2010-2011 - Goodwill Southern Indiana
Our Mission Serving children, adults and our community through the power of donated goods. Our Vision Leading the community in providing early childhood development, family support and adult career achievement through program collaborations and successful Goodwill stores. Dear Friends, When you hear the word “Goodwill”, what comes to mind? Perhaps stores or maybe a place to donate? Of course, both are correct. However, Goodwill BridgePointe Services is about so much more. The donations and stores make the magic happen, but it is the services that are the foundation of our organization. When you donate, Goodwill BridgePointe sells those items and generated revenue funds vital services for people with disabilities and disadvantages. Your donations and purchases help locate employment for our adult clients enabling them to support their families. Your support provides child care for children with special medical needs preparing them for success in school. Your generosity ensures that children with disabilities receive therapies that allow them to gain independence. You also help us provide vouchers to families in crisis situations such as fires, floods and other devastating circumstances. These vouchers allow the families to obtain necessities free of charge at our Goodwill stores. This past year, you made it possible for Goodwill BridgePointe to serve more than 5000 children and adults with disabilities and disadvantages. Goodwill BridgePointe is about our community donating, shopping and changing lives. When you hear the word “Goodwill” we want you to think of donation centers, stores and that your support is helping people throughout Southern Indiana achieve independence and success. Goodwill BridgePointe stores recycled over 1,000,000 pounds of computer equipment since beginning a partnership with Dell Reconnect in June 2009. A free drop-off program allows donors to responsibly recycle any brand of unwanted computer equipment, to do so at 198 locations throughout the state of Indiana, including 11 Goodwill BridgePointe stores in Southern Indiana. The Dell Reconnect recycling program offers consumers a free, convenient and responsible way to recycle used computer equipment. Consumers can drop off any brand of used equipment at participating Goodwill BridgePointe donation centers in their area. Accepted items also include printers, fax machines, scanners, monitors, peripherals and other computer equipment parts. Revenue from the recycling program allows Goodwill BridgePointe to provide services to children and adults with disabilities in nine counties in Southern Indiana. Brian James Pierce In high school, Brian was enrolled in special education courses and also attended Culinary Arts Classes at Prosser. When Brian turned 18, he had nothing to do and no means of transportation. Brian’s mother thought it was the best path to reach out to an agency such as Goodwill BridgePointe Services that could provide assistance to someone in Brian’s position. Brian enrolled in the Employment Services program at Goodwill BridgePointe. Brian has always aspired to be a famous culinary chef. With this being Brian’s goal, the Case Managers at Goodwill BridgePointe Services found Brian a job at a local restaurant. Brian says his life has improved a lot more because before having a job, he had no confidence. Brian hopes to move out and travel somewhere with one of his friends once he gets his driver’s license. Brian credits Goodwill BridgePointe Services with being his advocate. Brian feels he would still be looking for a job and alone in the world if it weren’t for the services he received. Brian’s mother agrees and can see a change in his confidence level. Brian has become more helpful at home since beginning his job. She feels that the services Brian received from Goodwill BridgePointe, along with his current job, helped put him where he needs to be for the future. Brian’s message is “Learn from your heart-if you dream being who you want to be, don’t stop believing in your dreams. Go for it, live your life and have fun doing it! Dreams can become reality!” A Note From A Parent... I wanted to let you know what a wonderful childcare staff that you have. There are many reasons that make your staff GREAT at what they do. You can tell that they do this job for the true love of it. It is amazing how much my daughter has learned in the short time that she has been here. She talks about how much she “Loves her school, her friends, and her friend teachers”. I know every parent is picky about who watches their child. However, I’ve had previous sitters tell me that I’m very picky. I take that as a compliment though! I can say without a doubt that this is one of the most wonderful programs. To the CLC staff: You have something to be very proud of! Vouchers By County (2010-2011) Last year, Goodwill Bridgepointe Services provided $79,890 in clothing vouchers to the partner agencies listed below. Clothing vouchers are given to families or individuals in crisis situations and are used in Goodwill Stores to purchase clothing. Through these partnerships, Goodwill Bridgepointe helps thousands of people throughout Southern Indiana. My son attends... your childcare center and I just wanted to send you a quick message letting you know how pleased I am with the services I have received so far. The teachers have treated my son SO great I just had to let you know. They all have gone above and beyond my expectations and I greatly appreciate it. My son just moved up to the 3 year old class and they all made it so easy for him and us. Thanks for all you have done for us thus far. When I drop my children off... at The Children’s Learning Center, I know that they are in a safe and nurturing environment… you can’t put a price on that. My kids love coming to school everyday, and that is directly related to the wonderful teachers in the CLC. If every child in our community were to attend the CLC before they started kindergarten, we would see a major jump in student achievement in the school systems. It is always a good sign when my child doesn’t want to leave the CLC at the end of the day. I will recommend the CLC to any family looking for quality childcare… even after my children have graduated onto kindergarten. Thomas Wagner Like so many other people in today’s economy, Thomas was laid-off after working at the same company for fourteen years. Through a family friend, he heard about the Employment Services program at Goodwill Bridgepointe Services. Thomas enrolled in the program to receive job placement services. Case managers at Goodwill BridgePointe assisted Thomas with creating a resume and seeking employment. Thomas is once again back at work and re-established in the workforce for a large employer. Thomas credits his great experience with Goodwill in being able to find and maintain employment. “I love going to work and going home knowing I have accomplished a lot. I have gained professional independence by being able to work for an organization that trusts their employees and allows opportunity for growth and advancement. If not for Goodwill, I would not have the confidence I have now and most importantly, a job. I no longer feel the pressure of having to find a job and a way to provide for my wife and me.” What’s next? “I am hoping to retire from my job because they are such a great company! My wife and I will be taking a vacation this year!” A new CLC family ... had enrolled their daughter in three other childcare facilities before coming to the CLC. They felt they were not receiving the safe and dependable care they expected from a childcare facility. They heard about the CLC through a parent of a current child who is enrolled. When their daughter began at the CLC, the parents immediately felt she was in a safe and nurturing environment. Mom laughed stating that “Our daughter has been a completely different child in a good way since starting here at the CLC”. She says that her daughter seems much less nervous and anxious than when she attended previous childcare facilities and that behavior at home has improved since attending the CLC. “We are just frustrated that we didn’t originally start her here. For the first time, we feel comfortable with leaving our daughter at the CLC and feel that the communication has been amazing. We feel extremely well informed as to what is going on with our daughter on a daily basis here at the CLC. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that I can drop my kids off at the CLC and know that they are not only safe, but also getting a great education.” Our Donors The following corporate partners and individuals supported our mission by making a gift to Goodwill BridgePointe Services.
