St. Katharine Drexel Mission Statement
To continue the mission
of Jesus through
prayer, service and sharing.
FR. JERRY’S CORNER
frjerry@skdchurch.org
Heeding the gospel call to love others, the World’s Poor collection will take place this weekend, March 5-6. Through the collection we are asked to host a combined collection for agencies that work against poverty and promote dignity in the name of the Catholic Church. The 2016 collection includes the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Peter’s Pence, and the Catholic Relief
Services collection. Please join Pope Francis and be a witness of charity throughout the world.
In conjunction with area parishes and Habitat for Humanity, we will be invited to participate in building a home for Wilmar &
Elizabeth Reyes and their 3 children as part of Catholic Build. You will have a chance to participate in the construction of the house,
make and serve lunch, and help us raise $5,000. This is an invitation from Jesus to shelter the homeless.
The theme for this year’s Bishop’s Appeal is “Faces of God’s Mercy.” The Bishop’s Appeal is a stewardship opportunity for
each of us to reach out to thousands of people in search of Jesus’ love. Each gift supports the ministries of the Diocese of Green Bay
which serve our parishes, Catholic Schools and communities. Children in Catholic Schools and parish religious education programs
learn to know and love Jesus. Whether you consider and increase in giving or not, please accept my thanks for whatever you can give.
Our goal for the 2016 Bishop’s Appeal is $69,218. Join with me in being “Faces of God’s Mercy.”
The Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy is a remarkable occasion during which the entire Catholic Church, under the humble leadership of Pope Francis, opens wide the doors to the saving mercy of Christ. This year of mercy invites us to reflect upon the
Corporal Works of Mercy. One of them is to clothe the naked. The first thing that we think about is how we donated clothes, but that is
just the physical reality. The spiritual reality changes us to clothe ourselves and others in the dignity of God’s love. Do I clothe myself
and others in the dignity of God’s love? For what we do to the least of my brothers and sisters we do to Jesus.
If you did not receive a copy of the book entitled, “Rediscover Jesus: An Invitation” by Matthew Kelly we will have extra
copies at the entrances of churches for you to take. In Chapter 6 we are asked the question, “Do you have a really good reason not to
take Jesus at His word?” Jesus, I believe. Help me to grow out of my doubts and unbelief.
As we continue our journey through Year II of “Disciples on the Way” we will continue to focus on “Formation in Prayer
and Holiness” and recognize God’s invitation to be holy, to come, to meet Jesus, to know Jesus and to grow in faith. We will continue
to have a holy hour the First Friday of each month from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM at St. Mary church. Our next holy hour will take place
on Friday, April 1. The first weekend of the month there will be an insert with prayers that you can say individually or as a family
every day for that particular week. You can pick out a word or phrase from that prayer each day and reflect upon it.
“Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother” with Dr. Edward Sri on the first Thursday of the month, Next Session
April 7: 1:00 PM or 6:30 PM at the St. Aloysius Site. Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom with Jeff Cavins & Sarah Christmyer on the
second Thursday of the month, Next Session March 10: 1:00 PM or 6:30 PM at the St. Aloysius site. Check our website
www.skdchurch.org for further information.
Peace,
Fr. Jerry

Rejoice!
This Sunday is the fourth Sunday
of Lent. Traditionally it is known
inistry
at “Laetare” Sunday, so called
from Donna from the first word of the Entrance
dvandenheuvel@skdchurch.org antiphon. “Laetare” (Rejoice),
taken from the Latin translation of
Isaiah 66:10-11, sets a joyful anticipation of the Easter mystery.
Rose- colored vestments are permitted to be worn this weekend,
instruments may also be played at Mass and the altar may be
decorated with flowers. Lent is half over.

In 1848, Father Theodore Van den Broek accompanied
three boatloads of Dutch immigrants to Little Chute to begin a
new life. Entire families carrying everything they owned arrived
after a difficult 8 week journey by sea. Many of these families
traveled further and settled into what is now Hollandtown. The
Little Chute Windmill stands in celebration of their contribution
to the Dutch heritage in surrounding communities.
Would you consider providing a
portion of your time to this remarkable
monument of Dutch history? The Little
Chute Windmill is in need of Greeters,
Tour Guides and Millers for the upcoming
season. For more information, stop by the
windmill between 2pm-6pm on Wednesday, March 9. Or contact Debby Van
