Poland 2016 / Invitation
An invitation to participate
in the World University Shooting Sport Championship
in Bydgoszcz
It is with great pleasure that we received the news of our city having been selected
the host of the World University Shooting Sport Championship.
Sporting events organized in Bydgoszcz, and there are many in our city’s busy calendar
each year, always carry the promise of great fun and excitement. Nonetheless, they
also pose a great challenge, as we strive to provide visitors and participants with the highest
organizational standards. Things will not be any different this September, but the combined
forces of Kazimierz Wielki University’s Sports Association and the Zawisza Sports Club
of Bydgoszcz will no doubt ensure the highest level of organization.
What will be awaiting you here in Bydgoszcz – excellent young shooters – enthusiastic fans,
traditional Polish hospitality, and interesting national cuisine – but above all else,
here you will experience the unique atmosphere of the city, where masters of sport feel truly
welcome. All this will help you to achieve the desired results in your competitions.
May Bydgoszcz be a city where your dreams are fulfilled.
You are hereby warmly invited to come here – we hope to see you in September!
Best regards,
Rafał Bruski
The President of Bydgoszcz

Bydgoszcz
Bydgoszcz - the capital of the KujawskoPomorskie voivodeship, a city with three state
universities and other universities and colleges.
Since the time the city was granted municipal
rights by king Casmir the Great in 1346, it has
grown to the rank of a dynamically developing
economic centre. Bydgoszcz is a city located in
northern Poland, on the Brda and Vistula rivers.
With a citypopulation of 358,614 (June 2014),
and an urban agglomeration with more than
470,000 inhabitants, Bydgoszcz is the 8th-largest
city in Poland. It has been the seat of Bydgoszcz
County and the co-capital, with Toruń, of the
Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship since 1999.
Bydgoszcz is the seat of Kazimierz Wielki
University, University of Technology and Life
Sciences and a conservatory, as well
as a Collegium Medicum of Nicolaus Copernicus
University in Toruń. Bydgoszcz hosts the
Filharmonia Pomorska concert hall, the Opera
Nova opera house, and the Bydgoszcz Ignacy
Jan Paderewski Airport.
Due to its location between the Vistula and
Odra rivers, and the water course of the
Bydgoszcz Canal, the city forms part of a water
system connected via the Noteć, Warta, Odra.
Wyspa Młyńska (Mill Island) is among the most
spectacular and atmospheric places
in Bydgoszcz. What makes it unique is the
location in the very heart of the city centre,
just a few steps from the Old Market Square.
It was the ‘industrial’ centre of Bydgoszcz
in the Middle Ages and for several hundred years
thereafter, and it was here that the famous royal
mint operated in the 17th century. Most of the
buildings which can still be seen on the island
date from the 19th century, but the so-called
Biały Spichlerz (the White Granary) recalls
the end of the 18th century. However, it is the
water, footbridges, historic red-brick tenement
houses reflected in the rivers, and the greenery,
including old chestnut trees, that create the
unique atmosphere of the island.
