Meal Ministry
Sacrament of Baptism
Baptism Masses: first Saturday 5:30pm Mass, first Sunday
8:00am Mass, second Sunday 10:00am Mass, third Sunday
12:0pm Mass. After Mass; last Saturday 6:30pm, and last
Sunday 1:00pm.
Parents having their first child are asked to attend the
Baptism Preparation Class which is held the second
Saturday of every other month at 10am in the St. Francis
Room beginning in February. Parents are required to be
registered parishioners.
Praying the Rosary
We pray the rosary as a community after every noon Mass
for the respect of all human life, 5pm before 5:30pm
Saturday Mass, 7:30am before 8am Sunday Mass, 1st
Friday 6:30pm in front of Church near the pro-life garden.
Eucharistic Adoration
We celebrate Eucharistic Adoration every first Friday of the
month after daily Mass. Eucharistic Adoration is celebrated
before the 6pm Mass on Tuesday.
Sacrament of Marriage
Contact the priest 6 months in advance and be a
registered parishioner.
Holy Orders
Those considering entering the Priesthood or Religious
Life may contact our Pastor, Pastoral Associate or the
Archdiocesan Vocation Office, 236-1490.

Meditation: How can death lead to life and defeat to
glory? Jesus described his approaching death on the
cross as his “hour of glory” (John 12:23) when he would
be “lifted up from the earth” and would “draw all men to
himself” (John 12:32). Jesus saw his death on the cross
as triumph over the powers of sin and darkness. Jesus
drew an illustration of the “grain of wheat” to show how
this principle works in God’s kingdom. Seeds cannot
produce new life by themselves. They must first be
planted in the earth before they can grow and produce
fruit. What is the spiritual analogy which Jesus alludes
to? Is this simply a veiled reference to his own impending death on the cross and resurrection? Or does Jesus
have another kind of "death and rebirth" in mind for his
disciples? Jesus, no doubt, had both meanings in mind.
Jesus’ obedience and death on the cross obtain for us
freedom and new life in the Holy Spirit. His cross frees us
from the tyranny of sin and death and shows us the way

As we near the end of Lent, please consider a<ending the following events:
This Friday, March 27th, the K of C will prepare dinner from 5pm-7pm. They’ll have fish, soup, cheese pizza and
many other wonderful dishes. But the food is not all--the fellowship that our parishioners share is energizing!
A>er dinner Friday, head over to church. We’ll be presen6ng the Sta6ons of the Cross from different viewpoints. March 27th, we’ll see the sta6ons of the cross OUTSIDE!
March 22nd, and March 29th, Fr. Tim leads a 3-part series en6tled, “Climbing the Mountain Through the Seven
Deadly Sins” following 5pm Benedic6on in Church.
St. Malachy Spirit of Service Dinner
Our first annual dinner to celebrate and acknowledge the many services our parishioners provide our parish will
be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 in the school gym a>er the 5:30 PM Mass. All parishioners are invited to
aEend. More details will be forthcoming as the date approaches.
So why announce it now, because we need your help. All of us working together provide the hands to do God’s
work through our various ministries and ac6vi6es, but a few parishioners’ efforts stand out for their significant
contribu6on and dedica6on. We need you to iden6fy those individuals whose contribu6on of 6me and talent
make St. Malachy a great parish. We would like to recognize those individuals at our parish dinner and collec6vely say “thank you” for all you do.
For now, start thinking about who you might recommend and why. Most o>en you will not
find them in the spotlight, that’s not why they serve, but that is why we need your help. We

March 22, FiHh Sunday of Lent Third Scru@ny at the Noon Mass—the ELECT (those
chosen by God to be bap6zed at the Easter Vigil) and sponsors will be called forward for the
Community to pray for and with them. The scru6nies, celebrated the third, fourth an fi>h
Sundays of Lent are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defec6ve, or sinful in the
hearts of the elect; and to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good.
Individually, each of us is called to transforma6on for growing deeper in our rela6onships with
Jesus. A>er the intercessions for the ELECT, the CANDIDATES (those bap6zed in another
Chris6an denomina6on) will be called and together will go into the Holy Family Room to break
open the Word of God; sponsors will con6nue to par6cipate in the Mass.
March 24, Tuesday RCIA Session— “Challenge to Promote Life and the FiHh
Commandment” will be presented by Denny Edmonds and Marian Knueven. All are welcome to learn or refresh your understanding by joining the group in the St. Malachy Shamrock
Café from 6:45-8:15 PM.

Reconciliation and may be wearing a green ribbon with gold crosses around their
necks. You are encouraged to congratulate these students on their celebrating
their First Reconciliation. In addition, we ask you to pray for them
as they prepare to receive their First Holy Communion after Easter.

Priest, Prophet, King by Father Robert Barron is a six week series that will meet on Tues-

Summer Religious Education classes are scheduled from 8-11 AM, Monday through
days from 6:45-8:15 PM beginning April 21 and concluding May 26. Karen Murray will
facilitate this series that focuses on Jesus as the Anointed One—the ul6mate priest, prophet
and king foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Throughout this experience, you
will beEer understand who Jesus really is and also realize our own priestly, prophe6c, and
kingly mission. The cost of the Study Guide and series is $30. You may register online, in the
parish office or emailing mknueven@stmalachy.org. Please pay for the series as you register
as Study Guides will be ordered on April 2 for all those who have registered and paid for the
materials.

Capital Campaign and Loans Update
The Fulfilling the Promise capital campaign has started its third calendar year, 2015.
As a reminder, the total amount of pledges received from our parishioners was
$5,891,000. As of January 31, 2015, or 25 months into the campaign, $3,029,183
has been collected toward that pledge amount. Meaning, 51.4% of pledges have
been received. This is great progress for the first two years of the campaign! Thank
you to all who help the campaign, whether it be financially and/or prayerfully.
As for the actual loans themselves, we currently have two separate loans. The
church construc6on loan has a balance of $822,914.75 and the school reloca6on
loan has a balance of $7,911,967.37; both as of January 31st, 2015. The combined
total is $8,734,882.13. At the end of the campaign, or December 2017, the combined total of both loans should be below $6,333,000. This is specified per our loan
agreement.
Periodically the parish leadership will con6nue to give updates on the campaign and

GOOD FRIDAY TENEBRAE SERVICE
"In the Shadow of the Cross"
The Gospels paint a vivid picture of the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus. From his
triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, to his burial in the tomb, this Tenebrae service is an
opportunity to reflect on the last poignant moments of Jesus’ earthly life. Join us as we retell this story
through a series of readings and choral hymns. With each step of the journey, a candle is extinguished, until
the church is plunged into a darkness symbolic of Jesus’ three days in the tomb. The next light to enter the
church will be the Paschal candle at the Easter Vigil. The Tenebrae Service will be held on Good Friday, April
3rd, at 9:00 PM and it will last approximately 45 minutes. Childcare will be provided.
