We’d like to recognise our highest fundraisers for the amazing amounts they raised 1st Car 55 - Martin Stone, Graeme Donoghue and Richard Fardell 2nd Car 1717 - Steve Donnellon, Greg Fisher and Greg Johnston 3rd Car 95 - David Boxshall, Simon Minton - Connell and Jeff Maloney From the Bash Chairman Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone for welcoming me aboard as the new Bash Chairman, you have been very supportive. I’m looking forward to working with all of you, both new and existing entrants, and I welcome your ideas going forward. Variety Office PO Box 1076 South Melbourne VIC 3205 Telephone 03 8698 3900 Facsimile 03 I have been working closely with Julie and Jemma in the office since returning from the Bash. We are in the process of putting together an Advisory Committee structure, to get you the Bashers involved in the Bash planning process. If anyone is interested in being a part of this committee, please let myself or the Bash office know. More details to follow in the coming weeks. Finally, on behalf of everyone involved in the Bash, I’d like to thank Rod Collins for his hard work and dedication in 11 years as Bash Chairman. As I’m sure many of you would agree, he has set a high precedence for the Bash, and I look forward to continuing on with the standards he has set. P a g e 2 From the Bash Event Manager Congratulations to everyone on a successful 2010 Bash. With this completed we are moving full steam ahead with plans for 2011. As most of you read this, I am on the first survey to plan next years event in Tasmania. On behalf of Variety, I would like to thank Kristy Peters and the great team at the Spirit of Tasmania for the complimentary travel on the boat plus accommodation and meals whilst we are away. Having experienced so much of the mainland, 2011 will see us take on the Apple Isle and all has to offer. Even though its our smallest state, there is so much to see and do and we will endeavour to do it all. We are currently pursuing new sponsorship opportunities and look forward to any leads from our Bashers. Sunday November 21 has been locked in for the launch of the 2011 Bash with full details to be sent out soon. We are also planning a Christmas get together and will provide full details shortly. Looking forward to having you all back onboard for 2011. Julie From the Bash Coordinator “On the Bash I was in awe of you all, your spirit, your generosity and your dedication—it was inspiring.” On the road : 6am B a s h Wow. Just simply, wow. All year people tried to ‘explain’ the Bash experience to me, but it’s not until you do the event for yourself that you really start to understand and appreciate it for what it is. My first bash was an amazing experience, travelling across Australia and seeing places and things I have never seen before. But what I think makes the Bash what it is, is the people, it’s you the Basher’s. Throughout the year in the lead up to the bash, I have been amazed at the work that you all do and the ways in which you fundraise to bring money in. On the Bash I was in N e w s l e t t e r awe of you all, your spirit, your generosity and your dedication—it was inspiring. It was an absolute pleasure to get to know many of you better, and I look forward to the year coming and hope that you will all return for our 2011 Bash. As with everyone, I had a few stories that I brought home with me from the trip. I got trapped in the car when my seatbelt wouldn’t budge and had to get the workshop guys to rescue me! Then, I was involved in the moving of the tree that blocked the road, only to see another tree fall behind us onto the Odd Squad’s van! And that was only on day one! I can only imagine all the stories you all have to tell! So that’s why this month I am introducing a new segment to the newsletter called “The Bash Gallery”. Throughout the year, I’d like you to send me your stories, and photo’s of the Bash related events you hold and attend, and each month we’ll publish the best ones in the newsletter. So for next month, please send me your best 2010 Bash pictures and stories… I look forward to seeing them! Vale Phil The Board and Staff of Variety Victoria send their sincere condolences to the Sadler family at the passing of Phil on Thursday 30th September. We farewell one of our long time Basher, 4WD Trek participant and Variety supporter. In May Phil was awarded the Trek Legends Award for over 12 years of participation and fundraising. Variety. Because some children are extra special. Children growing up with disability, serious illness or disadvantage need help from a special charity. That charity is Variety. With your support, Variety the children's charity gives more than a million dollars worth of goods and services a month to Australian children with special needs. That may seem like a lot of money, but we can always give more. You can make a difference by becoming involved with Variety. You can donate money, volunteer your time, or assist in other ways so we can continue doing amazing things for those special children who urgently need our help. Your money helps in a variety of ways. Each week, Variety Victoria directly helps approximately three individual children and families in need - providing practical and much needed grants for items like modified tricycles, electric beds, and communication devices for children who would otherwise ‘fall through the gaps' and have nowhere else to turn. But we could do more with your help. Thousands of special children travel on Sunshine Coaches every day, with three new Sunshine Coaches added to the road in Australia every single month. But we want enough on the road to get all our special children out in the sunshine and interacting with people who care. Help us get more Sunshine Coaches on the road. Regional and disadvantaged schools receive much needed computers as well as vital learning and play equipment. We also receive hundreds of requests for vocal output devices, communication software and other technologies. With your money more special children will be able to find a voice or become mobile.
