ONLINE REPORT Top New Products Win NCSA Awards TAMPA, FL — More than 200 industry guests were on hand in Tampa, FL, where six companies collected crystal trophies for winning New Product of the Year awards from the National Confectionery Sales Association. During the year, buyers, brokers and others in the confectionery and snack industries cast their nominations for best new products of the year. Wonka Exceptionals Chocolate Bars CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 Winners were announced during the Candy Hall of Fame induction ceremony held at the Renaissance Tampa Hotel International Plaza October 23, and the products were highlighted in an a/v program at the black-tie event. Representatives from the companies were on hand to collect the trophies and accept certificates of achievement. PREMIUM CERTIFICATE WINNERS Morris National Inc. Nutffles Winners By Category In the seasonal category, Just Born, Inc. took the prize for its milk and dark chocolate covered Peeps, and there to accept the award was CEO Ross Born. Also on hand were Brent Cotten from The Hershey Co., and Dave Abramson from R.M. Palmer Co. who collected certificates of achievement. Cadbury North America won the crystal trophy in the non-chocolate category for its Trident Layers. Dave Fleischer, director of trade for the company, accepted the award. Accepting certificates of achievement were Lou Alaimo from Yummy Earth, Inc., Sarah Stout from Muller Sports Medicine, Inc., Brent Cotten from The Hershey Co., and Salvatore Ferrara II from Ferrara Pan Candy Co., Inc. The Madelaine Chocolate Co. took top honors for its Duets in the premium/gourmet category. Accepting the award was company President and CEO Jorge Farber. There to accept certificates of achievement in premium were Rich Clemmensen from Morris National, Inc., John Leipold Jr. from Goetze’s Candy Co., Inc., Greg Rosendahl from Goetze’s Candy Co., Inc. Tim Quinn, vice-president of trade development for Mars Chocolate North America, accepted the award when the company’s Pretzel M&M’s were announced as the winner in the chocolate category. DeDe Cole-Adetutu accepted the certificate of achievement for Nestlé USA, Inc., Gary Parker was there to accept the certificate on behalf of Storck USA, L.P., and Brent Cotten accepted for The Hershey Co. Beth Forman, of Euro-American Brands, LLC, was there to collect the crystal trophy in the Licensed/Limited Edition category. Also on hand were Garry Popkin from Koko’s Confectionery & Novelty, Barry Sokol from Sorbee International, LLC, and Joe Vittoria from PEZ Candy, Inc., USA to accept certificates of achievement in Licensed/Limited. Taking home the top honor in the snack category was Shearer’s Food’s Inc.’s Riceworks. Bob Hammer, regional business manager, accepted the award. In 2011, a call for annual entries will be made in the trade press and on the NCSA’s web site, candyhalloffame.org, in the spring.
