In a newly revised growth plan, Spirit said it expects to offer 70 flights a day from Fort Lauderdale by mid-summer, up from 34 daily flights currently and 50 last summer. In the first 10 months of 2007, Spirit grew its passenger count at Fort Lauderdale/Hol ly wood International Airport by 60.6 percent and became the leading air provider with about 15.1 percent of the market. By the end of 2008, Spirit plans to fly to 44 cities from Fort Lauderdale, including 28 in the Caribbean and Latin America. Excerpt from an article appearing in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel January 12, 2008 media notes Spirit Airlines buys 30 more airplanes from Airbus Spirit Airlines has purchased 30 additional Airbus A319 aircraft, with new deliveries beginning in 2009 and continuing through 2013. When combined with Spirit’s existing all-Airbus fleet and current orders, this new order would grow the airline’s fleet to 70 aircraft. The aircraft will be powered by V2500 engines from International Aero Engines (IAE). In addition, Spirit has agreed to purchase eleven spare engines from IAE to support its existing and newly ordered Airbus fleet. Excerpted from Spirit Airlines website January 2007. media notes In-flight magazines are the way to go If magazine advertisers want to reach the most affluent readership, they need not turn to Fortune, Forbes or Real Simple. Instead, they could target in-flight magazines. Those glossy airline pub- lications stuffed in the aircraft seat backs that seem full of destination profiles, crossword puzzles (often already completed) and endless travel-gadget ads have the distinction of having readers ranked among the highest in average household income of general interest publications. Of the top 10 magazines in terms of readers’ household incomes, five were airline publications… Excerpted from “Flight Glossies Share a Lucrative Demographic” appearing in the Washington Post May 30, 2006 media notes Spirit flies fuller planes in November The number of passengers who flew on Spirit Airlines in November grew 226.45 percent, year-over-year. The Fort Lauderdalebased low-fare carrier said it had 397,676 passengers, up from 314,633 passengers for the same month the year before. Planes were more full, too, at 77.7 percent of capacity, up 6.5 percentage points from last November. “We’re very pleased with our traffic results across the board this month,” said Ben Baldanza, Spirit president and chief executive officer. “With Spirit’s recent announcements of destination and fleet growth, we’re sure to continue to see positive results in our traffic figures as well.” Excerpted from an article appearing in The South Florida Business Journal December 5, 2006 skylights Media Kit the inflight magazine of Spirit Airlines Reader Profile skylights readers 72% of readers are ages 45 and above 48% are ages 25-54 53% are female, and 47% are male 83% are college educated 42% have a household income of $100,000 or more 63% are professionals, managers, executives or business owners At home 82% of readers are homeowners 31% are interested in purchasing real estate in the future Our readers are interested in Leisure travel 80% Outdoor / Sports 78% Shopping 61% Attractions 60% Casino / Gambling 37% Why they travel 80% travel for leisure 20% travel for business pirit passengers are very loyal and satisfied: S 98% plan on flying with Spirit again Where they stay Almost 50% use hotels, villa/condo rentals, all-inclusive resorts and vacation ownership/timeshare Spirit passengers research the internet for Resort Specials 41% Theatre Tickets 37% Cruises 36% Jewelry / Watches 22% Purchase Airline Tickets 75% Source: November/December 2007 Readership Study skylights Media Kit the inflight magazine of Spirit Airlines editorial coverage Features Celebrity Profile: Interviews with top movie, television and entertainment stars.
