Fact sheet for Lynnwood Link
JUNE 2012 Lynnwood Link Extension Extending light rail from Northgate to Lynnwood Sound Transit is preparing to extend light rail from Northgate to Lynnwood, which voters approved as part of the Sound Transit 2 Plan in 2008 along with funding to continue planning future service all the way to Everett. This project relies on competing for and receiving significant federal funding. Based on results of environmental scoping and community input received over several months in 2011, the Sound Transit Board took a major step by confirming that light rail is the best mode of transit and Interstate 5 is the right corridor to study based on ridership, travel times, service levels and cost. As we begin environmental review of potential alignments and station options, public involvement is key for a successful project. Sound Transit also is gathering input from local jurisdictions including the cities of Seattle, Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds and Lynnwood as well as King and Snohomish counties. This spring, the Sound Transit Board identified the route and station options to examine more closely in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) process. PROJECT BENEFITS The Lynnwood Link Extension will connect to and build on the Link light rail line that opened for service between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport in 2009. n Construction is currently underway on a light rail extension to the University of Washington scheduled to open in 2016, followed by service to Northgate targeted for opening in 2021. Voter-approved additions will bring 36 new miles of service to the north, south and east, creating more than 50 miles of regional light rail service. n continued on back FOR MORE INFORMATION Email LynnwoodLink@soundtransit.org Call Roger Iwata at 206-689-4904 Visit www.soundtransit.org/LLE n n n 8.5 miles of new light rail service Northgate to Lynnwood with several new light rail stations Frequent, reliable service between south Snohomish County and the University of Washington, downtown Seattle and other regional destinations Increased mobility, access and transportation capacity for residents and workers Target opening for service in 2023 LIGHT RAIL ROUTE AND STATION OPTIONS UNDER CONSIDERATION Lynnwood Library Alderwood Mall Map Key 196th St SW Lynnwood Lynnwood Transit Center 200th St SW Edmonds Community College XXXX XXXX XX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Premera Blue Cross 220th St SW P One route option west of I-5 serves a 220th St SW station, one option does not.
