PARISH LENTEN MISSION
Will take place Sunday,
March
29th
through
Wednesday, April 1st. We are
happy to have Father John Murray CsSR of the
Redemptorist Order preaching our Mission. Please
mark your calendar and plan to be with us during Holy
Week as we spiritually prepare ourselves for days of
the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ.
HOLY ROSARY SUMMER CAMP
Our 19th Season is Right Around the Corner
REGISTRATION TODAY!
Camp starts on Monday, June 29th and ends on
Thursday, August 20th. Open to all children from
ages 3 to 13. If you re-Register before April 15, 2015
with our $50 registration fee, you will receive 5 % off
your bill. We also offer sibling discounts.
Pre-registration will be on Sunday, February 22nd
after the 10:00 am, 11:30 am and 12:45 pm Masses.
You can also pick up registration forms in our rectory.
EDUCATION INVESTMENT TAX CREDIT BILL
On Thursday, February 26th, at Monsignor Farrell High
School at 7:00 pm, there will be a rally and legislative forum
in support of the Education Investment Tax Credit, a bill
pending before the New York State legislature. The
program would drive up charitable donations for education,
including scholarships, by providing a tax credit to donors.
Not only does this benefit our families in need of tuition
assistance, but it helps public schools as well. The tax
credit will support teachers’ out of pocket expenses, fund
special classroom projects, bolster arts and athletics, and
make education more affordable. Since the funding applies
to both public and private schools, it is a true win-win in
every sense. You are urged to contact the governor and
your state representatives in support of the Education
Investment Tax Credit and to come make your voice heard
on February 26th at Monsignor Farrell High School.
FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
LENTEN GUIDELINES
During the Season of Lent, our Church recommends
that all the Faithful reflect a spirit in penance in their
daily life through performing acts of fast and
abstinence.
FASTING requires that only one full meal be taken
per day. Two other smaller meals may be taken
during the day to maintain physical strength, but
these two meals together should not equal a full
meal in quantity. Fasting obliges all those who have
reached the age of 18 and continues to oblige until
age 59. Those not specifically obliged to fast are
encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to the
extent that they are able.
ABSTINENCE prohibits individuals from eating
meat. Abstinence obliges all those who have
reached the age of 14 and above. Children and
adolescents should be encouraged to join in this
discipline to the extent that they are able.
ASH WEDNESDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY
Are days of fast and abstinence.
FRIDAYS in Lent are days of abstinence.
EASTER FLOWERS
Parishioners on our envelope system will
find an envelope for Easter Flower
donations in the packet of March
envelopes already mailed to you. Extra
envelopes are available in the Narthex.
Please fill in the name of the person you
want to be memorialized so that all intentions may
be printed on our Scroll.
REGISTRATION FOR HOLY ROSARY SCHOOL
Holy Rosary School is a Universal Pre K (UPK) to
8th grade school of the Catholic Schools Region of
Staten Island. Registration is open for Kindergarten
thru 7th grades. UPK registration opens in March.
We are pre-registering children who will be 4 years
of age by December 31, 2015. Please call the
school office at 718-447-1195 to tour the school and
for more information.
Our Food Pantry is very much in need of
powdered milk in small packets. Also needed is
peanut butter, jelly, tuna fish, hearty soups in cans,
rice, boxes of instant mashed potatoes, canned
potatoes, macaroni & cheese, pasta & pasta sauces
in jars and cereal. Please leave them in the
Hospitality Room in Church or drop them off at the
Rectory during Office Hours.
As stewards and Disciples of Christ, we recognize that
all the goods and riches in our life are gifts from God.
Strengthened by the Eucharist, we respond to God’s
generosity in our lives with gratitude by using and
sharing our gifts in service of others. Please share
your blessings and make a gift to the 2015 Cardinal’s
Appeal.
The goal for our Parish is $79,000. As of February 13,
2015 we have received $18,136 in pledges from 63
gifts. This is 22% of our goal.
You can make your gift on line at:
www.cardinalsappeal.org
May God bless you for your generosity.
