Power, as we know consists of two components, active and reactive power. The total sum of active and reactive power is called as apparent power. In AC circuits, energy is stored temporarily in inductive and capacitive elements, which results in the periodic reversal of the direction of flow of energy between the source and the load. • Need for Reactive power compensation The main reason for reactive power compensation in a sys• • • • tem is; The voltage Regulation. Increased system stability. Better utilization of machines connected to the system. Reducing losses associated with the system. • Concept of FACTS Devices A power electronic-based system and other static equipment that provide control of one or more AC transmission system parameters. As new technology for power transmission system, FACTS and FACTS controllers not only provide the same benefits as Note: Bracket Value ( ) indicates the negative value(-ve). PANACEAN POWER BULLETIN Volume 2 Issue 5 Read More... conventional compensators with mechanically-controlled switches in steady state but also improve the dynamic and transient performance of the power system. The power electronics-based switches in the functional blocks of FACTS can usually be operated repeatedly and the switching time is a portion of a periodic cycle, which is much shorter than the conventional mechanical switches. The advance of semiconductors increases the switching frequency and voltage-ampere ratings of the solid switches and facilitates the applications. The Flexible AC transmission system or FACTS used are: 1) VAR generators. a) Fixed or mechanically switched capacitors. b) Synchronous condensers. c) Thyristorized VAR compensators (i) Thyristors switched capacitors (TSCs). (ii) Thyristor controlled reactor (TCRs). (iii) Combined TSC and TCR. (iv)Thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC). 2) Self Commutated VAR compensators. a) Static synchronous compensators (STATCOMs). b) Static synchronous series compensators (SSSCs). c) Unified power flow controllers (UPFCs). d) Dynamic voltage restorers (DVRs) Aug-2015 www.panaceanenergy.com 4 DD User Click to get UI Report DEVIATION CHARGES DNH User Click to get UI Report DNH-Deviation Charges DD-Deviation Charges UI Drawal (MUs) Under Over Drawal Drawal UI Charges (Rs Lakh) ReceivaPayable ble UI Drawal (MUs) UI Charges (RsLakh) Date Drawal (MUs) Schedule (MUs) Under Drawal Over Drawal Payable Receivable Date Drawal (MUs) Schedule (MUs) Cumulative Total up to June-15 575.4 577.9 17.8 (15.4) 377.8 284.6 Cumulative Total up to June-15 1450.6 1464.0 28.9 (15.5) 369.5 527.2 13-07-2015 to 19-07-2015 46.5 45.1 0.7 (2.0) 59.3 14.3 13-07-2015 to 19-07-2015 114.9 116.2 1.9 (0.6) 16.0 45.2 13-07-2014 to 19-07-2014 42.7 38.1 0.1 (4.7) 160.4 1.3 13-07-2014 to 19-07-2014 104.9 105.8 2.5 (1.6) 49.2 54.5 06-07-2015 to 12-07-2015 46.7 44.7 0.2 (2.2) 75.3 1.8 06-07-2015 to 12-07-2015 115.6 116.9 2.3 (0.9) 21.9 35.1 06-07-2014 to 12-07-2014 43.5 39.8 0.0 (3.7) 190.0 1.4 06-07-2014 to 12-07-2014 108.3 107.5 1.2 (1.9) 98.0 49.0 DNH DD FY 2014-15 (All Freq Hz) UI Rate in FY 2015-16 (All Freq Hz) UI Rate Under Over Drawl in Drawl in in MU's MU's Rs /Unit Under Drawl in MU's Over Drawl in MU's Rs/Unit April 2.23 4.86 (2.60) 4.57 (5.65) 7.87 MONTH May 4.80 5.37 (3.68) 8.94 (2.17) 1.96 June July 5.30 1.51 8.16 17.26 (5.80) (4.58) 4.32 - (7.58) - 4.34 - Aug 1.94 20.47 (5.70) - - - Sept 5.34 5.46 (42.06) - - - Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar 4.90 4.88 4.97 5.67 3.24 2.70 2.43 1.39 1.37 1.36 3.31 6.23 (2.45) (1.60) (1.18) (1.68) (46.84) (3.08) - - - Total 47.48 77.66 (6.60) 17.83 (15.40) 3.83 DD FY 2014-15(<49.7Hz) MONTH April May June July Aug Sept Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Total Under Drawl in MU's 0.01 0.18 0.11 0.01 0.01 0.05 0.02 0.00 0.01 0.00 0.01 0.00 0.41 Over Drawl in MU's 0.02 0.01 0.32 0.48 0.80 0.08 0.01 0.00 0.01 0.01 0.00 0.01 1.74 UI Rate Rs /Unit (21.34) (2.13) (17.77) (15.82) (16.89) (29.11) 2.62 (8.42) (1.02) (29.09) (5.28) (16.42) (19.20) MONTH Over Drawl in MU's (0.03) (0.02) (0.01) (0.06) UI Rate in Rs /Unit 9.01 9.65 10.50 7.11 (2.62) (2.21) (3.90) (1.21) 2.47 11.39 8.35 - (9.01) (3.42) (6.03) - 0.41 2.13 1.08 - Aug 3.48 15.76 (5.28) - - - Sept 6.42 5.44 (3.40) - - - Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar 6.51 4.32 4.31 4.56 8.53 11.57 5.39 7.38 3.37 5.92 3.28 2.89 1.94 (2.80) (0.37) (5.54) (1.14) (1.56) - - - Total 69.51 85.72 (6.79) 28.89 (15.52) 1.18 DNH MONTH Rs /Unit PANACEAN POWER BULLETIN Volume 2 Issue 5 Over Drawl in MU's 2.47 2.79 5.25 9.30 FY 2014-15(<49.7Hz) UI Rate in FY 2015-16 (All Freq Hz) Under Drawl in MU's April May June July FY 2015-16(<49.7Hz) Under Drawl in MU's 0.00 0.01 0.00 0.01 FY 2014-15 (All Freq Hz) UI Rate Under Over in Drawl in Drawl in MU's MU's Rs/Unit 15.36 53.69 17.11 19.20 Aug-2015 April May June July Aug Sept Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Total Under Drawl in MU's 0.01 0.05 0.30 0.18 0.03 0.10 0.03 0.00 0.01 0.01 0.00 0.00 0.74 Over Drawl in MU's 0.08 0.02 0.59 0.17 0.61 0.01 0.02 0.00 0.01 0.02 0.00 0.00 1.54 UI Rate Rs /Unit (14.52) (3.65) (23.89) 111.68 (17.59) (6.55) 6.67 (16.16) 3.25 (22.34) (8.71) (8.40) (23.41) FY 2015-16(<49.7Hz) Under Drawl in MU's 0.02 0.02 0.01 0.05 Over Drawl in MU's (0.01) 0.00 0.00 (0.01) www.panaceanenergy.com UI Rate in Rs /Unit 12.66 5.63 7.70 3.21 5 POWER SECTOR ACTIVITIES CEA • Peak Power Deficit Drops to 3% in June as Against 5.1% a Year Ago: CEA Peak demand of power in the country in June-2015 was 144,732 MW of which 140,441 MW was met. MNRE estimated that the park plans will require an investment of INR 40.5 billion (US$638 million) of Central Financial Assistance (CFA) from the Indian Government. The parks also aim to contribute to a state’s Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO) and provide employment opportunities to local populations. Government wasteland, non-agricultural land, cold and hot deserts and sides of highways were all cited as potential locations for solar parks.
