, you
can see that they really do have a strong faith, and deep feelings for one another.
If you have ever had second thoughts about IC and about Catholic School, this will
cement your decision to send your children to IC and TELL friends about IC.
To see how these kids grow up together in faith and friendship, please come to the
graduation mass. Your heart will be warmed, have a smile on your face, and maybe
even a tear in your eye, but you will be so glad you came to witness this beautiful
event, of how IC sends our kids off into the big world. It makes you feel like you
made the right choice, "mom and dad"!

What’s happening at IC
Career Day:
Thank you to Mr. Darga ( Jenna 2nd gr.), Mr. DeMonaco (Anthony 7th gr.) , and Mr. Pavlik (Mrs. Pavlik 3rd gr.) for
presenting to the 5th through 8th graders last Friday, “Career Day”. Mr. Darga had a few future firefighters suit up in
the protective gear used in emergencies. It was much heavier than the students had expected. Mr. DeMonaco shared
the rewards and benefits as well as the challenges that come with being a business owner. He also shared the
importance of giving customers the best service and production available. And lastly, Mr. Pavlik shared the day in the
life of a police officer and chief of police. The protective “riot shield” had students feeling very protected. Thank you
to all of these men who gave generously of their time and talents to our students.
The Cross and the Light:
A few excerpts from reflective essays written by the seventh graders about the theatrical production
“The Cross and the Light” which students saw May 15th:
Steven DeDalis: “My favorite song was “Hosanna” which was the opening song. The actors sang it courageously and
thoroughly. They also added a lot of movement that contributed to the amazing scene. This is one of the reasons I
was moved emotionally during the play.”
Nick Kleisinger: “I enjoyed the fact that Jesus was played by an African American man. He was a very good actor. …It
changed my outlook on how Jesus looked, but I realize that it doesn’t matter what he looks like. It only matters what
he (Jesus) did. “
Anthony DeMonaco: “The Cross and the Light was an incredibly profound performance. There were three major
things in the play that spiritually moved me. One was when Pilate did not want to kill Jesus. …The sound of Pilate
singing and it echoing off of the wood ceiling and hearing his sharp words of confusion…that was emotional.”
Sophia Gafa: “At the end of the play, Jesus asked us, “How will you respond?” We should all be deciding how we will
respond to Christ. Being a Christian, we need to dedicate a part of our lives to our Creator. Christ does so much for us
and we need to appreciate his love. Going on the field trip definitely helped me understand how important the Lord is
in our lives. “
