Going ‘Green’ Makes a
Difference
Completion of the new one-mile walking path circling two large lakes at
Broadmoor Park is the first project in the ambitious development of the 169 acre
Park. After Brazilian peppers trees and other invasive growth were removed
from along the banks, the bank run shell surface was put in place. Plantings
along the banks for erosion prevention purposes have also been completed.

Broadmoor Park Development Underway

Construction of improvements at Broadmoor Park has begun with
the installation of the walking path encircling the central ponds. The
shell path is complete except for the access path from the parking lot
(off Rotonda Circle across from Broadmoor Memorial Park). The
access path is graded and should be completed soon. A freestanding
rest room facility adjacent to the head of the access path is planned.
Future plans include additional walking paths.
Next phase in the Broadmoor Park development plans is
conversion of the old Pinemoor Golf Course pro shop into
administrative/operations headquarters and office space for the
Rotonda West Association. Bids have been solicited for this project
and are currently being received. Association Manager Jay Lyons
anticipates moving administrative operations to the new facility in
Broadmoor Park by the end of this year.
Responses are in and have been tabulated from the Broadmoor
Park Meeting and Community Building survey distributed to
members earlier this year. 552 responses were received. (See
results on Page 2) By significant majorities, respondents favored
construction of facilities adequate to accommodate the annual RWA
meeting and other large meetings and events, as well as exercise
facilities, adult education and crafts, dances and a banquet facility.
Majorities favored a main facility capable of accommodating at least
300 people, as well as smaller meeting or game rooms, a fitness
center, a kitchen and space for a library. It is anticipated that this
facility will be built adjacent to the administration building (former
pro shop).
Planning is in the early stages and size, design and mix of amenities
have not been finally determined. A subcommittee of the Buildings
and Grounds Committee has been formed to interview design/build
firms potentially interested in this project. Those deemed qualified
will be invited to make presentations to the Committee at its meeting
on September 10. It is expected that this facility will be completed
by the end of 2016.
Funding for these projects will be derived primarily from the sale
of the RWA community center building and adjacent lot on Cape
Haze Drive. This sale was closed in June, but RWA retains use of the
building through the end of this year, with some limited future use.

Five years ago, the RWA adopted its
ECOM program and the cost-saving to
the RWA has proven beneficial.
What is the ECOM program? It’s the
RWA’s Electronics Communications
Program and a “green initiatives” idea
to save paper, ink and postage for West
Ways. You can read copies of West
Ways online, while saving money to
print and mail copies. It costs 17.6
cents per copy to print and 25 cents for
postage, for an 8-page issue of West
Ways.
Some 1,300 members have opted to
join the program. Annual cost-saving
to the RWA has been about $3,200.00.

RWA Election Committee
Announces New Directors

their vacancies.

(adopted
7/16/2014), “in the event that there are
only as many (or fewer) candidates
pre-qualified for election as there are
open seats on the Board, no election
shall be held and the pre-qualified
candidates shall automatically become
members of the Board after the Annual
Meeting,” to be held December 3,
2015.
There will, however, be a vote on
the rollover of excess net membership
income for 2015. The ballots for the
rollover of funds will be included in
your Annual Meeting Notice Packets.
The Candidates Statements, along
with other pertinent documents, will
also be included in this packet.

President’s Message
for August 2015
I hope everyone is enjoying their
summer. I am enjoying a vacation in
the UK once again with my children,
relatives, and friends. Before leaving,
one of the last things we did as both a
Board of Directors and the Buildings
and Grounds Committee was a
review of the results of the Broadmoor Park Survey. It certainly
gave us some things to think about. In the main initial project,
the majority of people were in favor of an open space meeting
room spanning between 3,500 and 4,000 square feet, including
ancillary storage areas for member clubs, a small kitchen,
bathroom facilities and, if possible, a veranda area. A significant
number of members felt that there should also be a work out room
area with some equipment but we will have to wait and see how
far the budget stretches. One thing is for sure, we will not be able
to afford everything that people want in this first phase. If you
are interested in this project, be sure to attend the Building and
Grounds meetings over the next few months as this will be the
main topic for discussion.
The developer has finally responded to the suggested Deed
Restriction changes that we sent him back in November of last
year. He is happy to go along with the majority of the changes.
However, he would not agree to the changes made regarding lot
maintenance. Therefore, for the foreseeable future we will leave
that section unchanged. The association manager and I intend to
meet with the developer as soon as possible to talk through what
objections he had with the rejected changes and to continue to
press him on relinquishing his retained rights.
The date for submitting your notice of Intent and Candidates
Statement for this year’s election closed midday on Friday, August
14th. Only two candidates came forward and both are Board
Members, Andy Vanscyoc and myself, Glynn Perkins. Due to
there being no other candidates for this year’s election, there will
be no election and the two incumbent candidates will continue on
the Association Board of Directors for another three years.
As I mentioned at the beginning, I hope you all continue to
have a great summer and I look forward to seeing everyone attend
meetings, especially regarding the Broadmoor Park development
in the coming months.

Director Kulp on behalf of Chairman Perkins called the meeting
to order and stated that the meeting was to discuss the proposal of
a land swap between the Developer (Cape Cave Corporation) and
Rotonda West Association, Inc. The swap would involve the Developer
exchanging Lots 00TB and 00TC on Rotonda Circle abutting the
entrance to Broadmoor Park for the Association’s Lot 9 located on
Rotonda Boulevard West.
There was significant discussion about this proposal. Finally, the Board
concluded that trying to sell Lot 9 would likely take considerable
time and its value would not be more than the combined value of the
Rotonda Circle lots which probably would sell more quickly. Further,
the property taxes on the Rotonda Circle lots are less than those for the
Rotonda Boulevard West property.
Director Killion moved that the Board of Directors proceed to work
with Cape Cave Corporation to complete the paperwork with the
Association’s lawyers and then complete the land swap transaction
with payment of back taxes and also to include closing costs on Parcels
00TB and 00TC in exchange for Parcel 9 on Rotonda Boulevard West.
Director VanScyoc seconded the motion; and, it passed unanimously.
It was stated that the Association would like to close on these properties
before May 29, 2015, so that the Association could avoid paying
additional interest on the Rotonda Circle property.
The meeting was then adjourned.

With the Manager’s Report, Jay Lyons provided the following information:
(1) to date 287 members have not paid their Annual Dues and these
delinquencies will be sent to collection if not paid by May 31, 2015 and
a lien will be placed on the properties if any amounts are not paid by
July 31, 2015; (2) a contract has been signed with Hughey Constructions
Services for the walking path at Broadmoor Park; (3) a survey was sent
out in the most recent edition of West Ways for responses about the new
Broadmoor Park Community Building; (4) the listing contracts for offering
the Community Center and cell tower site for sale have been signed
with Coldwell Banker Commercial Sunstar Realty and are listed on the
Englewood MLS; (5) Dean Ziegler of Banks Engineering is developing
plans and specifications for the remodel of the pro-shop at Broadmoor
Park and, once approved by the Board, the specifications will go out to
bid with plans to move the administrative operations to Broadmoor Park
by the end of the year; (6) the Association is also working with Banks
Engineering to determine the feasibility of constructing a boat ramp in the
future on the vacant lot at 111 Rotonda Circle in Oakland Hills; and finally,
(7) the Association is working with Jeff Nagle of Johnson Engineering to
establish a design and construction budget estimate to install irrigation at
the 5 entrance bridges to Rotonda West.
As part of the Budget & Finance Committee Report, Director Killion
introduced the topic of estoppel fees saying that multiple levels are
allowed. The Committee recommends changing the estoppel fee as follows:
increase the current estoppel fee from $75.00 to $100.00 plus an additional
$100.00 if there is a request to expedite the process plus an additional
$100.00 if the property account is delinquent. Director Killion moved to
have the Board of Directors adjust the estoppel fee as recommended by
the Budget & Finance Committee. Director Kulp seconded the motion.
Discussion then followed. Manager Lyons stated that a proposal before
the State Legislature would increase the regular estoppel fee to $250.00,
plus $100.00 for expediting the process within 10 days, plus $100.00 for a
delinquent account. He said that these fees are judged as reasonable by the
Association attorney. After further discussion about what other surrounding

Association’s charge and other aspects of the fee, the motion was passed
unanimously. The Board then took up consideration of transfer fees.
Director Traverso moved that the Board of Directors increase the transfer
fee from $75.00 to $100.00. Director VanScyoc seconded the motion; and,
it carried unanimously. Director Perkins stated he was against raising the
transfer fee charge for only the removal of a deceased spouse from a deed.
Director Traverso moved that the Board of Directors exclude transfer fees
when the only action is to remove deceased spouses from property deeds.
Director Killion seconded the motion; and, it carried unanimously.
Director Killion also reported that the Budget & Finance Committee
also discussed Reserves. In that regard, Director Kilion moved to have
the Board of Directors authorize moving $100,000.00 from Operating
Expenses into Reserves, with $42,500.00 to Mowing Equipment and
$57,500.00 to Broadmoor Park. Director Kulp seconded the motion. It
passed unanimously.
As part of the Buildings & Grounds Committee Report, Director Perkins
moved to have the Board approve John & Barbara Peszko, Sue Killion,
Mel Kugler, Bob Barrett, Art Richards, David Kelly, Scott Schermerhorn,
George Krabbe, Bob Bondeson, Dean Ziegler, and Joseph Romano as
Building & Grounds Committee members. Director VanScyoc seconded
the motion; and, it carried unanimously. The Committee also had discussed
insurance for Broadmoor Park including the cost of Wind Insurance and
Manager Lyons had received a quote of $6,705.77. The Committee was
recommending the Board approve that insurance. Director Perkins moved
that the Board of Directors accept the insurance quote of $6,705.77 which
includes the wind insurance. Director Killion seconded the motion. It
passed unanimously.
As part of the Community Relations Committee Report, Chairman Haas
gave an overview of the Committee’s activities during the past month.
Director Kulp moved that the Board of Directors approve Barry Kean
as a member of the Community Relations Committee working with the
West Ways staff. Director VanScyoc seconded the motion; and, it carried
unanimously.
As part of the Compliance Committee Report, Director Perkins moved
that the Board of Directors apply the fines as approved by the Compliance
Committee for the following properties: 13 Annapolis Lane; 206 Annapolis
Lane; 146 Boundary Boulevard; 53 Caddy Road; 55 Caddy Road; 156
Caddy Road; 171 Caddy Road; 3 Golfview Road; 73 Golfview Road; 6
Pebble Beach Road; 90 Mariner Lane; 50 Pinehurst Court; 523 Rotonda
Circle; 11 Medalist Lane; 14 Medalist Lane; and 991 Rotonda Circle.
Director Kulp seconded the motion; and, it passed unanimously.
Then, Director Perkins moved on the recommendation of the Compliance
Committee to remove the fine of $80.00 for Robert Johnson of 187 Caddy
Road. Director Killion seconded the motion. Discussion ensued with
Director Kelly asking if the Committee was aware of a previous violation
for this property and Manager Lyons reported that the issue was brought
up at the Committee meeting. The motion failed 6 to 1 with Directors
Killion, Kulp, Perkins, Schermerhorn, Traverso and VanScyoc voting in
the negative.
As part of the Deed Restrictions Committee Report, Director Traverso
related the topics discussed at the Committee’s May meeting which
included prospective changes coming regarding PODs, storage trailers,
dumpsters, door-to-door solicitation, signage, canal bank sodding
and grading, fences, screens, basketball hoops, tennis courts, etc. The
Association is still waiting for the Developer to formally approve the
changes that had been submitted to him. Director Van Scyoc moved that
the Board of Directors amend a previous decision to apply a $100.00 dollar
fine on second-time offenders by adding a time cycle, say 24 months, to
be determined by subsequent discussion to this motion. Director Kulp
seconded the motion. The motion was approved with the time cycle being
established at 24 months.
Under unfinished business, Director Kulp moved that the Board of
Directors approve and adopt the new Policy & Procedures Manual as
presented to the Board and have it replace the current Manual effective
June 1, 2015. Director Traverso seconded the motion. It passed
unanimously.
Under New Business, Director Schermerhorn asked the Board to consider
dissolving the Broadmoor Park Development Committee as most of the
members of that are also on the Buildings & Grounds Committee and
there is duplication of focus and work and the Committee cannot be
counted on to dissolve itself. Then, Director Schermerhorn moved
that the Broadmoor Park Development Committee be disbanded and all
of its duties be transferred to the Buildings & Grounds Committee since
most of the members of the Broadmoor Park Development Committee
are also on the Buildings & Grounds Committee and all items discussed
are duplicated by the Buildings & Grounds Committee in its charter and
meeting agenda, leaving too many layers before a recommendation can be
made to the Board. Director Traverso seconded the motion. Significant
discussion followed. The motion carried with Directors Killion, Perkins
and VanScyoc voting in the negative.

Friday, May 22, 2015

After the meeting was called to order, Chairman Perkins announced that
the meeting had been called to discuss and vote on the pending purchase
of the RWA properties located at 3754 and 3784 Cape Haze Drive, namely
the Community Center and the cell tower lot. The second item to be
discussed and voted on was the Exchange of Real Property Agreement
to swap the RWA property at 151 Rotonda Boulevard West for the Cape
Cave Corporation properties at 620/640 Rotonda Circle.
Bill Aderman of Coldwell Banker Sunstar Realty then stated the terms
of the purchase offer to the Directors. The offer for the two properties
is $425,000.00 and is a cash offer. The closing date would be June 30,
2015 and the offer has some minor contingencies one of which is the
determination that the cell tower lease is assignable. There are ten days due
diligence on the part of the prospective buyer. The Association will lease
office and meeting space from the buyer from July 1 through December
31, 2015. In lieu of rent, the Association will pay all utilities, taxes, and
insurance through the end of the lease.
Director Perkins moved that the Board of Directors approve the sale of
the Association’s property at 3754 and 3784 Cape Haze Drive as presented
by the Association’s broker, Bill Aderman, of Coldwell Banker Sunstar
Realty and approve the President signing the sales contract. Director
Killion seconded the motion; and it passed unanimously.
The Board then discussed the Exchange of Real Property Agreement
which had been prepared for the swap of the RWA property at 151
Rotonda Boulevard West for Cape Cave Corporation properties at 620 and
640 Rotonda Circle. Director Perkins stated that the property values are
almost equal with the Cape Cave properties having a combined value of
$60,000.00 and the RWA Boulevard West property valued at $66,000.00.
The Directors were in agreement that the Boulevard West property would
likely be much more difficult to sell than either of the lots on Rotonda
Circle. The closing date of June 15, 2015 has been proposed.
Director Perkins moved that the Board of Directors approve the swap
of the RWA property at 151 Rotonda Boulevard West for Cape Cave’s
properties at 620 and 640 Rotonda Circle and that they approve the
President signing the transfer contract. Director VanScyoc seconded the
motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Site Screening of outside equipment
and trash cans.
Over the past six months some progress
has been made in reducing the Deed
Restriction violations regarding site
screening of trash receptacles but
this violation continues to rank as the
number one Deed Restriction violation
in the community.
The Deed Restriction pertaining to this issue states in Section
18. Trash – Garbage – Outside Equipment: “Except on the day
immediately preceding the day of collection and the day of
collection, trash containers shall be kept either inside the garage
or within a site-screened area. Bottle gas tanks, swimming pool
equipment, sprinkler pumps, generators and other such outdoor
equipment, excluding air conditioning units and pool heaters,

Bits ‘n Pieces from around our community

Close Call... Residents along a stretch of Annapolis Lane had a
scare on the evening of July 3. Lightning reportedly started a fire in
the Preserve and flames were shooting 20 to 30 feet high, burning
trees and brush along the way. Some residents were evacuated.
Embers traveled blocks and several homeowners used precaution
by hosing down roofs and plants. Fortunately, no homes were
reported damaged.
Newcomer’s Night... The fourteenth in a series of receptions for
new residents will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday,
November 12 at the Hills Country Club, 100 Rotonda Circle,

Gator-Aid

Recently, there has been spirited discussion amongst Rotonda
residents regarding the reporting of alligators that some perceive
as serious threats. It may be helpful for all of us to at least
appreciate the following.
Alligators are a natural phenomena throughout our state. They
are fascinating, prehistoric creatures whose unique attributes
have captivated generations of Floridians. Left alone, they will
overwhelmingly choose to avoid human interaction.
They are predators, however, and if fed by people will associate
the feeder with a reliable source of food and may assume a more
aggressive posture. DON’T feed them.
If a resident is certain a particular alligator poses an immediate
shall be placed in a site-screened area so that they shall not be

The term trash containers refers to all trash containers including
recyclables and yard trash barrels.
Over the next few months we will be concentrating on the element
of the Deed Restriction pertaining to the site screening of outdoor
equipment. So, if your outdoor equipment, pool equipment,
irrigation pump, generator, propane tank, etc. is visible from the
street, you will receive a violation letter stating you have 14 days
to correct the violation.
If the violation is not remedied within 14 days the issue will be
brought to the Compliance Committee and the Board of Director
to initiate fining. The fine would be $20.00 per day until the
violation is remedied up to $5,000.00 in the aggregate.
Please make sure you understand the Residential Modification
Guidelines for site screening and complete a Residential
Modification application before you erect a new site screen
or expand an existing site screen. If you have any questions,

It’s A ‘Go’... Work has begun at the Long Meadow Memorial
Park along Rotonda Circle. Electrical requirements and concrete
work have been completed and the irrigation and planting
process completed by Hazeltine Nurseries. When construction is
completed, the Park will join three other Memorial Parks in our
community in Pebble Beach, Broadmoor and White Marsh.
Sheriff’s Alert... According to Charlotte County Sheriff’s Deputy
Dan Cotton, more than 240 homes currently are under permit
for construction within Rotonda and South Gulf Cove. Deputy
Cotton asks residents to keep an eye out for suspicious activity
at residential construction sites and, if a problem, call 911 or the
non-emergency number, 941 639-0013. Deputy Dan is also the
Sheriff’s Adviser to our Neighborhood Watch.
Boat Ramp in Our Future?... Dean Zieglar of Banks Engineering
has competed a feasibility study for the construction of a boat ramp
at the Association-owned 24,000 square foot vacant lot adjacent
to the Oakland Hills Marina at 111 Rotonda Circle. The results
of the survey are being reviewed by the Building & Grounds
Committee, and then by the Board. If approved, the boat ramp
will provide excess to our 26 miles of waterways for our boaters.

that captured alligators are not re-located, but killed and sold for
profit.
Cohabiting with the wondrously diverse nature here in Paradise
is something to treasure. It benefits all concerned to do so
responsibly.

You Can Help Add Holiday Cheer to the
Coming Season

Before we know it, the Christmas season will be upon us! We
need your help!
Santa needs volunteers to assist his elves. If you have been in
our neighborhood in the wintertime, you may have seen some of
their work. Each year, the five entrances, memorial parks, bridges
and Oakland Hills Marina come alive with wreaths, holiday lights,
garland, and many handcrafted decorations.
Unfortunately every year, the naughty list grows as some of the
decorations are damaged, stolen or kidnapped, as was the case
with some reindeer, a toy soldier, a snowman, and last season’s
victim, a 6-foot tall gingerbread man.
With the holiday season fast approaching, we can use your

Residents Who Serve
As “Big Brothers Big
Sisters”

Three years ago, in April 2012, the Rotonda West Association
became a community partner with “Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Englewood.” This partnership has proven to be a great boost for
dozens of kids in the Englewood area, whom have benefited from
having a role model they can trust and learn from.
During that time, some 25 residents of our community were
serving as Big Brothers and Big Sisters, devoting one or two hours
a week to at-risk, school aged kids. In addition, 5 of 10 members
of the Englewood Community Board lived in Rotonda West.
For these efforts, the Association was rewarded with the honor
of being selected as the 2012-2013 Organization of the Year,
among 200 community partners of the “Big Brothers Big Sisters of
the Sun Coast.” These partners include community organizations,
corporate sponsors, and faith-based organizations in the wide
service area of the 10 counties it represents.
Since the creation of the partnership, several more residents
have stepped up to become mentors, giving Rotonda West the lead
by far in Englewood with 41 mentors.

This fall, the Englewood Community Board will sponsor its
sixth annual “Chef’s Cooking For Kids” fundraising event. Last
year, it drew over 250 people at the Englewood Event Center,
including several Rotonda West tables. The event received rave
reviews and people are already requesting tickets for the next
one.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 24th at
the Englewood Event center. Roughly 2 dozen chefs from local
restaurants and Master Chefs compete with their specialty dishes
ranging from appetizers to entrees and desserts. They all attempt
to outdo one another and prizes are awarded to the winners. A
silent auction and a “chance” drawing of a wheelbarrow filled
with cheer are also planned.
Information and tickets costing $35.00 a piece are available
from Rotonda West Board members Danica Harris, Ted Kern, Jim
Laurent, John Sciandra, and Don Mahon.
Chairwoman of the Englewood Community Board is Brenda
Peckham; Sales Manager of Brookdale Rotonda Assisted Living.
Natalie Anderson is Lead Mentor in Charlotte County & North
Port, and Quality Assurance Senior Manager. Mentors are always
needed.

The Amazing Story of Our Own Suzie Doyens

About a dozen years ago, Suzie Doyens couldn’t speak. She was
then in her 20s. She communicated only by writing notes.
The turning point happened when a speech therapist began
to teach her how to talk. Even after nine years, she still wasn’t
speaking. How and why she spoke her first words is a story in
itself. According to her Mother, “It wasn’t until Special Olympics
asked her to become a Global Messenger that she even considered
speaking out loud. She was too afraid that if she said something
wrong, people would laugh at her. It took her 3 days to decide she
would like to train for public speaking with Special Olympics.
She then called them herself, expressed interest and that was the
beginning of her life as we know it today.”
All along, Suzie wouldn’t allow Down syndrome to get in her
way.
Amazingly, she just finished giving her 504th speech as Special
Olympics Global Ambassador and has recorded a public service
announcement for TV that has appeared in nearly every Englishspeaking country around the globe. In its first year alone, the PSA
had 4.9 billion showings.
Suzie is also a competitive athlete. When she was 8, she picked
up a golf club for the first time and is a Florida Special Olympics
champion and is proficient as a stand-up paddle boarder.
Another thrilling experience was about to happen to Suzie.
Since she was a little girl, she kept an autographed photo of the
legendary Hall of Fame golfer Arnold Palmer pinned up on her
bedroom wall.
Just a few weeks ago, she was at Arnie’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge
in Orlando. Suzie was invited to give a talk there at a Champions
Breakfast to raise funds for the state’s Special Olympics. She
stayed in the Lodge the night before with her parents and was
up bright and early the next morning at 6 a.m. Suzie thrilled an
audience of 100 community leaders with her patented presentation
at the Champions Breakfast.
While at the golf resort, a waitress alerted Arnie about Suzie’s
presence. They met and Arnie greeted her warmly and gave her
a big hug while cameras were clicking. “Talk about a thrilling

As reported in our last issue, the video traces the land we live
on back 3 thousand years to the settlement of the Calusa Indian
tribe here and the sometimes chaotic early development of our
community. Jay Lyons closes the video with a segment on the
development of Broadmoor Park and our future.
The former pro shop at Broadmoor Park was used as a
makeshift studio for the shoot. The video was produced by
Cornerstone Productions, LLC, of Sarasota. It is a project of the
RWA Community Relations Committee. Don Mahon, a committee
member, was the project coordinator for the Association.
The video was the subject of a major feature column in the
Englewood Sun on July 21, written by Pattie Mihalik, a veteran
newspaper journalist. It was based on an interview with Jack and
Pastor Carl.

Lynda is a devoted mother, is deeply involved with Florida
Special Olympics and organizes an annual golf tournament in this
area to support the charitable agency. For more information, call
Lynda at 941-830-8838. Special Olympics is free to all participants
with developmental disabilities after they no longer qualify for
school after age 22. Special Olympics in Charlotte County must
raise all of its funds for local programming.
Bank of America sent Suzie to Los Angeles in February for four
days to be the keynote speaker for the Special Olympics World
Games Golf Training session, which included the American and
Canadian golf teams. One day, she attended a one-hour workshop
with noted PGA golfers Ben Crane, Webb Simpson and Russell
Henly, and spent time with them later. The World Games,
televised by ESPN, were held in late July with over 150 nations
competing.
Suzie and her parents, Dan and Lynda, are from the Chicago
area and live on Rotonda Circle in Broadmoor. Suzie’s room is a
haven of golf memorabilia, including trophies and souvenir golf
balls from every course she has ever played.
Suzie’s goal this year is to become an International Global
Messenger that would allow her to travel all over the world to
spread the joy she gets from being involved in such a wonderful
program.

story and championship golf exploits in the July/August 2014 issue
of West Ways. She has been just as busy ever since.
Little-Known Form Will Help in Emergencies

Here’s an important tip for residents who live alone or even a
good idea if there are others in your household.
There was an incident reported recently by a resident that
a neighbor who lived alone fell in his driveway and was badly
injured. The victim did not carry his wallet or any identification
information and the house was locked. Emergency response
personnel at the scene were unable to obtain immediate family
contact information. Eventually, they were successful.
The emergency response team strongly recommended to
neighbors at the scene that every household obtain and complete
two copies of the Charlotte County Red Dot Medical Information
form. Copies can be downloaded by accessing the website www.
CharlotteCountyFL.com/Fire/RedDotProgram.asp or are available
at area Fire Stations.
The form includes comprehensive Medical History information,
space for writing in Medications, Hospital information and
Emergency Contact Information.
It is suggested that a completed copy be taped to your refrigerator
and readily available for emergency personnel, if needed. The
second copy should be mailed to Charlotte County Fire/EMS
Headquarters, 26571 Airport Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33982. The
information will be entered into their data base.
An idea well-worth your consideration.
