January 10, 2016 Society of St. Vincent de Paul 281.333.2509 Office Hours: Tuesday – Wednesday, 9:30 - 11:30 AM Thursday: 6:00 – 8:00 PM After Jesus was baptized, he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and a voice was heard “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” As we give to the poor, we also can hear these same words. As you help those who are suffering, know in your heart the truth of the words “you are my beloved in whom I am well pleased”. Your gifts are a blessing to those in need as was noted by a family who benefited from your contributions to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul during a difficult time. The following thank you card, along with a donation to St. Vincent de Paul, was recently received from a grateful client: “SVdP Volunteers, **** and I, are so grateful for all of your assistance during our time of need. Please accept this small token of our appreciation. Thank you & God Bless” If you would also like to give the gift of time and service in 2016, please consider joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Members of the Society embrace these goals: • To pursue holiness with the support of friends in the Conference through prayer together and acts; • To proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in word and action; and • To serve the poor directly, person-to-person, having a deep concern for people who are poor Members join the Society, not because they are perfected in their faith, but because they seek to develop faith by living it both individually and communally with other members. Progress, not perfection, is what is desired in a member. The Society is for people who acknowledge the need to improve their living of the Gospel life and want to do so through the Society. Please join us at our next meeting to learn more. As we come to the end of the AdventChristmas season this weekend, we thank all those who contributed in a special way to our preparation for and celebration of the coming of Christ. *The priests who came to hear confessions – more than 250 people availed themselves of this sacrament of mercy and grace in our Penance Service on December15th; *Our choirs, whose music made us reflective during Advent and joyful during Christmas; *All those who enabled our Church to be so beautiful: those who worked so very hard to create an environment which led us all to prayer and those who donated for the Christmas decorations; *Those who worked so hard to prepare and present “Breakfast with Santa,” the “Pastorela” and the “Polar Express;” *Everyone who participated in Gift Giving Sunday; *Our “Knitting Ladies” through whose ministry over 50 shawls and lap blankets were donated to the local Veterans’ Hospital; *The volunteers who clean the Church Vessels and Linens. MANY THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! First Responders/Security Committee Over the past few months, a number of situations have arisen during Mass which needed special care. As a result, we would like to form a committee of volunteers who already have training in first aid, medicine, security, crowd control, firefighting, etc. If that sounds like YOU, please see Joyce Lubofsky at next weekend’s Ministry Fair. LITURGICAL MINISTRIES If you are interested in serving as a Lector, Extra Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist or Usher/Greeter — please stop by our table at the Ministry Fair next weekend and speak with Joyce Lubofsky! We are also in need of assistance with cleaning Altar Linens and Votive Candle stands. ADORERS NEEDED! There are openings for partner adorers during the day/night – and there is an open hour at 1 AM Saturday. Would you consider spending an hour with the Lord?
