The Beaver Valley Catholic Elementary Schools wish
everyone a Happy New Year. Our schools include Our Lady of
Fatima in Hopewell Township, Saint Monica Catholic Academy
in Beaver Falls, and Saints Peter and Paul in Beaver. They are
regional schools with students from every school district in
Beaver County.
We offer enrollment to all students regardless of religious
affiliation and are an affordable option to the public schools
in Beaver County. Financial aid is available through the
Bishop’s Education Fund and the Diocesan Scholastic
Opportunity Scholarship Fund . Additionally, we offer flexible
payment plans to spread tuition payments throughout the school year.
Busing is provided through the public school districts within 10 miles of your school
district border. Our schools include 3 and 4 year old preschool, full day kindergarten, and
1st through 8th grade. We also offer extended day options. A wide variety of extracurricular
activities are available including academic games, athletics, band, plays, and many more.
Each school is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges
in addition to meeting all state and diocesan curriculum requirements, and all faculty are
certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. As with all schools in the Diocese
of Pittsburgh, we have not adopted curriculum based on the Common Core. We set higher
curriculum standards and work to ensure our students are challenged to exceed them.
In cooperation with the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit, our schools offer learning support,
reading interventions and speech therapy for children of all learning abilities. We make use
of SMART board technology in fully networked classrooms and integrate technology into our
curriculum through the use of tablets in the classroom where appropriate.

Engage Your Audience: What’s In It For Them?
Ever speak to a group and wonder, Are they paying any attention at all?
It’s probably happened to all of us. We’ve been asked to make a presentation.
We prepare and plan – only to be met with blank looks and bored faces.
A trap that many speakers fall into is thinking about the presentation from
just their perspective. What do I need to say, teach, or explain? What do I want the
group to think or feel or do after they hear me?
While these are all important questions to answer, the other crucial question to
answer is: WIIFT? (What’s In It For Them?)
When you’re trying to persuade, inspire, or educate a group, put yourself in their

manufacturer of residential water treatment systems in the world, providing
families with high-quality water for more than 75 years.
As a member of the National Comfort Institute (NCI), Nexstar and Service
Roundtable, Homer Nine and Sons has supplied the most advanced
training in the industry. All service employees are qualified to perform
Carbon Monoxide Testing & Combustion Analysis for residential and light
commercial systems, according to NCI standards and practices.
In 2015, Homer Nine and Sons was voted The Times’ Best of The Valley in
heating and air conditioning companies for the ninth straight year.
Homer Nine conducted its “We Support You Campaign” in conjunction
with the Beaver County Times. Throughout the month of October, National
Fire Prevention Month, Homer Nine made a donation to a local fire

health counseling service
that provides individual
and group counseling
for adolescents and
adults experiencing life
challenges including
Anger Management,
Anxiety, Chronic Illnesses,

Conflicts, Terminal Illnesses,
and Grief and Loss, to
name a few. Therapist,
Loretta Beck, MS, has over 20 years of professional experience in
the counseling arena gained from working in both psychiatric
institutions and educational settings. Ms. Beck spent several
years assisting adolescents and adults in an in-patient psychiatric
program as well as serving adolescents and families as a secondary school
counselor. In addition, Ms. Beck has developed and ran out-patient therapeutic and
support groups for Anger Management, Social Skill Development, Chronic Illness
Management and Depression. Open Joy provides a specialized therapeutic group
for parents who have lost a child to unexpected tragedy or suicide. Also offered
are two support groups, “How to survive the tween years for parents,” and “How to
survive the teen years for parents.” These support groups are offered free of charge
and can be attended as needed. Ms. Beck invites you to allow her to assist you in

A Chamber Colloquy:
These are promising yet challenging times
for Beaver County. One such challenge is
continuing to raise the prosperity of all Beaver
County residents while improving the quality
of life that Beaver Countians desire. Nearly
one in eight of us live below the household
income poverty line. Decades of declining
wages and the loss of middleclass jobs, as
well as population migration, present us with
significant issues. These issues require everyone
to get engaged and try to make a difference.
Part of my excitement in accepting the role of
President of the Beaver County Chamber of
Commerce is due to the diversity and expertise
of its members and our collective ability to tackle
and solve tough problems.
One way to start tapping this expertise is to
make sure that everyone is aligned and moving
in-sync toward the goal of improving the
region economically. And the idea of having
sustainable middleclass jobs with a healthy
quality of life is not a fantasy. Nothing improves
your outlook on life more than having a job
that provides you income to raise your family,
dignity and self-worth as a human being, and
allows you to contribute something back to your
w w w . b c c h a m b e r . c o m
community. It’s what we all covet, working in a
socially responsible business with the ability to
contribute something back to our community.
If fact, many of us believe we have a moral
obligation to do so.
The Chamber’s stated goal is “to position
Beaver County and its communities as premiere
places to live and work”. We strongly believe
that improving the local economy is an
important element of making that happen.
That is why we are proud to be one of the
founding members of the “376 Economic
Partnership,” along with the Beaver County
Board of Commissioners, the Beaver County
Corporation for Economic Development and
the Beaver County Redevelopment Authority.
To be sure, the selection of Beaver County for
a potential multi-billion dollar investment
by a global company has put us on the map
internationally. But the 376 Partnership is about
much more than exploiting the opportunity to
redevelop some brownfield sites along I-376. It’s
about smart planning that allows our people
and natural resources to reach their full potential.
It’s summed up in our tagline of “Business.
Community. People.” It’s about our goal of
bringing prosperity to all three of these while
improving our quality of life. And the Chamber
couldn’t be more excited about the future of
Beaver County.
