Our new entrance will be visible and grand. The main lobby will have a PTSA welcome desk where volunteers guide visitors to their destination. Also front and center are our resource officers, the attendance office and the front office, which add to the security of our students and staff.
Chattahoochee has lead the way for all of the surrounding high schools. We are glad the school will now
shine as brightly aesthetically as it does academically.

It is official and we are very excited …. The Fulton County Board has voted at their
March 20th meeting and approved the renovations for Chattahoochee High School. The
scope of work will begin this May and is scheduled to be completed by July 2015.
Congratulations to Jennie Blevins, Jan Jensen and the very talented actors who performed in this year’s production of “Grease” to packed audiences. We are still receiving
rave reviews and what a treat it was when our very own Mr. Corrigan surprised the
crowd with his rendition of Beauty School Dropout.
Congratulations to the Chattahoochee Academic Team for winning the 6A State Championship on Saturday, March 22nd, 2014. The team, comprised of seniors Julia Tallant and James Tang, juniors Nirav
Ilango, Sahrudh Dharanendra, and Amith Punyala, and sophomore Aditya Duddikunta, won the title
by defeating Brookwood, Alpharetta, and Collins Hill in the playoffs. This is the 4th State Championship
in the past seven years for the CHS Academic Team.
I’m filled with “Hooch Pride” as we recently celebrated 74 students who were inducted into the
National Honor Society, a most prestigious organization bringing the total number of NHS members
to 153. Thanks go out to Michael Bennett and his committee for overseeing this year’s NHS Induction
Ceremony.
As always, April will be a busy month at Chattahoochee. Prom will take place at The Tabernacle on Saturday, April 26th and Honors Night will be held on Tuesday, April 22nd. Of course, everyone is looking
forward to Spring Break which is April 7th through 11th this year.
SPRING will be a busy time for testing with End Of Course Tests starting on April 28th. AP Tests
begin on May 5th and will run through May 16th. Final Exams are scheduled for May 21st – 23rd. I
must urge all parents to be cautious when scheduling your vacations. Check your student’s exam schedule
and plan accordingly. The school cannot be very flexible with exams and a zero on a final could be disastrous to your child. During the springtime, the students will need your motivation more than ever to help
them stay focused as the school year comes to an end.
Before we know it, Graduation will be here for the Class of 2014. Graduation will be held at Mt. Pisgah
United Methodist Church again this year and will take place on Saturday, May 24th at 10:00 a.m. Be
sure to check the “Senior Graduation Information” link on the website at www.chattcougar.com for all
the latest news and info regarding this year’s graduation, as well as all upcoming concerts, events and
complete sport schedules.
Once again, I thank you for all your continued support. As we continue to build upon our Tradition of Excellence, let’s remember that by working together the possibilities are endless.
Sincerely,
Tim C. Duncan

Chattahoochee PTSA Update….
Joyce Foster
With only two months left in the school year we
are reminded of the many choices that will be
made before the school year ends. Our seniors
will need to make decisions about which college to
attend or if college is in their immediate future.
Our juniors will have to start thinking about college visits and the application process. We encourage all students to take advantage of the many resources
that are available to them in the College & Career Center and in the Counseling Office that can help guide
their decisions. In the coming weeks several seminars and activities have been scheduled for these
groups. Please encourage your student to take full advantage of each opportunity.
The CHS PTSA will need a lot of volunteer support for all of the activities that have been planned for the
remainder of the year. Volunteer solicitations will be posted on the PTSA website and Facebook fanpage.
Take a look at the list of activities that are planned and consider how you can help:
Springfest- this year the PTSA is partnering with Mr. Duncan to provide carnival rides and games at
Springfest- April 17th.
CHS Honors Night- this PTSA sponsored event recognizes student academic achievement and will be
followed by a reception- April 22nd.
A/P Test Proctoring- a large number of volunteers will be needed to proctor A/P exams. Last year there
were a record number of test administered.
Book Returns- volunteers will be needed to help process returned books during the last weeks of school.
Have a wonderful spring break! Thank you for your continued support of the PTSA, Mr. Duncan, and his
staff as we strive to continue the Tradition of Excellence at the Hooch!

High School Seniors Learning Spanish Help Fill LAA Food Pantry
Some 25 students from Chattahoochee High School
in Johns Creek donated food and other essential products recently to help restock the LAA food pantry as
part of a school project.
The students, seniors taking AP Spanish and members of the group Latinos Moving Forward, went to
the supermarket with their own money and bought
rice, beans, pasta, Maseca tortilla mix, chocolate, oil
and baby wipes to help
out LAA families in
need. The students
raised about $200, said
Chattahoochee High
School staffer Elizabeth
Lopez-Smith, who coordinated the donation.
In addition to donating the food, the students wrote
letters in Spanish to the LAA and the families it
serves.
"Your organization gave our class the opportunity not
only to be grateful for what we have, but also to give
to those who do not have as much as we have," read
one of the letters. "I am very grateful to your organization because this opportunity has made me a better
person."
Another student wrote:
"Thanks a million for
the opportunity to help
people who are not as
fortunate as the majority
of the population."
"The students were
happy and excited about
the idea of helping others," said Lopez-Smith.
"We would like to do
this again."
And yet another student
wrote: "We enjoyed going to the store and getting some of our favorite products for other
families. The Latin

Sun Safety
The PTA wants to remind Chattahoochee to use SUN Sense during Spring Break!
On Wednesday, April 2nd the PTA will be raffling off one iPod Shuffle in the cafeteria every lunch period
to remind students:
THE SUN IS NOT YOUR FRIEND
It takes only ONE severe sunburn during adolescence to more than doubles a person's chances of developing
melanoma. Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, kills one person every hour and is the second most
common form of cancer for those 15-29 years old.
Remember to Slip Slap Slop during the break.
Slip! on a shirt
Slap! on a hat and sunglasses
Slop! on sunscreen
There’s nothing healthy about that healthy glow.
Stop by the cafeteria Wednesday, the 2nd. Win a shuffle and listen to tunes while you apply your sunscreen
on vacation!

“Clinically” Speaking
“It’s that time of the year...”
Down here in the South, the trees start casting off
that yellow dust as early as February for Round One.
Then you are hit with Round Two as the shrubs begin their assault. As they start to bloom and pollen
gets airborne, so begin the sniffling and sneezing of
the seasonal allergy sufferers as these tiny grains
have reached their noses, eyes,
lungs and skin causing the release of histamines. Histamines are what trigger the
symptoms of allergies. These
include the runny nose, sneezing and coughing, watery and
itchy eyes, nasal congestion,
itchy throat, post nasal drip,
and dark circles under the
eyes. Pollen allergies can also
cause asthma to worsen and
lead to sinus and ear infections. Allergy symptoms may be prevalent on
breezy days when the wind is carrying pollen
through the air. If your student has not been diagnosed with allergies before but is exhibiting these
symptoms, you may want to take him to the doctor
for evaluation.
The following are tips to surviving allergy season by
trying to avoid pollen exposure:
* Keep windows and outside doors closed
Chattahoochee High School
Francis Hill-Portwood (Ms. H-P)
* Remove your clothing when you come indoors
and shower and wash your hair;
* Keep pets that spend time outdoors out of your
bedroom.
If limiting pollen exposure is not doing the trick,
there are OTC medications that your doctor may recommend. Antihistamines,
topical nose sprays, and eye
drops can effectively manage allergy symptoms. Although decongestants may
be used, they are designed
for colds and should not be
used for more than a week;
hay fever can last for weeks.
The doctor may prescribe
medications if OTC medications are not effective. Students at Chattahoochee are allowed to carry OTC
oral antihistamines without an authorization form.
However, certain other OTC medications and all prescription medications must be stored in the school
clinic along with a completed authorization form.
As some of these medications may make a person
drowsy, be wary of allowing your teenager to drive
while taking them.
Oh, and then Round Three may take a wallop at you
during summer when the grass makes you wishing
for that cold white stuff. Nah – enough of winter!
* Avoid using window and attic fans
* Keep your car windows rolled up and set the ventilation to recirculate
* Wear sunglasses when outside
“The worst was the tiniest pollen you couldn’t see
but managed to infiltrate your brain like some Nature
terrorist, smother your entire body and color your car
and your life entirely yellow.” ~Denny Lyon
