The 10,000 Steps Program uses a pedometer to count steps. It is a very useful
motivational tool which is absolutely necessary to your success. The pedometer will
monitor your activity level by providing you instant feedback and it will help you set
some measurable goals toward becoming more physically active. Whether you are
inactive or very active, the pedometer can help increase and maintain your activity levels.

Trek Across America & California
Trek Across America & California are self paced programs that allow
individuals to be rewarded when the goal is achieved. The program
is based on the honor system and is a year round program. There are
worksheets located in a folder by the front desk at the El Segundo
and Fort MacArthur Fitness Centers to keep track of your mileage.
Prizes are given when you reach highlighted landmarks along the
map. If you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer
your mileage to the USA Trek but prizes will start from Amarillo, Texas.
Modes of travel can be achieved through the following exercises:
Treadmill, Bike, Stepper, Cross Trainer, Rower & Run/Walk
Courses are FREE. No pre-registration required. Instructor and class
content are subject to change.

military members. The five-day format covers a broad range of
topics from financial planning to job search, plus VA benefits.

Camp & Hike Anza-Borrego

It doesn’t happen every year, but after particularly wet winters,
Anza-Borrego pops to life with an explosive bloom of desert
wildflowers. Outdoor Recreation will lead a guided hike to a palm
tree oasis, a visit to a narrow siltstone canyon simply known as “The
Slot”, and an overnight camp out. No camping or hiking experience
necessary. Transportation, camping, and meals included.

Intro to Backpacking-Catalina Island

Although it is a part of Los Angeles County, Catalina Island
could not be any more different from its’ mainland counterparts.
Participants will learn the basics and embark on a mild and scenic
trail from Two Harbors to our campsites at secluded Parson’s
Landing. This trip is all inclusive (ferry, supplies, meals, etc.).
There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting for all registrants on
Tuesday, May 10 at 5 p.m. at the El Segundo Fitness Center.

Operation Megaphone is an overnight event at Edwards AFB where
youth are given the opportunity to showcase their team building skills.
We will meet other youth from Vandenberg, Beale, Travis, and Nellis Air
Force Bases. Come prepared for an overnight stay and to participate in
tons of activities such as workshops, basketball, roller skating, bowling
and outside scavenger hunt. Please see Youth Programs Front Desk for

School Age Program (Ages 5-12)
Before and After School Program provides age-appropriate child
care with quality programming, youth activities and events.
Clubs, Activities, and USDA approved meals and snacks are
offered. Transportation to and from select schools is available.
The program focuses on team building, cognitive growth, and
development of social awareness and problem solving skills. The
staff offers homework support to youth enrolled in the School
Age Program.

Open Recreation Program (Ages 9-18)
This program provides recreational options for all dependents
of active duty, retired military, DoD employees, and contractors
living on base under a Tierra Vista lease contract. Youth must
have current membership and be between 9-18 years of age.
Community service programs, clubs, and classes are offered with
focus on recreational activities, cognitive challenges, and team
building. $25 per year
Transportation Program (Ages 9-18)
Youth Program members are eligible for transportation to and from
select schools: Leland Elementary, Point Fermin Elementary, White
Point Elementary, Dana Middle School, and Port of Los Angeles
High School. Upon return, registered youth may enjoy our Open
Recreation Program, or go directly home. $50 per week
*Note: Participation in the transportation program does not automatically register
youth for after school activities. Youth must be enrolled in Open Recreation and
other programming separately.

Explorer Club (Ages 5-8)
Mondays April 4, 11, 18, & 25, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Youth will have to opportunity to explore Fine Arts, Fitness, and
Cooking on a rotating basis. Youth use various mediums to create
one of a kind art creations and are encouraged to work toward
entering their work into the Air Force Fine Arts competitions and
exhibits. Fitness activities encourage youth to get out and have
fun in the sun. Cooking teaches youth how to make healthy meals
that can be shared at home. Join us today to learn and use skills in
healthy eating, mathematics, language, and much more.
Youth Karate (Ages 5-14)
Mondays & Wednesdays, 5 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Join in the fun, learn the fundamentals of Karate with Sensei
Jerome. This class is open to Youth Program members. FREE
Torch BGCA Leadership Club (Ages 9-18)
Tuesdays April 5, 12, 19 & 26, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.
All youth are encouraged to join the Torch Club. Youth and advisors
discuss ways to improve our program, community, and our world.
Past members have learned valuable leadership skills, strategic
planning, organizing, cooperation, team building and much more.

Wilson’s Tae Kwon Do Academy (Ages 6 and older)

Fort MacArthur Fitness Center
Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art, which focuses on hand and foot
techniques that neutralize attacks and provide a means of protecting
both yourself and your loved ones. The practice and employment of
these techniques is governed by the Five Tenets: Courtesy, Integrity,
Self-Control, Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. The program is
“Family Style” meaning that it is open to males and females, children
and adults, from 6 years old and up. New students are accepted

The Home School Club offers families who choose to educate at home
an opportunity to interact with other youth in similar programs. Home
School Club provides a variety of activities that may include art, sports,

Time to get out and have some team-building fun in the sun.

home. Family Child Care (FCC) staff will
train and help you provide responsible and
safe in-home care for children 2 weeks to 13
years old in your government or affiliated
off-base home.
We’ll make sure you have the skills, promotion
and resources you need.
We’re also looking for providers for special
needs, weekend & extended hours child care.

Individuals taking care of someone else’s
children in base quarters on a regular basis for
more than 10 hours per week must be licensed.
Residents of base housing who knowingly
provide unlicensed child care are in danger of
losing their base housing privileges. The care
in FCC is provided in the home of individuals
licensed under AFI 34-276 guidelines.
These licensed child care providers must
complete (at a minimum) 24 hours of
orientation, be certified in CPR/First Aid,
complete AF child care training modules,
obtain liability insurance and have their
home meet fire prevention, health and safety
guidelines. Please contact the FCC office for
