Athletics Program November - December 2010 Youth Winter Basketball The leaves are changing, days are getting shorter, and there’s a chill in the air; which can only mean one thing: its basketball time in Morrisville! Practices are set to begin in December for our six youth basketball leagues for boys and girls ages 5-12, and games will begin in January. Four of the leagues will practice/play games at Cedar Fork Community Center (Gnats, Termite Girls, Termite Boys and Small Fry Boys). Two of the leagues will practice/play games at Davis Drive Middle School (Small Fry Girls and Mite Boys). Between the two sites we have the capacity for 720 participants this winter, so it will definitely be a busy time for the Athletics division! We are proud to say that all six of our Gym Supervisors are back again for another year of hoops, so we look forward to our experienced staff being able to assist our parents & coaches with any issues that might arise during the course of the season. In addition, we are also pleased to welcome our new Athletics Specialist, Bryan Rhea, into the mix for this season. Bryan comes to the Department from Durham Parks and Recreation where he spent numerous years as an Aquatics and Recreation Center Supervisor, so please feel free to introduce yourself to Bryan or any member of our staff if the opportunity presents itself. We look forward to another terrific basketball season and to serving the citizens of the Town of Morrisville to the very best of our ability! Staff Spotlight: Nick Jaksa! I am originally from Grand Ledge MI. I played baseball and football in HS, and tied for the lead in HR’s for state of Michigan in 2000. I am a graduate of UNC-Asheville in 04, with a degree in History. I played baseball at UNCA and in the Frontier League in 05. I then coached baseball at Blue Ridge CC in 06, University of Evansville in 07, and Wofford College in 08. After that I coached the Morganton Aggies of the Southern Collegiate League, won 2007 championship! I have worked as a superintendent with Habitat for Humanity since 2008.
