September | 2015
From The Post Commander:
August 2015!
Very sad,
glad, proud,
busy. We can
describe this
month with
all these euphemisms
and more.
Mike Huddleston, Mary Lou Venrick, Loraine
Doubek all gone. It is so hard for me
to wrap my mind around all that
these three have done for 9644 and
how long they did it for. I can say
this…they are all where they want to
be. God bless them and their families. But, I am glad August is over. I
am proud of our Post. We hosted in
conjunction with United Veterans
Committee of Colorado (UVC),
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert
McDonald and GOP candidate for
President Jeb Bush. No matter your
thoughts on either VFW 9644
showed very well. Thank you to all
who assisted with these events and
Verle Huffman
who attended. Busy, describes all of
the above plus a “THANK YOU”
party for all who assisted with the
convention and a float in the Western Welcome Week in Littleton. We
had a mixture of young new members who drug along some of their
friends and seasoned members from
the “Auxiliary” and Post who built
and rode in the float. Thank You to
all of you.
years would you all please support
your Post and attend as many of
these functions as you can. All who
bust their butt to make excellent
meals would really appreciate it.
We will be hosting a Labor Day
picnic on the 7th. Please plan on
being there and bring a side dish.
God Bless you and please remember our troops.
OK, on to September. We are beginning our meals with hamburgers Sincerely,
and bingo on the 8th. Thanks to the
Ron Davies
ladies of the Auxiliary they have
taken over the burgers from the Post Post Commander
this year along with the Men’s Auxiliary every other Tuesday through
the month of May. The Friday night
dinners and Sunday breakfasts follow every week. The meals have
been down in attendance for several
Post 9644
From the Ladies Auxiliary President:
What a month it has been. We have lost some wonderful people from our Post and the Aux
who will be greatly missed. We never know if tomorrow will be ours, so let us always say
what is in our heart and share that love with each other. Each of you as members of the Post
and the Aux are my brothers and sisters. I am so thankful for all of you, the examples you set
for me and the love you give me despite my faults. I feel so very blessed by each of you.
Thank you.
There is now a box in the foyer at the post for clothing collections for the VA hospital clothing
room. The only items that need to be new are undergarments and socks. We are looking for
any and all clothing that others can use. With winter coming warm clothing is needed. Please
go through your closets. Clothing for both men and women are needed.
Thanks to each of you for all you do to help make Post 9644 the best. We are Ohana and Ohana means family. Family means no one left behind or forgotten. Reach out to those who may be struggling. Let them know they are not
alone. Thanks to each of you for being my Ohana, my family.
Sincerely,
Concetta Kile
Ladies Auxiliary President
From the Post Chaplain:
Thanks for my birthday celebration-in six more years I will be 95. Jackie Newlander was also celebrating. It
will be 25 years more before she reaches 95!
September has many historical dates to reflect on. VJ was declared 70 years ago! What a jubilant time
that was. September 11 was such a shock to our nation, that it has changed many things forever. Do we
still even remember or give the proper respect to September 18-which has been dedicated as POW/MIA
Recognition Day? On the 27th we honor the Gold Star Mothers-who gave the ultimate gift to our nation.
Take a moment - remember & give thanks to our veterans.
Your Chaplains have been overloaded with deaths and illness. Memorial Services were held for Past
Cmdr. Mike Huddleston. Commander Ron Davies and Chaplain Doug Mayotte rendered the Military Honors and our Post Honor Guard did the gun salute and taps. He was a WW2 Navy radar man and worked
with pilots doing landings at night and in poor weather conditions. He worked very hard for this Post. He published the monthly
newsletter, led the Honor Guard for years and was Commander for two years. Comrades Harry Mayers and Jose Pacheco also
departed our ranks.
We are happy to report Terry Goad and John Vaglienti are up and about with us. Keep your prayers for Past Cmdr. Louie, as he
goes through chemo. Prayers for strength and healing for Don Troxell. Please take a moment and reach out to our homebound
with a phone call now and then. Haven't seen someone for a while? Call and ask if all is o.k. A friendly voice or thought can do a
lot. We all want someone to care.
Lord, watch over and bless all our service personnel deployed around the world, those in hospitals, the PTSD patients, our
homebound members and those grieving.
YOUR LIFE IS MADE OF TWO DATES AND A DASH. MAKE THE MOST OF THE DASH.

From the Post Sr. Vice Commander:
Hello All
The C.O.A. was a success, lots of information, laughs, and fun. It was a good time. Sheridan Days Parade will be coming up on 9/26. Let’s do all we can to make this great as always.
The Western Welcome Week was a great success. Thanks to all who made it possible! The float was
great! Again, thank you all. Soon we will be having Burgers and Bingo, Friday night Dinner, and Sunday
Breakfasts. VOLUNTEERS WILL BE NEEDED! Let’s all try to make time for these events. It will be much
easier than asking the same people to do it all the time.
Paul LeVeque
Post Sr. Vice Commander
From the Ladies Auxiliary Treasurer: We
would like to thank all annual members
who have already paid and encourage
everyone to try to get your due's payments in no later than November 30,
2015. We inadvertently missed putting
the amount of the annual dues in our
letter and apologize for that. The dues
amount is $25.00. Thank You. Debbie

From the Home Board President:
CONGRATULATIONS VFW 9644!!
Verle uffman VFW Post 9644 is the only Post in Colorado to achieve ALL AMERICAN POST
status. Past Commander Louis and Past Quartermaster Don are All American Post Team Members. They get to wear the "hat" and have the individual honors but, it took every one in the Post
to make this happen. Our Post members provided important services to veterans, their families
and our communities Last year we supported and completed every Department of Colorado
Community Service program which made us eligible for designation as an All American Post.
But we can't rest on our laurels. We have a new year and with it, both old and new challenges.
I'm proud to be member of this post and you should be also. Our heritage has proven that there was no greater group of
men and women in the Department of Colorado VFW organization. Our Post is once again the best. Let's work together and do it again in this 2015-2016 year.
Warren "Chief" Tellgren, PDC
Home board President
From the Men’s Aux. President:
A new year is coming at us in a hurry!
We will be starting Tuesday Burgers and Friday Night Dinners soon and will need lots of help. Tuesday Burgers are our primary
fundraising activity so we always need lots of help. We need at least 2 crews so nobody is being overworked. Please find it in your
heart to help out.
Your dues are due now. Please get your dues in as soon as possible. You can leave them at the Post Attn: Carl or send them to:

Many of you have questions about how the changes to the Ladies Auxiliary affect us. The short answer is that at this time, there are
no changes to the Men’s Auxiliary. At the time of this writing, there is no list of the complete changes to the Ladies but that list of
changes should be available by the time you get this newsletter. Come to the meeting September 2nd and I will have them for you.
We have a good group of officers this year but we need your support. Please come to the meetings. We need your input. Feel
free to call me but if I can’t answer, please leave a message. I will call you back as soon as I can.
Kevin Proctor, President 720-732-7417
