Me|uljudski odnosi su odli~ni, jer postoji dobra komunikacija kako me|u nastavnicima i direktorom, tako i roditeljima i u~enicima. Danas je bez obrazovanja i lepog vaspitanja te{ko biti uspe{an u bilo ~emu“. school of the month Primary school “Sarski odred” in Strpce PRIMARY SCHOOL „SARSKI ODRED“ IN STRPCE D ear students, we hope that you had a good rest, and that you’ve spent the New Year’s holidays in peace and prosperity. Also, we hope that you have read some school reading during the holidays, perhaps even practiced homework, in order to better prepare for new challenges in the second half of the school year. Many of you are probably eager to set eyes on our magazine and find out which school we have presented in the January edition. Of course, we are honoured to you introduce you to one new school in Kosovo in each edition. This time, we decided to go to Strpce, more precisely, we visited the village Jazince in which there is a primary school “Sarski odred” (Sara Mountain Detachment). We had the pleasure to talk with some of the students, whom you can meet in our section questionnaire, as well as with the school principal, Mr. Slobodan Pavletovic (a certified physical education teacher). Expirence equals capability With him we talked about all the challenges that this school, which normally has two departments, in Vrbestica and Sevce, meets. “For 20 years I worked as a teacher and I can say with great pleasure that I know the kids, parents, teachers, and all that is related to a school. In order to be a good director, you need to have a lot of experience, and it is not easy to be a director for the one who wants to be responsible. To be honest, for me this school is in the first place and my own home in the second.” According to him, the school has 380 students and 80 employees, including the support staff. Interpersonal relationships are great, because there is good communication between both the teachers and the principal, and parents and students. “To be a successful person who is at such a responsible position, you need to have a versatile personality who has a lot of sympathy for the children, employees, parents, and all others who live in this environment. We are nevertheless a multiethnic environment, and we have to respect and understand each other so that everything would function as it should. Simply, communication is crucial, and we need to communicate with all those who wish well to our school.” Humanitarian work makes person better That the director has a versatile personality is evidenced by the fact that for years he worked as a lifeguard at the Ski centre “Brezovica”, which is a humane profession and it certainly can serve as a good example to all youth. However, he praised to us that children are interested in sport, and that many of them are members of several sports clubs located in Strpce. What the director and employees of the school are particularly concerned with working conditions which would certainly use some improvement. E.g. they need a sports hall in Vrbestica and Jazince in order to have physical education classes undisturbed even during the winter time. The school building in Vrbestica is leaking and needs renovation. “Somehow we manage, we work in modest conditions, but it can always be better. We give our utmost to provide our students with the very best. And parents are always there to help, they are interested in school and everything related to it. We hope to be able to bring the school into the best order, concerning sports equipment, cabinets and everything else needed for work and improvement of conditions. “ Message to the youth In the end, the director of the elementary school “Sarski odred” in Strpce, Slobodan Pavletovic, said to young people in Kosovo the following: “Primary school is the foundation for future education; it is the basis for the development of every person and society as a whole. Educate yourself because education is the key to success, and be respectful, honest and good people. Today is hard to be successful at anything without education and good manners.” Nedavno sam ušla u jednu prodavnicu kada me je poznanica zapitala šta radim i kako sam. Nasmejala sam se i objasnila joj o ~emu 6 for you se radi. Samim tim, medijacija ima sve bitne karakteristike procesa rešavanja problema: -definisanje problema, -izlistavanje mogu}ih rešenja, -izbor rešenja, -donošenje odluke, -sprovo|enje odluke i -procena uspešnosti odluke/rešenja. Programi u zajednicama obi~no pru`aju usluge posredovanja u sporovima izme|u stanodavaca i podstanara, ~lanova udru`enja ku}e vlasnika i izme|u malih preduze}a i potroša~a. Izvor : http://en.vikipedia.org/viki/ Mediation Apparently, she thought it was a meditation. I laughed and explained to her what it is about. Thinking about this “chance” meeting, I came up with the idea to write an article and inform people in my surroundings on what mediation is. So, mediation is a way of resolving conflicts and overcoming misunderstandings in which appears a third (neutral) side/s (mediator/s) who “by talking to an agreement,” which is the motto of our organization, manage to calm the tense situation and resolve conflict. The very purpose of mediation, as a means to resolve a conflict in a nonviolent way, is to approach a problem or conflict in a constructive way and come to a mutual decision about which there is agreement on both sides (who are in conflict). Thus, mediation has all the essential features of the process of problem solving: A mediator helps solving problems P eople often come in conflict: in their neighborhood because of the parking or noise, in the office because of the common interest, even in your own family sometimes; the list is almost endless. The best outcome will be to find a way to resolve these issues and still be able to live and work with those people. And, if two parties cannot find a solution, then they need a third party, the mediator – a person that will negotiate. Recently, we received an article from Aleksandra, a young girl from Mitrovica North. She wanted to explain to her peers how she understands mediation and also to give a message that mediation is one of the best tools in maintaining the confidence between the parties. MEDIATION (WHAT IS IT?) Recently, I walked into a store when an acquaintance asked me what I was doing and how I am. I said that I was coming back from “mediation”. She asked me where it is so that she could join me and “relax”. • defining the problem, • listing of possible solutions, • choice of solution, • decision making, • implementation of the decision and, • estimate of the efficiency of decision/ solution. In addition, there are also skills without which mediation would not be successful, and they are: • skill of active listening • skill to express your needs without blaming, criticizing, and labelling others • negotiation skill through which the process is directed to the positive outcome with the reestablishment of trust • procedures and rules which introduce order into the behaviour and relationships between the parties in the mediation process Every mediator should have all of these skills to successfully implement the mediation process. If you would like to join us or to learn more, come to the Mediation Centre for Youth in North Mitrovica. We also expect your questions and comments on our Facebook page, “The Mediation Centre for Youth North Mitrovica”. After all, you can always come and help others to “relax”, helping them to resolve a conflict, and consequently, your confidence will grow and you will feel good, and I can describe this feeling for you, you have to experience it. Aleksandra Lazarevic 3rd year - Gymnasium, North Mitrovica Peer Mediation A peer mediator is one who resembles the disputants, such as being of similar age, attending the same school or having similar status in a business. Purportedly, peers can better relate to the disputants than an outsider. Peer mediation promotes social cohesion and aids development of protective factors that create positive school climates. According to the statistics, peer mediation helped reduce crime in schools, saved counselor and administrator time, enhanced self-esteem, improved attendance and encouraged development of leadership and problem-solving skills among the students. Community Mediation Disputes involving neighbors often have no official resolution mechanism. Community mediation centers generally focus on neighborhood conflict, with trained local volunteers serving as mediators. Such organizations often serve populations that cannot afford to utilize the courts or professional Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) providers. Community programs typically provide mediation for disputes between landlords and tenants, members of homeowners associations and small businesses and consumers. Many community programs offer their services for free or at a nominal fee. In the Weitzman’s winter collection the high boots of all shades of gray are very well worth your attention. However, Allen Shvarts has presented a line of top-notch cowboy booties with rivets of all colors. These booties will best match with: skinny jeans; warm dresses; long skirts; as well as with winter shorts. As you must have noticed, boots with flat soles are multipurpose and have to be found in every wardrobe as a pleasant alternative to high-heeled boots and treads. Boots decorated with zippers, bows and clenches are the best choice. You can buy an open-toe type for warm autumn or covered ones for cold winter. Ankle boots with high heels haven’t been off the podiums. Restrained models of classical style and black color are in fashion also during this winter. The boots of this kind are to put an accent onto the bright clothes. But those to whom this simple black style would seem too dull, can choose the ones with small-sized golden decorations. Pretty suede samples and rough rubberized boots have been introduced exceedingly higher and narrower. The designers have been keen on the militarization trend, that’s why both pretty suede samples and rough rubberized boots have been introduced to the customer. The treads are best worn with skirts and short dresses. The representatives of the female party who possess the gift of long legs are sure to long for a pair or two of stocking-like boots, the upper part of which almost reaches hips. The most extravagant tendencies concerning boots of the upcoming season Army boots can now be found in any women’s wardrobe. The fashion by itself develops and is spiral-like, so the tendencies repeat themselves every 10-15 years. No doubt may be left that customers will make high demands on the army-style shoe-wear. These boots, though rough and wide, but stylish at the same time, will match your skinny jeans or warm shorts just perfect. However, a skinny girl is greatly advised not to wear such kind of boots with a mini, as they will make her legs look even skinnier and much less attractive. You shouldn’t buy a pop version of designer army-type samples, because, in accordance with the most recent tendencies, the only item that should be used with such a pair as a decoration is shoe-laces. Cowboy shoes are back Cowboy shoes are back in fashion as well in winter 2015. The classical models have their special charm and will perfectly add up to the image of “a common teenage girl”, consisting of cowboy shirt and a pair of tight jeans. A bit of purl won’t spoil the picture either, but instead make it more authentic and feminine. Since the beginning of his solo career to Ruza vjetrova (Rose of Winds) Biography Osmi Putnik, Divlje Jagode, V2 Since 1985, Gibonni was a singer in the band Osmi putnik, and at the time his artistic nickname was Gibo. From Osmi putnik Stipisic went to the Bosnian heavy metal band Divlje jagode, where he remained for a year. From 1989 to 1990, Gibonni lived in Berlin. There he played with the band V2, with which he recorded the album Out to Launch. Solo career Gibonni’s music (a kind of mix of pop, folk and world music) is characterized by a unique, melancholic Mediterranean atmosphere and intimate lyricism. His songs have been performed by numerous famous Croatian artists, and won prestigious music awards at many music events. His musical roots are easy to find because his father, Ljubo Stipisic, is probably the most active archivist of Croatian Shortly after his first album called Sa mnom ili bez mene (With or without me) happened the turning point that changed his whole future career: Gibonni wrote the song Cesarica (Empress) for Oliver Dragojevic. He immediately became a sought songwriter whose songs have undoubtedly become big hits. On the album Nojeva arka (Noah’s Ark), in 1993, he included the songs Zlatne godine (Golden Years), which he wrote in collaboration with Zrinko Tutic for the movie of the same name, and Mi smo prvaci (We Are the Champions) which was declared the anthem of Croatian Olympic Federation. In the album were also the hits Nek se dete zove kao ja (Let the child be named after me), Dobri judi (Good People) and Tebe nisam bio vredan (I was not worthy of you). He performed independently with Bruno Kovacic, and then formed the group consisting of Bruno Kovacic, Renato Svorinic, Gordan Dorvak, Josip Andric and himself. With such a setup, Gibonni’s band recorded two albums: Kruna od perja (Crown of Feathers) in 1994, and Ruza vjetrova (Rose of Winds) in 1997. Although in this period Gibonni created his best songs (Dve duse or Two Souls, Ozdravi mi ti or Heal For Me, Zivot me umorio or Life Got Me Tired, Lipa moja or My Linden Tree, Ovo mi je skola or This Is a Lesson For Me, Tempera or Oil-colour, Ako me nosis na dusi or If You Bear Me as a Burden of Your Soul, Hej vapore or Hey Steamboat, Nije vrime od nedije za u poje poci or It Is Not Time to Go to Field Because of the Bad Weather), only after the breakup of the group and with the following albums comes the time for the first official recognitions in the form of awards. Thus begins a more commercial Gibonni’s phase which achieves a huge success among the broad masses and critics. Judi, zviri i bestimje Next Gibonni’s solo album Judi, zviri i bestimje or People, Animals and Beasts (Dallas Records) was released in February 1999 and it was at this time the best-selling album in Croatia and Slovenia winning 7 awards. He sang with Vanna (former member of the band E.T.) in the song Ja cu budan sanjati (I’ll daydream) and Oliver Dragojevic in the song U ljubav vjere nemam (In love I have no faith). Source: http://hr.wikipedia.org/ for you 11 V MALOLETNICKA DELIKVENCIJA Svest društva o nasilni~kom ponašanju u preduniverzitetskim obrazovnim ustanovama! Porodica (sistematsko nasilni~ko ponašanje roditelja, stroga disciplina, nizak nivo nadzora maloletnika, konstantno roditeljsko odbijanje inicijativa i kreativnosti maloletnika, itd.); 3. Socijalno-ekonomski uslovi (siromaštvo, bogatstvo); 4. Nedostatak kreativnosti i sportske rekreacije maloletnika; 5. JUVENILE DELINQUENCY Awareness of the society on violent behaviour in the pre-university educational institutions! S chool is a very fond word and a dream of every child. School is an institution that empowers, educates and develops our children, can often be remembered by children as a place where they have basically spent a “life” full of joy, good experiences and fun with their peers. However, this is not the opinion of other students, where the dream for school is not what they have dreamed of! It happens really often when many students remember the school as the place in which they have been subject to contempt, underestimation, mockery and even subject to terrible psycho-physical violence. Creating a safe environment for students, so that they do not fear violent and asocial behaviour is a relatively big challenge for the society and, above all, a basic condition for improving safety and quality of education in Kosovo. Lately, we have witnessed the emergence of different forms of violent behaviour in our society. We will try to simplify and explain in more detail so that we all better understand what “delinquency” means: Delinquency implies psychic phenomena that are manifested with the violation of moral and legal norms. Delinquency is a kind of behavior contrary to certain social norms. In addition, delinquent is called an individual who with his actions violates not only environmental norms but the rights and freedoms of the other and is in direct conflict with others. Delinquency involves children from puberty stage to the adolescence, namely children from 13 to 18 years old, who commit illegal-offensives. In our society, such individuals are usually those people who run away from schools, homes, steal, lie, and eventually abuse alcohol, exercise violent behavior toward their peers, and abuse drugs. According to the up-to-now experience, as well as based on the various analytical and scientific theories, one can come to the conclusion that the causes and the most common forms that encourage young people to fall into delinquency mainly are: 1. Transition – phase change – puberty (the feeling that “I am an independent now”); 2. Family (systematic violent behaviour of parents, strict discipline, low level of supervision of minors, constant rejection of initiatives and creativity of a minor by the parents, etc.); 3. Socio-economic conditions (poverty, wealth); 4. Lack of creativity and sports recreation by minors; 5. Isolation or rejection from the group (dismissal from the social circle, contempt, mockery, etc.). A relatively large number of cases of violence against students remains hidden or is not reported, although violence is present. Students are afraid or reluctant to file or report for two reasons: (1) because of fear or because of the relationship with the abuser (2) they do not consider violence as something wrong or unusual, but as a reasonable punishment for their actions or non-actions. Students who are victims of violence in school may feel “guilty” and could create the perception and belief that they deserve the violence exercised against them. In the past and present, various cultures and traditions use corporal punishment as a means to impose discipline and “education” of students or their subjection under rules of a particular group of students or individuals on school premises. Some of the possible symptoms through which, we as students have the opportunity to identify that our male or female friend is experiencing violent behaviour are: • Not wanting to go to school; • Weakness; • The bad mood reflected at home and at school; • Isolated from the social circle and conversation with peers; • Pretending to have a flu (this usually becomes a habit); • Verbal aggressive behaviour with male/ female friends or even parents at home; • Lack of hygiene (uncombed and uncut hair, uncut and unhygienic nails, dirty clothes); • Lack of academic results in school; • Do not be afraid, however, tell your parents, your teacher, any adult that you trust or even the police officer about what happened to you; • Try to stay in the company of someone like you, who is not very much impressed by the non-social behaviour; WHAT DO WE DO AS STUDENTS IF WE ARE WITNESSING VIOLENCE AGAINST ANOTHER STUDENT? First, you have to understand that violent behavior, mocking, humiliation and physical violence are not good for anyone, so if you see someone experiencing something like that: • Support – even if the student is not from your classroom; • Do not join the group that exerts violent behaviour; • Tell immediately what you have seen; • Try to bring close the person against whom the violent behaviour is exerted. Let us together prevent violent behaviours in schools by reporting them in very early stages! SAY NO TO VIOLENCE! WHAT DO WE DO IF WE ARE SUBJECT TO VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR? • Do not react to the same behaviour with the abuser, BUT leave the place as soon as possible; • Run away and remember that it is not your fault; for you 13 životinjsko carstvo S like mladunaca `ivotinja su jedna od najsla|e stvari koje se mogu na}i na Internetu. Me|utim, opet je timski rad me|u snagama za sprovo|enje zakona doveo do pokoravanja druge utvrde protestanata. Dok su oni demonstrirali svoje sposobnosti i preuzimali kontrolu nad tre}om barikadom, nebo je bilo ispunjeno bukom propelera helikoptera koji su se pribli`avali na nebu, dovoze}i 24 for you U slu~aju potrebe jedinica ‘carabinieri’ reaguje prva SILVER SABRE 2014 Still significant in numbers and great in professionalism and technology The third improvised barricade was the time when KFOR forces started to engage. The first to face the situation were the Italian “Carabinieri” units. While they were demonstrating their capabilities and taking control the third barricade, the sky was filled by the noise of the helicopter’s propellers that were approaching with American reinforcements. Relieving Soldiers in place cannot be hindered by heavy objects or even ‘Molotov’ cocktails that were thrown in a controlled manner by specialists in their use. However, their fires were quickly extinguished by the KFOR units. At this time on the ground, various motorized vehicles were arriving bringing in Hungarian, Portuguese and Slovenian units. Always ready to provide reinforcements “Silver Sabre” is the name of the exercise that was conducted in mid November 2014, during which the Kosovo Police, EULEX and KFOR demonstrated their capabilities in facing riots of any kind or size. When speaking of the KFORs capabilities the first thing that comes in one’s mind is how it can ensure a safe and secure environment for the people of Kosovo. The response to this question is very simple: PROFESSIONALISM! It was time to utilize the heavy motorized vehicles After pushing the protesters away from the fourth barricade, it was time to show that there is no barricade will hinder KFOR from ensuring freedom of movement. This is when the heavy motorized vehicles entered into action. First, the entire barricade was inspected by the EOD experts for any hidden explosives. In just a few seconds, the barricade was removed from the road with all the heavy objects that had been put in by the protesters. First things first Silver Sabre had a very simple concept: on one side were the protesters and on the other riot control forces. Both parties had prepared to create a realistic atmosphere. First, the realism of the exercise was very accurate. Another important element of the exercise was the integration of the Kosovo Police (KP) and then EULEX as first and second responders; in previous exercise this was not the case. Once the riot escalated to be outside of the control of the KP and EULEX, then KFOR elements would perform riot control as a third responders. KP utilized the many tools they had at their disposal: tear gas, water cannons, motorized vehicles to run through barricades, portable fire extinguishers etc. After the KP, it was EULEXs turn to intervene and demonstrate their skills. As expected the “protesters” were highly determined to face the law enforcement forces. However, again team work among law enforcement forces led to the submission of the second standpoint of protesters. There are no obstacles that cannot be overcome Good things come in pair After several hours of clashes between the protesters and the law enforcement forces, the horizon was filled with helicopters that continuously kept flying in fresh KFOR forces. They landed them only a few meters behind the last standpoint. In these circumstances, it was clear that there is no place in Kosovo where KFOR is able of reach in a very short time to provide the freedom of movement and restore a safe and secure environment to all people in Kosovo. All is well that ends well Ready to act anytime, anywhere! The entire “protest” ended peacefully and both parties where satisfied because the protesters had given their colleagues a realistic training exercise. The law enforcement units had moved forward with calmness, professionalism and precision while respecting their own as well as the lives and security of the demonstrators in front of them. for you 25 Upitnik Marina Popovi} (11) Ja bih menjala neke od nastavnika, kabinet informatike i u~ionice. I would like for our school to offer various school-trips, to have a canteen, a separate classroom for chemistry, physics, biology and music, a new sports court and sports hall and new toilets. I would like if we had a sound system for classes and school uniforms. ŠTA BISTE MENJALI U SVOJOJ ŠKOLI? Teodora Stojkovi} (12) Menjala bih u~ionice, kabinete i pojedine predmete. Georgije Djordjevic (14) At our school, we do not have a sports hall, chemistry and biology cabinets, new computers as we have ancient computers, a technical education cabinet and modern sports’ equipment. We would all like if this could change. School trips are very rare. As far as the teachers are concerned, we are satisfied with them and I would not change a thing about them. 25 Bubak The Bubak is pretty much to Czech tales and folklore what the bogeyman is to Western European and American folklore. It was usually described as a creepy creature resembling a scarecrow, and could cry just like an innocent, unprotected baby to lure its victims to their deaths. Also, some of the most popular tales regarding the Bubak always take place on the night of the full moon when the Bubak supposedly weaves cloth from the souls of those he has killed and, like an evil version of Santa Claus, drives a cart pulled by black cats. 24 Ghoul The ghoul is one of the most well-known creatures in Arabian folklore and we were introduced to it in the collection of tales, One Thousand and One Nights. The ghoul is described as an undead monster that can also take the form of an immaterial spirit and usually goes into graveyards to eat the flesh of the recently dead. In a free translation from Japanese to English Jorogumo means the “whore spider,” and in our humble opinion that name describes this monster perfectly. According to Japanese folklore, a Jorogumo was a blood-thirsty monster, but in most tales it is described as a huge spider that takes the form of a very attractive woman who seduces her male victims, traps them in her web, and then devours them with pleasure. 22 Cerberus In Greek mythology, Cerberus is the guardian of Hades and is usually described as a bizarre-looking monster that looks like a dog with three heads and a tail whose end is a dragon’s head. According to the ancient tragedian Aeschylus, Cerberus was born from the union of two monsters, the giant Typhon and Echidna. Cerberus is not considered an evil creature that hurts people intentionally, but a creature that ensures the arrival of the dead to the underworld and prevents the living from entering Hades. 28 for you MYTHIC CREATURES THAT NEVER EXISTED BUT PEOPLE BELIEVED IN ANYWAY Throughout history there have been countless stories about mythical creatures, legendary monsters, and supernatural beings. Despite their unclear origin, these mythical creatures have a place in folklore and in many cases are part of pop culture. Amazingly, there are people across the globe who still strongly believe these creatures exist in spite of the lack of proof that they do. So, our list today is about 25 legendary and epic mythic creatures that never existed yet many people believe otherwise. 21 Kraken The legend of the Kraken came from the Nordic seas and its presence was initially limited to the coasts of Norway and Iceland. The Norwegian fishermen originally described the sea monster as a gigantic animal that was as big as an island and presented danger to passing ships not from direct attack but from the giant waves and tsunamis that its movements could cause. Quickly, however, people began spreading stories about the monster’s vicious attacks and aggressive behavior, which destroyed every ship that had the misfortune of passing through its waters. 19 The Wendigo Those of you who are familiar with psychology have probably heard the term “Wendigo Psychosis,” which describes a psychosis to eat human flesh. The medical term takes its name from the mythical creature called the Wendigo, which, according to the Native American tribe the Algonquian, was an evil creature that looked like a cross between a human and a monster, something similar to a zombie. According to legend, only people who ate human flesh were at risk to become Wendigo. 20 Minotaur The Minotaur is one of the first epic creatures we meet in the history of humankind since it takes us back to the days of the Minoan civilizations prime. The Minotaur was said to have the head of a bull on the body of an extremely large, muscular man and dwelt at the center of the Cretan labyrinth, which was designed by Daedalus and his son, Icarus, at King Minos’s request. As one can easily understand, whoever was unlucky enough to get lost in the labyrinth became the Minotaur’s prey. 18 Kappa In ancient Japanese folklore the kappa is a water demon that lives in rivers and lakes and devours naughty children. Kappa means “child of the river” and has the body of a turtle, frog limbs, and a head with a beak. Also at the top of its head there is a cavity with water. While it is supposedly an aquatic creature, they are active on dry land. According to legend, a kappa’s head should always be kept wet otherwise it will lose its strength. nastavak u slede}em broju ...
