Those words aren’t enough to express our gratitude for
the warm welcome to Sandusky and Firelands Regional
Medical Center that my family and I have received. As
new members to the community, we have experienced,
first-hand, the giving nature of everyone we have met
and now call friends. This is especially evident in the
support Firelands Regional Medical Center receives
from our donors, who help us carry on the mission each
and every day of providing the highest quality, most
compassionate care in the region.
Positive Attitude. Enduring Commitment. Contagious
Enthusiasm. These are the values that drive our
outstanding board of directors, professional staff,
physicians, nurses, technologists, therapists, employees
and volunteers – highly trained, highly connected, all
given the power to care, the desire to make a
difference. That power and that connection
will continue to attract and retain the finest in
medical talent to our facility. This dedication
to teamwork is what makes Firelands Regional
Medical Center stand out as the leader in
providing care to the communities we serve.
The most successful teams benefit from the

the team. On the following pages you will

the many members of our team. These
accomplishments and programs would not be possible
without the generous support of our community and the
people we serve. Your continued support “connects the
dots” to provide Firelands with the resources to continue
to meet the healthcare needs of our community as we
navigate the uncertain waters of healthcare reform.
With the downturn in the economy and the aging of our
population, healthcare reform has focused on lowering
the cost of care, while at the same time increasing
quality. Greater collaboration and coordination amongst
providers will allow the healthcare system to become
more efficient and thus to deliver greater value to you,
our patients. Firelands has committed to delivering value
to our patients through a number of important initiatives:
• We continue to implement electronic medical records in both inpatient and outpatient settings to improve accuracy, communication, and the
coordination of care.
• Working with our physicians, we have started to
implement our physician order entry system
2 which will continue to enhance and improve the
process and quality of care we deliver.
• Future initiatives will include implementation of a
barcoded medication system to improve the safety of
medication delivery and implementation of an
electronic medical record in the Emergency
Department to improve the flow of information
throughout the Medical Center.
Firelands Physician Group, our multi-specialty group
practice, continues to grow and add physicians to provide
care throughout the region we serve. The practice
provides primary care and specialty services allowing
our patients to access care locally from a trusted source.
This integration of physician practices continues to add to
the services we provide and enhances the care delivery
system. As we continue to grow, be assured that our
focus on increasing quality, efficiency and
value is our top priority. We hope that when
you need a physician, Firelands Physician
Group will be your first choice.
In addition to the great care provided by
Firelands Physician Group, Firelands Regional
Medical Center has several top-rated
programs as evaluated by HealthGrades,
the leading independent healthcare ratings
company who rates the quality of care
provided at approximately 5,000 hospitals
across the country. For 2013, HealthGrades
ranks Firelands Regional Medical Center #1 in Ohio in
Spine Surgery and in the top 5% nationally. In addition,
Firelands Regional Medical Center ranks #4 in Ohio in
both Orthopedic Services and Vascular Surgery, and
holds a five-star rating for the treatment of heart failure.
We are proud of these and the many other distinctions
that our physicians and staff work tirelessly to achieve to
make our region stronger and healthier.

For Endocrine And Diabetes Care
Firelands Regional Medical Center Endocrine and Diabetes
Center for Advanced Care opened its doors in September
of 2011, providing the region’s first and only comprehensive
program for patients with Endocrine and Diabetes conditions.
Treating over 10,000 patients in its first year of operation
with the need continuing to grow, the Center provides
evaluation, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and management
of endocrine and diabetes conditions.
Under the direction of Ahmad F. Sabbagh, MD,
Endocrinologist & Lipidologist and Jean T. S. Feick, MSN,
CNP, CDE, Certified Adult Nurse Practioner and Certified
Diabetes Educator, both with Firelands Physician Group,
patients with hormone diseases such as diabetes, metabolic
disorders, thyroid disease, and hypertension can now be
cared for in Sandusky.
“75% of our patients are overweight, with a Body Mass
Index between 25 and 30, or obese, with a Body Mass
Index of 30 or more. As a population, we have become too
sedentary, and our diet is too high in sugar, fat and salt,
leading to growing levels of disease that could have been
avoided,” says Dr. Sabbagh. “In our office, we take diabetes
very seriously. We are strong patient advocates, providing
education and information so individuals can do all they
can for a healthy life. ”
Jean Feick, the Center’s Certified Diabetes Educator explains,
“The A1C test (glycated hemoglobin) measures your average
blood glucose level over the previous two to three months.
In the Endocrine and Diabetes Center for Advanced Care,
an A1C of seven percent or higher is not tolerated.”

Feick says if patients can keep their A1C levels under seven
percent, this reduces the risk of complications and other
health issues. She assures patients that their journey to
better health and managing their diabetes is not one they
will walk alone.
“Our staff stays with our patients every step of the way,
providing encouragement, information and methods to
achieve their health goals,” she says.
Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to heart disease, kidney
disease, and other health issues. According to the Erie
County Health Department 2008 Community Assessment,
10% of Erie County adults had been diagnosed with
diabetes.
In addition to treating diabetes, the Center also provides:
• Screening for thyroid cancer, hypo- or hyperthyroidism
• Treatment for osteoporosis and determination of whether
oral, IV infusion, or subjanctaneous injections will
provide the best treatment for the patient
• Treatment of male reproductive hormone issues
• Treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (whose
complications include insulin resistance, obesity
and infertility)
• Management of inpatient diabetes
• Glucose management for all open-heart patients to
improve healing and decrease the risk of complications.
Dr. Sabbagh dreamt of becoming an Endocrinologist in high
school, due to his family’s background of obesity and high
cholesterol.
“We all need to get active, eat healthily, control our portion
sizes, and treat diabetes early and aggressively to prevent
heart disease. Make sure you have routine visits to your
primary care physicians, and if you find that you have any
abnormalities with your hormones, we’re here to help you.”

For A Healthier Community
A hospital has always been a place where people receive
medical, surgical, or psychiatric care, provided by a team
of physicians, surgeons, nurses, and medical professionals.
In recent years, the healthcare field has seen emerging
trends in preventive care and disease management
outcomes by targeting different at-risk populations. As a
response to this overall trend, the Community Outreach
Department has hired Angela Brickner as the Population
Health Nurse to help to educate people and improve the
health of the populations that live and work in this region.
“We have many at-risk populations right here in Erie
County facing obesity, cardiovascular disease, weight
management, diabetes, cancer, asthma, and chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),” she said. “By
acting as a liaison between those at-risk populations and
community organizations that can help to improve their
health, Firelands is proactively collaborating with area
stakeholders to unite our community’s resources for the
sake of wellness.”
Angela is currently working with the Northwest Affiliate
of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to implement the Komen
SPICE (Support, Prevention, Intervention, Community
Education) project. The purpose of the SPICE project is to
reduce mortality from breast cancer in African American
residents of Erie County. Currently, African American
women are more likely to discover breast cancer in later
stages of the disease, making their outcomes worse than
other populations may experience. The program provides
the full continuum of care through providing educational
outreach, screening mammography, diagnostic testing,
treatment, follow-up and survivorship activities.
Angela is enthused at the future of the population health
initiative because she believes that each day a person is
well provides benefit not only to that individual, but also
to the community. A healthy population takes less sick
days, obtains more education, stays on the job more and
contributes to making our community stronger.
Angela commented, “There are so many ways to put
prevention measures in place that will increase well days
on the job for area employees, decrease the cost of
medical care, and increase the number of days healthy
children are in school receiving education. Our region
offers quality resources that have not been fully utilized to
optimize residents’ health.”
The 2008 Erie County Health Assessment demonstrated that
in cardiovascular disease alone, area residents experienced
a 26% mortality rate. Through working collaboratively with
area organizations to increase efforts to get adults and
children more active and educate people on good nutrition,
improved health will expand into the population.
“Everybody likes to feel good and be healthy,” says Angela.
“Having the ability to impact the wellness of our community
in a proactive manner is the opportunity of a lifetime.”

For A Comprehensive Team Approach
To Neck And Back Pain
Firelands Regional Medical Center Spine Center opened in
2011 and provides the area’s only team-based approach for
comprehensive spine care, all in one convenient location.
Staffed by physiatrists, neurosurgeons, physical medicine
physicians and physical therapists, the Spine Center Team
brings a patient-centered approach to treating back and
neck pain. Conceived in 2007 by Dr. Bo Hyun Yoo, a
Neurosurgeon with Erie Neurosurgery & Associates, Dr.
Yoo wanted to institute a multidisciplinary approach to
treatment for people who have neck and back pain.
Dr. Yoo shared his vision with the Medical Center’s
Administration, and the concept was enthusiastically
embraced. After years of strategic planning, working with
the Medical Center Administrative Team and the physicians
at Firelands Physician Group, Firelands Regional Medical
Center Spine Center concept was developed and The
Spine Center started seeing patients in May of 2011.
Recognizing that each patient’s physical challenges are
unique, the team of skillfully trained spine specialists
collaborates to develop a personalized treatment plan for
each individual, leveraging both state-of-the-art surgical
and non-surgical options. Providing neurosurgery services,
physical medicine services, electrodiagnostics and physical
therapy services, the multidisciplinary team at Firelands
Regional Medical Center Spine Center works together to
ensure each patient receives the best possible spine care.
The caliber of this service and the Spine Center is
exceptional. In fact, recently, Firelands Regional Medical
Center was recognized by HealthGrades as #1 in Ohio
for Spine Surgery. This ranking places Firelands Regional
Medical Center above ALL other hospitals in Ohio.

diagnosing breast cancer, Firelands Regional Medical
Center stands ahead of the curve with technology that
helps you achieve better health.
Every day physicians, healthcare staff and community
advocates strive to educate people about breast cancer
prevention and self-exams. According to the Susan G.
Komen Foundation, mammograms provide the best clinical
screening available for detecting breast cancer, but not
all breast cancer is the same. In 2011, Dr. Fred Itzkowitz,
on the medical staff at Firelands Regional Medical Center,
became the first physician in Ohio to utilize Radioactive
Seed Localization to assist in performing surgery on
breast lesions not detected by physical examination, but
found through mammogram screening. According to Dr.
Itzkowitz, surgeons would biopsy suspicious lesions after a
mammogram, using wires manually placed in the breast.
The wires would provide a visual pathway to follow to the
area in need of removal or biopsy. Yet, this system was
uncomfortable for patients and could be difficult to use for
the surgeon.
Now, Dr. Itkowitz and his team place a radioactive seed
the size of a small piece of mechanical pencil lead into
the area where the lesion is located. Even though the seed
has no more radioactive material in it than you would be
exposed to in your daily life, it has enough to be read by
a radioactively sensitive meter. This meter locates the seed
and allows Dr. Itzkowitz any number of pathways to the
area, making it easier and more comfortable for everyone.
“Using this system to find the lesion is less traumatic for the
patient, both mentally and physically, because you don’t
have a wire hanging out,” Itzkowitz said. “It also leads to
faster healing and less tissue destruction because I can
choose to incise in a more convenient location, closer to
the lesion, than the previous system allowed.”
Fredric Itzkowitz, DO recently received training
in radioactive seed localization for non palpable
breast lesions at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,
Minnesota. Dr. Itzkowitz and Firelands Regional
Medical Center are licensed by the Ohio
Department of Health Bureau of Radiation
Protection to use the seeds for localization.
When Dr. Itzkowitz first learned of this new surgical aid, he
was surprised to find out no other medical center in Ohio
had applied for approval of the technique. He and his staff
were charged with writing the protocol that would be used
by other institutions throughout the state.
In less than two years, the physicians and staff of
Northcoast Surgical Associates have utilized the seeds
on numerous patients (not just those with breast health
concerns) and have found that the method is well-received
by patients and produces better outcomes from surgery. In
the future, the team hopes to increase the scope of usage
for the radioactive seeds and integrate it as an essential
part of the advanced care provided to patients at Firelands
Regional Medical Center.

To Take Flight for a Good Cause
The Foundation for Firelands held its first “Hearts in Flight”
fundraiser on Saturday, February 11, 2012 in the Main
Hangar at Griffing Flying Services in Sandusky. This unique
black-tie event benefitted cardiac patients at the Firelands
Regional Medical Center Heart and Vascular Institute. The
proceeds from this event enabled the Medical Center to
purchase two new pieces of exercise equipment for the
Cardiac Rehab patients. Previously, individuals undergoing
cardiac rehabilitation only had access to two of these hightech machines, limiting the number of people who could
use the equipment and length of workout available for
each patient. Due to the popularity of the equipment and
the total body workout provided in a stable environment, it
became clear additional equipment would be beneficial
for the community.
“Patients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation have different
needs when it comes to exercise” explains Tina Ammanniti,
Area Director of Cardiac and Pulmonary Services. “The fact
that this piece of equipment works both the arms and legs
ultimately speeds up the recovery process.”
Cardiac rehabilitation is vital for all patients with cardiac

diseases. While in the program, patients acquire exercise
skills like proper breathing, stretching and other techniques
to build muscle and grow cardiac strength. Program
participants also learn how to make lifestyle changes,
which includes incorporating healthy foods into their diet
and exercising regularly.
What makes the cardiac rehab program at Firelands so
unique is the amazing support system that patients find
within the center. Patients undergoing cardiac rehab
encourage and inspire each other every day. During their
road to recovery, patients often build lasting bonds.
“We have some patients that have been here for 15 years,
just because of the friendships they have made,” Ammanniti
adds. “The community aspect is truly incredible.”
The Foundation for Firelands has also raised funds to
purchase a very important piece of equipment called
Lifenet for the Firelands Regional Medical Center Heart
and Vascular Institute and Emergency Department. In the
case of an emergency, the Lifenet system is able to transmit
information from the ambulance (EMS) to the Emergency
Room physician and the Firelands Heart and Vascular
Institute instantaneously, so the patient can be treated
immediately upon arrival to Firelands.
“Words cannot describe how thankful I am for the people
that support us. The donations have made an impact on
so many lives,” says Ammanniti. “Time is muscle in treating
heart attacks, and area residents can be grateful to donors
for supporting these causes.”
Tina Ammanniti, along with the entire cardiac services
staff, would like to thank the many generous donors to The

Time is Muscle:
When you are having a heart attack, every
second counts. That is why the team at
Firelands Regional Medical Center Heart and
Vascular Institute works hard to get you in
the door and into coronary intervention. The
American College of Cardiology’s standard of
a 90-minute “door to balloon” time (the time
between when a heart attack patient enters
the Emergency Room and when they are
treated). In fact, the care team at Firelands
Regional Medical Center performs better than
the standard, averaging a 65-minute door to
balloon time, because time really is muscle.

To Club Out Cancer
On June 25, 2012, 148 local golfers came to the
“Caddyshack” Open sponsored by KeyBank at
Plum Brook Country Club to participate in some
healthy competition and also support local
cancer patients. Hosted by The Foundation for
Firelands, this golf tournament was based off
of the comedy, “Caddyshack.” From cheesy 80’s
attire to “Caddyshack” impersonators, this golf
outing was both enjoyable and beneficial to a
local cause. The event raised $55,000 for the
Cancer Program fund of The Foundation for Firelands, which
helps cancer patients right here in the local community.
“What makes this unique golf outing so inspirational is
the overwhelming turnout of local people who sincerely
want to help local cancer patients,” said Alice Springer,
Director of Development. “The compassion starts with the
event committee under the leadership of Christine Mack,
Development Coordinator. This year’s event committee
included Tom Bollenbacher, Alex Cruey, Kathie Fischer, Robin
Grathwol, Megan Hanley, Peggy Hassinger, Stacy Imbrogno,
Ted Kastor, Diana Lundy, Rene Mihalic, Dan Moncher, Eric
Morgan, Dr. Amy Reese, J.J. Reese, Tom Smerillo and Craig
Stahl. This incredible committee secured sponsorships and
donated items from over 75 organizations and individuals,
fielded 148 golfers, and recruited 49 area high school
golfers to forecaddie for the event. It’s heart-warming that
so many people came out in support of the Cancer
Program Fund.”
The Cancer Program Fund is the most widely-used fund
at Firelands Regional Medical Center. It provides many
amenities to support cancer patients and their families,
such as stress relief therapies, medication assistance,
transportation, and educational programs.

Winners of different divisions of the event
included: David Springer, Brad Zura, Jody
Grimes, Tim Belden, Shannon Overmyer,
Greg Silloway, Mike Repass, and Paul
Drossman. Paul Koch and Beth Mathews won
the longest drive contests. One of the most
exciting moments was made by Craig Soule,
whose 165 yard shot landed within three feet
of the hole for a chance to win $100,000!
Golfing was not the only competition taking
place at the “Caddyshack” Open. Well-dressed participants
racked up various awards, such as: Most Authentic – Jack
Falfas; Craziest Pants for Women – Amy Reese, MD; Craziest
Pants for Men – Tod Phillips; Best Team Costume – Ted
Kastor, Dan Cobb, Derek Guerra and Rob Harst.
Along with the participants who golfed in the tournament,
a total of 46 sponsors, including Mathews Ford and Kasper
Auto Group, helped to make the event possible. Kasper
Auto Group held a Hole-in-One contest that provided hours
of fun for the crowd. In addition to the sponsors, caddies
from Huron, Sandusky, Margaretta, Sandusky Central
Catholic, Clyde, Edison, and Perkins High Schools provided
their services to golfers on the green. Huron golf coach,
Tom Bollenbacher, and Edison golf coach, Shayne Fischer,
offered to hit golfers’ tee shots on two holes in exchange
for a donation to The Foundation for Firelands Cancer
Program Fund.
“It is great to see these people having so much fun while
the proceeds are going to a great cause,” Springer said.

With Gifts of Time, Talent and Treasure
The Firelands Regional Medical Center Auxiliary has a
long and rich tradition of support and commitment to the
Medical Center and its patients with a focus on fundraising
initiatives.
The money raised by the Auxiliary is donated to Firelands
Regional Medical Center for the purchase of equipment,
educational support, hospital services, and other items as
deemed necessary for the hospital to provide the best
patient care possible.

In 2011 and 2012, The Firelands Auxiliary made
a gift of $91,859 to enable Firelands Regional
Medical Center to purchase the following essential
equipment:
• Vital sign monitor for the Cancer Center
• An ultrasound probe for prostate seed impants
for the Cancer Center
• New carpet, a conference table and chairs for
patients at the Dialysis Center
• Three recliners for in-room use at Inpatient
Rehabilitation
• New terrybloth robes for patients at the Women’s
Health and Wellness Center
• Televisions for the Infusion Area
• Two Geri-Chairs to increase patient mobility
• One bariatric MRI compatible wheelchair
• One automated coagulation timer
• One Radio Frequency Machine for Digestive
Health
• Ten televisions with hardware, software and
carts for Senior ER and Macular Degeneration
Patients
• AED Unit for Behavioral Health
• Urinalysis Analyzer and Plasma Thawer for the
Laboratory
• Electrical Stimulation/Ultrasound Combination
with cart for Inpatient Rehabilitation
• Instruments for Bicep Tendon Repair and Esophageal Dilators for the Route 4 Surgery
Center
The Auxiliary is comprised of dedicated women and
men promoting community awareness and interest in the
hospital. Membership in the Firelands Auxiliary is fun and
open to all adults. Members are from all walks of life and
each member determines how active they wish to be
and in what activities they wish to participate. They have
the opportunity to attend monthly meetings, events and
lectures, or take part in the Auxiliary fundraising programs
and events.

To Help Others
Marlene and Andy Benko have a lot to
smile about these days. They have spent
the past year with their growing family,
enjoying holidays and birthdays with their
three children and seven (soon to be eight)
grandchildren. You can see the joy in
Marlene’s face when she talks about family
cookouts, beach days and backyard parties,
but you can also see that something is
missing. In July 2011, Marlene and Andy
lost their granddaughter, Airica Mae Benko,
at just eight months old.
When Marlene talks about this little girl it is with a mix of sadness, love and
even, joy. Though Airica’s life was short, the Benko family wanted the joy she
brought to their lives to continue in other young lives. Marlene and Andy,
residents of Port Clinton, began the Airica Mae Benko Fund at Firelands Regional
Medical Center to help give local newborns a good start to life through the gift
of Newborn Starter Kits for families in need.
Just a few months after her passing, Airica’s aunts approached their parents with
an idea about how to keep the baby’s memory alive. They wanted to establish
funds in her name for babies and children at hospitals where they lived, and
they asked their parents to do the same.
“They said to us, ‘If Airica were here, we would be buying her birthday gifts and
Christmas gifts and Easter baskets, so instead let’s give that money to charity’,”
said Marlene Benko. “And we thought that was a wonderful idea.”
Initially, Airica’s parents, Andy and Angela, gave to the hospital in which Airica
was born, but Marlene and Andy decided to give to the hospital where their
children were born, what is now Firelands Regional Medical Center. The Benkos
wanted to do something that would help underprivileged newborns and would
be a tangible way of giving back to their community.
They decided to purchase products that could be used by new parents for their
babies in the days after they come home from the hospital. The kits include a
long-sleeved, zip-up sleeper, a receiving blanket, a bottle, baby wipes, diapers
and a can of formula all in a reusable and sturdy canvas bag and all in gender
neutral colors. The nurses in the OB Unit use their discretion to determine who is
in need of a bag from the Airica Mae Benko Fund and have utilized most of the
supplies given to them up to this point.
The Benkos continue to give because they want to remember their granddaughter
and they want to be a larger network of giving that has established family funds
in hospitals across Northern Ohio to honor little Airica.
Marlene wants other donors and the community to know, “This gift makes a
lasting legacy for our granddaughter. We can’t help her anymore, but we can
help others in our small way. We want mothers to know that someone cares
about them and their baby as they start life in our area.”

With Star-studded Support for Breast Cancer
Did you know that Joan Rivers, Kim Kardashian,
Gene Simmons, Ann Romney and Michelle
Obama made appearances in Sandusky
for a good cause this year? If you attended
The Foundation for Firelands Fashion Week,
Sandusky Style at Plum Brook Country Club,
you may have gone home thinking these
celebrities had made a stop in our area!
The Foundation for Firelands brought more
than 300 people together to raise more than
$127,000 in support of their Mammogram and
Breast Cancer Fund. The event, themed, “Struttin’
with the Stars” featured cocktails and appetizers,
live and silent auctions and a runway fashion
show with “celebrity” guest look-a-likes that kept
the crowd guessing all night long.
“We are just in awe of the generosity in our community,”
said Christine Mack, Development Coordinator.

Fund provides qualifying individuals with
mammography services, and cancer patients
with post-mastectomy camisoles, medication,
therapies and financial assistance, as needed.
“Erie County has one of the highest prevalence
of breast cancer in the state and we are
thrilled that so many people came together to
help local breast cancer patients,” said Alice
Springer, Director of Development.
The live auction, executed by local star Todd
Nelson, President and CEO of Kalahari®
Resorts, featured shopping trips in Chicago
and Los Angeles, dinners with top Cleveland
and Sandusky chefs, boat excursions and the
crowning jewel of the evening: coveted final
round badges to the Masters Tournament in Augusta,
Georgia for two and four people, respectively.
The runway show pumped high-energy music into the
crowd and star vignettes revealed “Kim Kardashian” in
fashion-forward, fitted attire, “Gene Simmons” in full KISS
concert gear complete with high-heeled, painted boots,
and the “First Lady” and her Republican counterpart
vying for the spotlight. Local celebrities taking to the
runway in support of the cause included Martin Tursky,
President and CEO of Firelands Regional Medical
Center, Dr. Lou Ralofsky, President and CEO of NOMS
Healthcare, Dr. Fredric Itzkowitz, Dr. Kari Ketvertis, Justin
Harris of Reminger Law, and others. Fashions featured
were provided by Belle Soiree, Erik’s Clothing for Men,
Sawmill Creek Shops and Tyler Street Boutique at Firelands
Regional Medical Center.

breast cancer?
The Foundation for Firelands, supporting Firelands Regional Medical Center, was
recently awarded a grant from the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen
for the Cure to implement the SPICE (Support, Prevention, Intervention, Care and
Education) program to help African-American women in Erie County receive free
mammograms, diagnostic screenings, treatment and survivorship support, based
on income and insurance status. The SPICE program will be in effect until April
30, 2013.
“Erie County has so much breast cancer compared to the rest of the state and,
with the help of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, we are excited to be part of the
effort to reduce and eliminate breast cancer in our area,” says Alice Springer,
Director of Development.
The Firelands Regional Medical Center Women’s Health and Wellness Center
and University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at Firelands Regional Medical
Center have begun sessions with local churches to educate women in the
African-American population about the importance of breast-self exams and
regular mammography visits. The grant provides this population with education
and access to the tools to detect and treat breast cancer from the earliest stages.
“Often, women are so busy taking care of others they don’t take the time to care
for themselves,” says Lori Kuns, Director of the Women’s Wellness Center. “This
Komen grant will give numerous at-risk women the tools they need to live longer,
healthier lives.”
Educational materials provided by the Northwest
Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure are
available at the Firelands Women’s Wellness Center
and at the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer
Center at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
