F
ollowing the theme of "struggle" that constantly arises in this year's Cycle B reading
series, the struggle in this weekend's readings
is the very human discomfort in facing death. The first
reading tells us that God didn't make us for death but for
eternal life simply because God is "just" (which in biblical wisdom literature is a synonym for "faithful,") and if
God is eternal, then God is eternally "faithful," and so
we are made to be in relationship with Him eternally.
The author goes on to blame death on the wicked, who,
instead of acting in accord with justice, live unjustly and
so, prefer "finitude" and what they can "get and amass"
here, instead of wanting eternity with God. Hmmm.
Maybe God will find a way to be "faithful" even to
them! We can dare to have that hope as we look at the
Gospel where we see two close "brushes with death,"
and how Jesus (God) brings life out of death-dealing
situations. In the second reading, Paul, in "good Catholic form," is writing about a "collection of money" for
the poor and starving in Jerusalem...another way of
"staving off death" is to provide the hungry with food.
All these readings assure us that God is guiding us to
eternity--death is not something to fear--and that we
have in our power to make life, on this side of death, so
much more bearable for so many if we could only find it
in our hearts to be more generous.
- Fr. Bill Axe
corazones.

“I am a mission on this earth; that is the reason
why I am here in this world" (273).
- Pope Francis in Joy of the Gospel
“Something amazing happens when we surrender and just love. We melt into another world, a
realm of power already within us. The world
changes when we change. The world softens
when we soften. The world loves us when we
choose to love the world."
- Marianne Williamson in A Return to Love
To build and foster a Christian Community that
offers the opportunity to experience God’s unconditional love and acceptance to all who come into
contact with it.
W
e are so blessed to have a God who
loves us so much that he came upon
this earth to steer us straight. There
were so many laws about impurity and untouchables
that many people were excluded from society. We hear
in today's readings how Christ changed all of that. No
one was unclean or untouchable, Christ used his power
to heal and transform lives. It seems like we have lost
that image of God in our society. Shouldn't we be transforming lives instead of condemning? Who do you
know in your circle of friends who feels unwelcome?
Can you reach out to that person and be Christ to them?
Be Jesus to them!!
I will be out of the Parish for around six weeks starting
on Monday as I am having foot surgery. I won't be able
to stand on my foot for six weeks. You will all be in my
thoughts and prayers as I am healing. Please keep me in
yours as well.
Have a blessed week,
Sr. Karen Collier

pueda. Ustedes estarán en mis pensamientos y oraciones mientras me recupero. Por favor de recordarme en
las suyas también.
Que tengan una semana bendita,
Hermana Karen Collier

Financial Report on Parish Festival 2015
Reporte Financiero del Festival 2015
We are proud to say that our Festival achieved Revenue
greater than Expenses to produce net income of
$38,132.38. The regular Parish revenue from collections,
contributions, rent from school & hall and the various fund
raisers do not provide sufficient money to pay for all the
costs to operate the parish. Consequently, we are very
happy with the impressive financial contribution of the
Festival towards meeting Parish expenses. Congratulations
and a hearty THANK YOU to all who contributed their
talent, time, energy and money to achieve the good results!
May God bless you!
We will provide a more detailed annual financial report in
August or September.
