welcome to - Astrid Lindgrens Värld
New! The Brothers Lionheart Illustration © Ingrid Vang Nyman / Saltkråkan AB welcome to We are open daily from 20 may to 28 august and on weekends throughout september. in the autumn, we are open on some weekdays as well as during the swedish half-term. when we have a traditional autum craft market. STEP RIGHT INTO ASTRID LINDGREN’S STORIES B e there when That Emil hoists Ida up the flagpole, play tag with Pippi Longstocking or explore Matt’s Fort. In Astrid Lindgren’s World you and your family become part of the classic children’s stories, and the line between story and reality, and between theatre and play, becomes blurred. The park is full of imaginative play areas, and music and singing can be heard from our many stages throughout the day. If you become hungry, find a nice picnic area or visit one of our restaurants that serve hearty Småland food made from local produce. When you tire after a full day of play and unforgettable meetings, you can sleep comfortably in a chalet right by the park. Welcome! 3 A strid Lindgren’s World is not one but many worlds. In one and the same day you can visit Villekulla Cottage, Katthult, Matt’s Forest, Wild Rose Valley and many other places from Astrid Lindgren’s books. Here you are free to play inside the buildings and in the surrounding settings, as long as there isn’t a performance going on. Performances linked to the different places are at set times of the day. In between, you can meet Pippi Longstocking, That Emil, Mardie, Karlsson on the Roof and all the others who like to join in the play. The park also has places just for play, like a barn with hay to jump in, houses on a child-friendly scale and a ‘don’t-touchthe-ground trail’ to put your balance to the test. This is why the theme that runs like a red thread throughout Astrid Lindgren’s World is play. As well as the settings from the books, there are lots of places created just for play, indoors and under cover. Here you can balance on things, jump between stones, cross the water on a pull-along raft and much more. This is a place created to allow children to discover Astrid Lindgren’s story treasure through play. 7 The largest open-air Theatre in Sweden I f you haven’t read Astrid Lindgren’s books, you may still have seen one of the films or heard the music. Seeing well-known scenes from Astrid Lindgren’s stories performed before your eyes and hearing the classic songs sung by Pippi, Emil, Alfred and all the others are an important part of the experience at Astrid Lindgren’s World. Our theatre programme is planned to ensure there is always something for all ages to see. And when the performances are over, the children can meet the characters in their settings. 8 Illustration © Ingrid Vang Nyman / Saltkråkan AB EVERYTHING YOU CAN WATCH ON OUR STAGES IN DAYTIME IS INCLUDED IN THE ADMISSION. If you bring your own food, there are many nice places for you to enjoy it in. There are several picnic areas in the park as well as a few proper barbecue areas. Coal for the barbecues is available at the nearest point of sale. n a place with such wonderful stories, you should naturally also expect to be served wonderful food. In our restaurants, we cook all our food from scratch in our own kitchens and use mostly local raw produce. The menus have been produced in partnership with one of Sweden’s leading chefs, Fredrik Eriksson from Långbro Värdshus. Here you will find hearty Småland fare such as ‘isterband’ (coarsely-ground smoked sausage) and potatoes in white sauce, ‘kroppkakor’ (potato dumplings) and bacon with potato pancakes. But there are also meatballs with mashed potatoes, pancakes and much more. 10 Illustration © Ingrid Vang Nyman / Saltkråkan AB I New!
