Avenue doors opened in 1880, the Newport
Casino was the premier location for social
events for Newport’s rich and famous residents.
In 1987, the facility was named a National
Historic Landmark in recognition of its social
and sporting history and for its extraordinary
architecture. Today, the site retains the
incomparable charm and beauty that made it
so popular at the turn of the century, while
offering an extraordinary venue for sponsors
to host memorable events.
Championships, the intimate setting and beautiful grass courts make
the venue an outstanding facility to catch all the action of pro tennis.
More to See & Do Off the courts, special events including
pro-ams, tennis clinics, concerts, and more, add to the
excitement of tournament week and Enshrinement Weekend.
A Rich History In 1881, the world’s
best tennis players gathered in Newport for
the very first U.S. National Lawn Tennis
Championships. The tournament was
played in Newport until 1914, eventually
moving to New York and evolving to the
event we now know as the US Open. Today,
the coveted US Open trophies are displayed
in the Museum at the Hall of Fame for fans
to see year-round, with the exception of the
weeks they are utilized in New York.
