Combine that with one easy-to-use, province-wide catalogue of all public libraries in Saskatchewan and boredom can easily be a thing of the past — all you need is a free library card! You can get a library card at any SPL location or any public library in Saskatchewan. Many of SPL’s programs are drop-in, but some require registration. Here’s what you need to know when registering for a program. What if I need more time? With your library card handy, you can renew most items twice: • in person • by phone at 1.855.980.SILS (7457)* or by phoning any location •online through My Account at saskatoonlibrary.ca Loan Periods & Limits All you need is an email address! Most books / CDs How do I register for a program? Adult DVDs 21 days 7 days | 20 items (including Special Loan DVDs & videos) Magazines7 days (can be renewed once, non-requestable) Hot Titles / video games 7 days | 5 items *You will need the barcode number(s) for your materials handy. (non-renewable, non-requestable) A few important points about renewals: Automatic shortened loan period 14 days • if an item has been requested by someone else, it cannot be renewed •overdue items can still be renewed and this will stop further late charges • items cannot be renewed if you have more than $10 owing in late charges • to renew a Special Loan DVD or video, call 306.975.7580 Where do I return material? You can return material to any public library in Saskatchewan. Special Loan DVDs and videos must be returned to Fine Arts at Frances Morrison Central Library. What if my public library doesn’t have the material I want, but another one does? You can request most materials to be delivered to your preferred public library location from one easy-to-use, province-wide catalogue. Please remember to check your due dates carefully as loan periods vary on different items. What do I need to register for a program online? (titles exceeding 5 holds) Downloads Loan periods and limits vary on downloadable material. Because it automatically returns, you will never be charged late fees. You can borrow up to 100 items on your card at one time. Late Charges Children’s material $0 / day Teen material 20¢ / day Adult material 30¢ / day (excluding adult DVDs) Downloadable books $0 / day Adult DVDs $1 / day Video games $1 / day Special Loan DVDs & videos $5 / day You can borrow material with your free library card. If, however, you owe more than $10, you will be unable to borrow until you reduce the outstanding amount to $10 or less. You are responsible for lost or damaged items. You can register: • in person, no email required • by phone •online* — have your email handy *Registration times follow library operating hours. For a list of locations and hours, see page 45. What if a program is already full? If a program is full, you may be put on a waiting list. If a space opens up and you’ve provided an email address at the time of registration, you will receive a notice that you’ve been transferred to the registered list. If you’ve not provided an email address, library staff will make every reasonable attempt to notify you by phone. Can I register multiple people for programs? You can register others for a program as long as you provide their names at the time of registration. What’s the benefit of providing my email address when registering? When you provide an email address at the time of registration you’ll receive email notices about your registered program, such as: •a registration confirmation (any programs you have registered for will also show up in My SPL) •a reminder that your program is coming up in a few days •a notification that the program you are registered for has been cancelled or changed What happens if my registered program is cancelled? All library programs are subject to change without notice. Don’t say Bread say McGavin’s! For decades, the iconic McGavin’s sign atop its 2nd Avenue building (now home of Earl’s) proclaimed that bread was synonymous with McGavin’s. The bakery produced many other goodies, too, such as the cakes seen in this display. Want a slice? We’ll share stories, songs and a movie about clouds. What’s even more special is that everyone will adopt their very own pet cloud! Stories, songs, finger plays and rhymes round out this program for preschoolers, their families and friends. Each week is a new adventure!
