No.1 Noodle Restaurant Company 2 社長メッセージ President’s Message ’ Since foundation of the company in 1970 we have been serving Soba (buckwheat noodle) and Udon (wheat noodle), based on our mottoes of “Serving the community through food culture” and “Serving customers through our business”. This year, a well-known Udon restaurant company, Ajino-Mingei Food Service Co., Ltd. has joined Sagami Group. While Sagami is headquartered in Nagoya, Central Japan, Ajino-Mingei is from Tokyo. The cities are the centers of the 2 strongest regions leading Japan’s economy and the new Sagami Group has now wide-spread network in the growing areas. Besides our No.1 position of serving Soba in Japan’s food service industry, Sagami’s “Misonikomi Udon (traditional noodle in soup with red miso, fermented soybean paste, featured in Nagoya region)” enjoys the greatest number of sales in Japan according to our survey. Ajino-Mingei is serving the biggest number of “Hand-Stretch-Type Udon” in Japan. While it gives us great joy we feel even happier to see smiles of customers and hear their warm words like “Thank you. We enjoyed the meal” or “We’ll come back for sure”. Therefore, everyone in the Sagami Group has been doing his/her best in cooking and serving by sharing the spirit of “Glad for ‘Thank you’ ”. Fortunately, we have been receiving growing number of “Thanks” from our customers. It encourages us and we are committed to serve customers at even higher level. Since the concept of “healthy life expectancy (HALE)” has been introduced by World Health Organization (WHO), Japanese have been No.1 in both men and women (only recently men become No.3). HALE is defined as life expectancy in “full health”, namely deducting nursing care period from actual life expectancy. Japanese diet is known for its healthiness, featured by less meat and more fish (EPA and DHA) but we strongly believe that “Nagoya-Meshi” and “rutin” intake contributes in large, too. Inside Japan, the HALE of Aichi Prefecture is No.1 in men and No.3 in women among 47 prefectures. Buckwheat is the most known plant containing rutin, flavonoid, that strengthens capillary and its rich and well-balanced essential amino acid contents has enormously high value. As the world’s largest No.1 Soba restaurant operator, we are committed to introduce the benefit of buckwheat to the world. Outside of Japan, we have currently 3 restaurants in Shanghai, China, 1 in Bangkok, Thailand and 1 in Jakarta, Indonesia. We are planning to open 20 outlets in ASEAN countries in 5 years. Sagami, the only Japanese food service company at Japan Pavilion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the occasion of soccer World Cup in June 2014, has served soba noodles to VIPs from the world. We will again serve soba in Japan Pavilion in Milan, Italy during the Milan Expo (May - Oct, 2015). We are aiming at seeing smiles of soba enjoying customers as many as possible in the world. 鎌田 敏行 Yours faithfully, Toshiyuki KAMADA CEO, Sagami Group Sep 2014
