FD Nazca Lines Flightseeing Duration: 1 day Highlights: Nazca Lines, Regional Museum of Ica View the Nazca Lines from above in a small private aircraft. Itinerary FULL LENGTH TOUR DESCRIPTION Over a millennium of history and ancient culture is covered on this fascinating tour. You will begin with a transfer to the airport of Lima for a one-hour flight to Ica. Here, board a small aircraft for a spectacular flight over the age-old figures drawn in the earth's surface near the town of Nazca. One of the best known archaeological sites in South America, these "lines" are called geoglyphs, and, based on a studies of pottery found at the lines and dating of wood samples, it is believed that people living in the region of Nazca probably created these strange desert-drawings between 300BC and 800AD. They depict animals including a 590-foot-long lizard, and a 295-foot-high monkey with an extravagantly curled tail. The lines are only visible from the air - a phenomenon which raises many unanswered questions for anthropologists as to their purpose, and how they were originally viewed. It is widely accepted that the pre-Inca Nazca civilization (dating back more than 2,500 years) was highly advanced in the field of astronomy and ceramic art. Your tour continues afterwards to the Regional Museum of Ica, home to a large collection of artifacts from the pre-Inca Paracas culture, including fossils, mummies and robes, and Nazca pottery, as well as Colonial and Republican pieces. Before lunch, served at a leading hotel in Ica, you will have the chance to visit the oasis of Huacachina. robes, and Nazca pottery, as well as Colonial and Republican pieces.
