Dunn-DuHart C H A P L A I N ’ S C O R N E R THE COUNTY JAIL MY DAD THE COP A LOT GOES ON BEHIND THESE WALLS -WE SEE A LOT WE SEE IT ALL. THOUGH THE PAY ISN’T MUCH WE DO THE JOB WE ARE A SELECTED BUNCH. (This poem is written about a dad but it is not gender unique, it can be transposed to a mom.) I shine the badge that dad pins to his chest I kiss my dad goodbye and wish him the best ‘Cause I never know if he will return today All I can do is to wait and pray. WE MEET IN BRIEFING AND THEN GO TO WORK WE DON’T STRAP ON GUNS JUST OUR BADGE AND OUR SHIRTS. WE DO CARRY A SET OF HAND CUFFS, OR TWO MAYBE AN ASP BATON, A MOTOROLA, TOO. You see my dad, he is a cop Drive a car with lights on top I am so proud of what he does I hope someday I'll fill his shoes. OUR JOB GOES UNNOTICED BEHIND THESE WALLS WE ARE COUNSELORS AND NURSES AND WE ENFORCE THE LAW But one thing that I do everyday Is put a flower in the window tray When my dad come home at night I hide the flower out of sight. THE ONES ARRESTED ON THE STREETS -THE MURDERERS THE MOLESTERS EVEN THE FREAKS. THEY ALL COME IN THROUGH OUR DOORS -WE WATCH THEM WE FEED THEM WE MAKE SURE THEY MAKE COURT. WE ARE MEN AND WOMEN WHO DO THE JOB WHEN WE PUT ON THE BADGE WE ARE THE LAW SO NEXT TIME YOU READ THE PAPER AND SEE A MAN OR WOMEN BEHIND BARS REMEMBER ME -- THE HONEST JAIL DEPUTY. I do not want him to know The fear that I do not show I need to be brave and strong Knowing the different of right and wrong. My dad is my world to me To live without him cannot be I know being a cop has it danger Cause most of people he sees are stranger. But All I can do is to hope and pray That he'll come home at the end of the day. -- Sweet Pea -- JOHN NESBITT We Salute our 2011 Scholarship Recipients: ` Fulton County FOP Lodge #64 awards two (2) $1,000 scholarships, per year.
