Best regards, Rafał Bruski The President of Bydgoszcz 3 The Republic of Poland is a country located in Central Europe, bordered by Germany to the west; the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south; Ukraine and Belarus to the east; and the Baltic Sea. The total area of Poland is 312,679 square kilometres (120,726 sq mi). With a population of over 38.5 million people, Poland is the 34th most populous country in the world, the 8th most populous country in Europe and the sixth most populous member of the European Union, as well as the most populous post-communist member of the European Union. Official name – Poland Political System – Parliamentary republic Launguage - Polish Capital – Warsaw Area – 312,679 square kilometres Populations - 38.5 million people Currency – Złoty (PLN) Calling code - +48 Poland 4 Bydgoszcz Bydgoszcz - the capital of the KujawskoPomorskie voivodeship, a city with three state universities and other universities and colleges. Since the time the city was granted municipal rights by king Casmir the Great in 1346, it has grown to the rank of a dynamically developing economic centre. Bydgoszcz is a city located in northern Poland, on the Brda and Vistula rivers. With a citypopulation of 358,614 (June 2014), and an urban agglomeration with more than 470,000 inhabitants, Bydgoszcz is the 8th-largest city in Poland. It has been the seat of Bydgoszcz County and the co-capital, with Toruń, of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship since 1999. Bydgoszcz is the seat of Kazimierz Wielki University, University of Technology and Life Sciences and a conservatory, as well as a Collegium Medicum of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Bydgoszcz hosts the Filharmonia Pomorska concert hall, the Opera Nova opera house, and the Bydgoszcz Ignacy Jan Paderewski Airport. Due to its location between the Vistula and Odra rivers, and the water course of the Bydgoszcz Canal, the city forms part of a water system connected via the Noteć, Warta, Odra. Wyspa Młyńska (Mill Island) is among the most spectacular and atmospheric places in Bydgoszcz. What makes it unique is the location in the very heart of the city centre, just a few steps from the Old Market Square. It was the ‘industrial’ centre of Bydgoszcz in the Middle Ages and for several hundred years thereafter, and it was here that the famous royal mint operated in the 17th century. Most of the buildings which can still be seen on the island date from the 19th century, but the so-called Biały Spichlerz (the White Granary) recalls the end of the 18th century. However, it is the water, footbridges, historic red-brick tenement houses reflected in the rivers, and the greenery, including old chestnut trees, that create the unique atmosphere of the island. & 5 Kazimierz Wielki University Founded in 1969 Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz is a dynamically developing school of higher education, today the largest in the city and the second largest in the KujawskoPomorskie Province, both as for number of professors, number of majors and educational forms offered and the number of students and graduates. Over the last few years our University has offered education to about 5 thousand newly admitted students annually. Over 700 academic staff members share their knowledge, including about 150 professors. Today a rich educational range of studies covers 30 majors at three levels: bachelor and bachelor in engineering, master and doctoral studies. The university also provides over 30 postgraduate courses, developing qualifications and conferring new rights. 6 Airports Bydgoszcz Ignacy Paderewski Airport is a Polish regional airport in the city of Bydgoszcz, Poland.
