With an increasing demand for the Cassville YMCA, a new facility plan is in the works with ground-breaking optimally happening next year. After a community meeting last Tuesday, November 3, the YMCA and a group of community partners are making plans for a bigger facility to meet the community’s changing needs. Dove Haney, Cassville YMCA Center Executive, said that almost 180 people showed up on Tuesday to voice their opinions on how to make the local YMCA better. She said, “It was awesome. I was really proud of how many people came out. It really drove home the point of a bigger or a new facility for Cassville.” Currently, the Cassville YMCA offers up sports programs, an exercise area, different classes, after-school child New charges filed for Washburn murders "Like" the Advertiser on Facebook The Barry County Advertiser is now on Facebook. It is a lot of activity for the small space that they currently have. Haney said, “At certain times of day, we are maxed out at our capacity. There are a lot of programs that we would like to offer that we just can’t because we’re so limited on space.” She said the issues boil down to one thing: space. “We need to expand so that we can better serve the community,” Haney stated. Currently, it is unknown where the new facility will be or when it will be completed. The surveys that both YMCA and community members filled out will help them determine what features the new facility will have to meet needs. The surveys included questions about what areas people currently utilize most, what they would like to see and what would cause them to join the YMCA if they aren’t already members. Some of the suggestions made in surveys included a bigger exercise area with more equipment, a ninja warrior training course, an indoor Charlea Mills A Monett man was arrested this week on three different charges for allegedly having sex with an underage child. Moore filed an amended felony complaint against Paschall on October 26 which added two charges. Haney said they will, “work on the design of the community center designed expressly for the needs of our community.” Currently, multiple location sites are being discussed, but no location has been chosen. Haney said that one thing they are taking into consideration with a new location is the proximity to the schools. She said, “We have a lot of kids who walk here after school, and crossing [MO] 248 is dangerous. So we are hoping to find somewhere more centrally located.” As the project progresses, more information will be released. The current YMCA location is on MO 248. Especially during November, Operation Christmas Child is moving into high gear while Cassville-area volunteers prepare to collect hundreds of gift-filled shoeboxes during National Collection Week, Nov. 16 through 23. Anyone can drop off a gift-filled shoebox to send to a child overseas. On arrival, using whatever means necessary, trucks, trains, boats, bikes, and even elephants and camels, the shoebox gifts will then be hand-delivered to children worldwide. For many children, this shoebox gift will be the first gift they have ever received. Gifts can be dropped off at the First Baptist Church in Cassville at 602 West Street Monday through Sunday, Nov. 16 through 22, from noon to 5 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 23, from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, call (417) 8472965. Empty shoeboxes can be picked up at First Baptist Cassville, along with a list of gift ideas for boys and girls. Though the shoebox gifts will often travel thousands of miles, using special tracking technology, participants can follow their boxes online and discover the country to which their gifts will be delivered to children in need. To register a shoebox gift, use the online donation form at samaritanspurse.org. Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 124 million shoebox gifts to children in more than 150 countries since 1993, and hopes to collect another 11 million gift-filled shoeboxes in 2015. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. For more information about how to participate in Operation Christmas Child, call 417-847-2965 or visit samaritanspurse.org. Moore has since added an additional murder in the first degree charge, two counts of armed criminal action, and parental kidnapping. The assault charge has been dropped. On Monday, January 5, Paschall, 37, of Springdale, Ark., allegedly showed up at Townsend’s home where he shot and killed Brace, 29, and Townsend and kidnapped two-year old Alli Paschall. Later that day, Paschall was taken into custody in Springdale, Ark., by law enforcement without incident, and Alli was found safe. Alli has since been placed in custody of family members. Brace left behind two older children, as well. Paschall is still being held in Arkansas where he was arrested, waiting extradition to Missouri after his charges are settled in Arkansas. His charges in Arkansas include possession of a firearm by certain persons prohibited, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft by receiving, and violating terms of a prior bond. Until Paschall’s charges are resolved in Arkansas, he will not appear in court for the murders. In Barry County, Paschall is now charged with two counts of murder in the first degree, two counts of armed criminal action, and parental kidnapping. Each day, Kim said they seem to get more bad news. Due to how caustic the antifungal is, Jim’s kidneys are shutting down. The fungus has eaten away at his sinus cavity, his eye socket, and now his brain. Kim said, “The Chief medical doctor here is talking to the Mayo Clinic and the other places who have done these studies on it. There are other treatments, but they say they won’t reach the brain.” In the meantime, Kim, the main breadwinner for their family, is unable to work either of her two jobs as a registered nurse, and the family is struggling. To help out, community members created a bank account for people to support them. Kim’s mother, Sandy Edwards, said, “We really appreciate how everyone is helping. This account has been the only way to help them pay their bills while Kim is up there unable to work.” Jim has been married to Kim for 24 years, and they have three daughters together, Lindsey, 23, Lauren, 16, and Leslie, 12, and one grandson, Bryar. CrisisGo is a mobile emergency application which will send a message to school staff members’ phones, tablets or laptops in the event of an emergency. “Our number one concern is keeping our students and staff safe at all times,” stated Richard Asbill, Cassville School District Su- perintendent. “Our crisis management plans are fully developed and up-to-date and our staff is prepared to respond in the case of a crisis; however, our plans are pages long and CrisisGo is tailored to make emergency response information easily accessible in a quick manner.” CrisisGo gives administrators and teachers a twoway communication platform and securely stores important emergency pre- paredness plans and information such as checklists, class rosters, call lists and building maps. “It will streamline each response with the pieces everyone needs in the event of a specific emergency. For instance, in the case of an emergency, a teacher would receive a message with stepby-step instructions on how he or she should respond to the crisis at hand,” stated Asbill. Les Jacobs donates to Central Crossing seniors Purdy Principals Janet Boys (K-6) and Matt Gower (7-12) announced the September Students of the Month. Each month, the middle school core class teachers nominate one student from each grade level, fifth through eighth. September’s winners are pictured from left to right: Alli Hayes, fifth grade; Robyn Schad, sixth grade; Tatum Burt, seventh grade; and Grace Robertson, eighth grade. We’ll Take The FAX! More than 1,100 FCCLA members, advisors, and chaperones attended the conference. FCCLA students were able to choose from a variety of different sessions. Sunday sessions included trainings on professionalism, networking, fundraising, careers, and communication. Monday sessions included trainings for new members, chapter officers, regional officers, and general leadership training. Trainings were performed by professional speakers from TRI Leadership Resources as well as Missouri FCCLA State Officers. Members were inspired to help others and be a positive leader. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members. It is the only Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in FCCLA programs and activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities. The following Cassville FCCLA members attended the conference.
