(objavljeno u 85. izdanju) PRIMARY SCHOOL “SVETI SAVA” IN MITROVICA A school bell rang... causing children’s noise in the corridors. Oh what a wonderful feeling it is to be back in school! Inner walls contain various pictures, songs and works of art of this school’s children. At that moment I thought how nice it is to be a child, to have a carefree and happy childhood with a healthy family and good teachers, who are our main guides to the future: “you will reap what you’ve sewn” was something we were taught by our old teachers. Indeed, it is so: how much you study, you will know so much, how ambitious you are, that is how much you will succeed. My thoughts have been interrupted by the kind voice of the director Andrija Vukomanovic, whom I waited for in the hallway of the primary school “Sveti Sava” in Mitrovica: “Miss, this is our school, a school with tradition. It only produces talents, who later expand their knowledge in secondary schools and colleges, where they achieve best results,” he said. (objavljeno u 87. izdanju) ELEMENTARY SCHOOL “JOVAN CVIJIC” IN ZUBIN POTOK Walking along the school yard always reminds us of beautiful, healthy and happy days, of the first school-crushes, of holding hands... and various school-organised events, which the children always so eagerly await. And, while you walk quickly, so as not to be late for an already 4 for you GIMNAZIJA “GNJILANE” U ŠILOVU Dragi |aci, pred vama je jo{ jedna {kolska godina, u kojoj vam pre svega `elimo dobro zdravlje i odli~an uspeh. Mi }emo se kao i do sada, dru`iti sa vama, tako {to } emo objavljivati va{a pisma, scheduled interview, with your hands full of some symbolic gifts for the children, a camera and a bag in hand, you do not notice how all these kids are curiously looking at you, nudging and whispering to each other: “Are we going to be photographed today?!” Eh, it would be nice if we could take a photo of all of them, and to publish it in our magazine. As you enter the school, you see so many beautiful young children in the one place; you feel the positive atmosphere, which certainly affects the performance of teachers. Countless numbers of beautiful drawings, models, items made by the hands of hard working pupils, are on all sides of the main corridor of the elementary school “Jovan Cvijic” in Zubin Potok. From the distance we are approached by the school psychologist Ivana Vukajlovic who cordially shows us into her office, for which she says that it is always open to students and parents alike. Upon the recommendation of the School Director Vukadin Vlaskovic, she is the one who will give us some general information about the school, students, teachers and working conditions. (objavljeno u 89. izdanju) GIMNASIUM “GNJILANE” IN SILOVO Dear pupils, yet another school year is ahead of us, in which we firstly wish you good health and great success. As before, we will hang out with you by publishing your letters, opinions and interviews. Even your smallest contribution is very much needed among us, because it makes our magazine „great“. The practice in this column is to present you the school of the month, which now is the gymnasium “Gnjilane” (of the natural sciences and the socio-linguistic course) in Silovo. Hearty welcome of the school director, Mr. Zoran Stojanovic, has made us understand why the students were very cooperative and polite in cooperation with us during each of our visits. They are led by a superb team of professors and pedagogues, of course, under the conductor’s „wand“ of Director Stojanovic, who openly spoke with us about the work, difficulties, successes and failures in the school. (published in issue 89) ELEMENTARY SCHOOL “KRALJ MILUTIN” IN GRACANICA Wherever and whenever you mention Gračanica, first thought goes to the Gračanica monastery, church built in the year of 1321 by King Milutin, according to whom this elementary school in the municipality of the same name, now bears his name. The district of the Monastery once had a convent school, which is an information that indicates us how old the education of the Serbian people in this part of Kosovo is. Tradition of literacy has been continued, by moving it from the church school into another school building, where it once operated as a fouryear school, in order to later become the eight-year one, one of the oldest Serbian schools in this area. This school with rich history now has about 600 students, and 79 workers from Gračanica and nearby places. And, already for 24 years, the school’s director is Mr. Gligorije Stojanović, a biology teacher by profession. (objavljeno u 91. izdanju) PRIMARY SCHOOL “LEPOSAVIC” The sound of a school bell always reminds one of their beautiful school days and carefree childhood. A school playground overflowing with excited children always brings the “eh, if I could only go back to school” thought to mind. All of us, when we were young and immature, made lapses in our studies, which came back to us like a boomerang, this was confirmed by Krstivoje Radosavljevic, the headmaster of the “Leposavic” Primary School in Leposavic. “In the past, our generation did have such good conditions and resources for studying, as is the case today. That is why I always give advice to youngsters to study as many foreign languages as they can, which automatically creates greater chances for a better job and a better life”, headmaster Krstivoje told us, who is a physics teacher by profession. (objavljeno u 60. izdanju) TOLERATE ME... Tolerance is respect, acceptance and appreciation of the rich diversity of our world’s cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human. It is fostered by knowledge, openness, communication and freedom of thought, conscience and belief. Tolerance is harmony in difference. It is not only a moral duty, it is also a political and legal requirement. Tolerance, the virtue that makes peace possible, contributes to the replacement of the culture of war by a culture of peace. This is how the United Nations are talking about tolerance in the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance. This Declaration was proclaimed and signed by member states of UNESCO on 16th Nov 1995. Oversized sunglasses are a style of retro sunglasses which originally became popular in the 1970s, overtaking the cateye sunglasses which were popular in the 1960s. Vintage O designer sunglasses with oversized frames and bug-eye lenses remained popular in the 1980s and 1990s particularly with celebrities. Celebrities who get swarmed by the media paparazzi typically don these oversized sunglasses so that they can slip by in crowds unnoticed. The lenses cover a very wide portion of the face and can help to conceal a celebrity’s identity. Even though that practical value isn’t really applicable to most of us, the wearing of large oversized sunglasses can provide the rest of us with an added benefit - the “star look.” (published in issue 89) Glittering dresses f you want all attention centered at you just go for one of glittering dresses designers provided in plenty for Summer 2012. The reason for this meeting has its origins almost a decade ago when KFOR built a much needed transit route between two regional roads, Peja/Pec - Prishtina/Pristina and Peja/ Pec - Decan/Decane. However, the lack of proper laws and governing institutions led to a situation in which the road was built but the villagers were never compensated for their land. Unfortunately this remains the case today, and the villagers felt that their only way of getting attention regarding this matter was to block the road until their requests for the land refund were met. Below you can read what LTC Stark had to say to our magazine: • Could you please tell us what does regional responsibility mean in concrete terms for JRD duties? What it means is that there has komandanta KFOR-a, omogu}avaju}i da se odluke mogu donositi u skladu sa potrebama i de{avanjima na terenu. But the greatest achievement of all is the fact that during the entire time, this continuous commitment of the LMTs in JRD-N has helped in the elimination of rumours. This ensured that only accurate information is presented to the KFOR Commander, thus making sure that the decision making is compatible with the needs and the developments on the field. It’s as if they owned the key to living in peace and harmony with each other. Whatever their secret was, one thing is certain, the Egyptian society was aware of the importance of harmony in maintaining such a vast empire. But what does it mean to live in harmony? (published in issue 87) CHILDREN’S RIGHTS What exactly children’s rights are, has been one of the oldest debates around. One of the first publications on children’s rights is the “Rights of Infants” by Thomas Spence, which dates back to 1796. The objections to these rights are also ages old, some of them dating back to the 13th century. (published in issue 88) INVISIBLE WALLS The main wish of all the parents is to be able to teach, educate and prepare their children as best as possible for the future. Therefore, every single day they talk to their children trying to pass all their knowledge and experience to them. But, it is surprising how often parents forget that the best teacher and the most influential are the actions and the attitude of parents themselves. This means that despite all the good words and advises the parents forget that their behaviour involuntarily leads to the creation of invisible walls in the mind and spirits of their children. These are walls that with time become almost impassable. (published in issue 89) EDUCATION – THE ONLY ROAD TOWARDS PROGRESS The development of culture and humanity for our species depends on the passing of knowledge and experience from one generation to the next. This was a process of verbal communication and was developed in the form of stories. Over time and the social development that followed, societies began to develop activities such as trade, extensive communication, religious practices, etc. Very soon these practices were followed by the organization of education and of teaching. Consequently, the first forms of this education began in old Egypt between the years 3000 and 500 BC. (published in issue 90) for you 25 Upitnik DA LI VI[E VOLI[ DA GLEDA[ TV ILI DA SLU[A[ RADIO? Ve}ina ljudi sada vi{e brine o svojoj lepoti nego o obrazovanju.
