Back to School Bash a success Deaconess Carolyn Ford along with Pastor, Bishop Bernard Taylor, and First Lady Cynthia Taylor would like to thank the volunteers and the nearly 200 people that took part in their “Back to School Bash Program” at God’s Glory Ministries in Wildwood on Aug. 22. The 4th Annual Back to School Fest — Project Excel was a huge success in distributing over 200 drawstring book bags, paper, pencils, hand sanitizer, glue and other school supplies to students in the community. Entertainment included bounce houses, face painters, clowns and door prizes in the form of WalMart gift cards. Words of encouragement were sent to the group by Mayor Ed Wolfe, Commissioner Pamela-Harrison Bivins of Wildwood, and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. In attendance at the event: Cindy Brooker from Cindy Brooker Chevrolet; Lt. Valentino from the Wildwood Police Dept.; Mr. “Hamp” Hampton, principal at Wildwood Middle/Senior High School and Mr. Presley, asst. principal at the school. Pastor Danny McKenzie of Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church in Wildwood; Pastor Louis Leon from the Head Start Program and One Man Involvement; Pastor Brian Tillman of Sunset Park Church of God; Pastor Zack and members of the Rock of Ages Lutheran Church in Wildwood; Bishop Wallace of The Pinnacle Church of God; Pastor Tony Jones of BW City Ministries. Community businesses and individuals participating: Butch Miller from Chick-filA donated free coupons; the Lions Club of Wildwood; Gary Knight; Dina Martinez of the Sumter County Health Dept.; Checkers restaurant in Leesburg; Winn-Dixie in Wildwood; Ms. Cassandra of the Early Learning Coalition in Wildwood; Tamara Stecewycz of Sun Harbor Realty; Youth Dir. Elaine Thompson of God’s Glory Ministries; James David of Backpack Gear, Inc. in Orlando, and Bishop Leslie Hannah. The group also featured a panel of experts who shared a wealth of information and experience with the crowd. Panelists were: Brenda Boyd, retired school administrator spoke on “The Importance of Parental Involvement.” Norma King, Florida certified reading teacher spoke on, “Foundational Strategies for Reading.” James Presley, assistant principal, Wildwood Middle/Senior High School, spoke on “Positive Discipline/Student Expectations.” Debbie Moffitt, Director District School Board of Sumter County, spoke on “Success of Sumter’s Schools.” Michael Foote, Chairman of the Sumter School Board, “Success of Sumter’s Schools.” Beverly Steele, CEO & Founder of Young Performing Artists, Inc. spoke on “Self-esteem, Cultural Arts & Education.” Arthur Boyd, retired school administrator, “Positive & Negative Networking: Where They will Take You.” Laura Satterfield, teacher, Dwight Morrow High School in New Jersey, “High School Curriculum & Parental Involvement.” Pervis Riley, local entrepreneur for The See HEROES, C2 Lexsi-caye Cannings, Rachel Morris and Zachary Cannings at a Eustis volleyball game.
