Greetings families! As we approach the Winter Break, I would like to take this
opportunity to wish each of you and your families a most happy, healthy holiday
season! I hope that you will have a chance to relax and enjoy some special times
with your children. As always, I am proud of how hard they have been working
each and every day! One of our school-wide goals this year is to help our students
enjoy reading and writing which occurs in every core class. Perhaps your children
might like to write in a vacation journal about some of the fun things they will do
while away from school the next two weeks. We would love to read all about it!
Thank you for attending our second Interim Report Pickup Night on December
3rd. This was a great evening for you to meet teachers again and review assignments posted on Home Access Center (HAC) and help your children prepare for
the closing of grades on January 7, 2016. The grades for marking period one and
marking period two will be combined. The two marking periods together are
called Semester One.
Counselor Corner 6
Also on December 3rd, we truly appreciated your support by attending our Winter
Music Concert which was Orchestra, Band and Choir. Your children expressed
how happy they were to play for you.

As the winter weather is approaching, in the event your child will be absent, or
late due to illness, or for any reason, you must call the school at 330-773-7631 and
leave a message. The main office secretary, Mrs. Hetrick, will document the absence accordingly. Please know that if your child is absent and a phone call has
not been made, the emergency number on file will be called to make sure that we
can account for the child’s absence.

Students and Staff are doing great things!
We have completed our second checkpoint for student growth, the assessment tests known as
MAP and DAP.
Students were rewarded by receiving a ticket to afternoon activities or choosing to dress up or in
jeans by completing all scheduled assessment tests. They had a great time and they earned it!
The mascot Martian also joined us!
Roswell Kent Staff Members Have Talent!
We had an incredible holiday treat provided by Chefs Bircher and Hackett and Pastry Chef England. There were made to order fresh salads with choice of Filet of Beef, Chicken or Salmon!
The appetizer was a wonderful soup, with a fresh roll and butter, followed by a healthy salad and
dessert – a peanut butter pie delight provided by Ms. England.
The pie was soo good, snapshots were not available!
Happy Holidays from Roswell Kent Staff!

Did you know it’s never too early to start preparing for College??
December Focus for Parents with Middle School Teens
Healthy Habits
If your teens do not eat well and get enough sleep and exercise, they will not be productive in school.
When helping your teens develop healthy study skills to prepare for college while they are in middle school, there are
three key areas healthy habits to consider:
Good Nutrition Is Key
As parents, you have some control over what your teens eat at home.
Ensure that they:
Eat Breakfast
Bring lunch to school or encourage them to eat lunch at school
Drink lots of water
Choose a variety of fruits and vegetables in their diet
Include lean or low-fat choices in their diet
Limit saturated fats, cholesterol, salt and added sugar
Regular Exercise Is Essential
A regular exercise program should incorporate 60 minutes of exercise at least five days a week.
(This can include the school’s exercise program)
Check with teens’ health-care provides before starting an exercise program
Getting Enough Sleep
Help teens manage their time, which includes making sure they allocate hours for sleep and rest as part
of their routine schedule.
Monitor social media usage, especially after your child has gone to bed.

Parent Visitation Process
The school is open to you. If you would like to visit, please call 330-773-7631 and ask
for Mrs. Marshall (students with last names beginning A~ K) or Ms. Britton (students
with last names beginning with M ~ Z) and they will set up a visit schedule for you.
Please enter the building at the main entrance off the parking lot – Door #4. For security
reasons, all visitors must sign-in in the office. You will also need to sign out when you
leave. Thank you for your cooperation with this procedure.
When visiting classes, we ask that you take a seat in the rear of the room and remain
seated the entire period. Not only will this afford you observation of the entire class, but
the students will be less distracted by your presence. You will get an accurate picture of
the classroom in session.
Please keep in mind that you are an observer, and we ask that you simply watch what is
going on and not participate nor interact with the students unless invited by the teacher.
Please do not use your cell phone while in the building. It could become a distraction to
the students.
Complaint Procedure
It is the desire of the district to rectify any misunderstandings between the public and
the District by the direct discussion of an informal, timely manner among the interested parties. The District’s procedure resolving any oral or written misunderstandings or complaints from parents and/or stakeholders concerned with the appropriate
delivery of service to children is simple and straightforward. All complainants
should first contact the children’s teacher, if applicable, to attempt to resolve any issues. If not resolved, the appropriate procedure is to contact the Assistant Principal
(if applicable), then the Building Principal, Mr. Anthony S. Lane at 330-773-7631.
In most cases, problems can be quickly resolved at the building level. If not resolved at the building, contact the Executive Director, Mr. Mark Black, at 330-7613080 [General Provisions Regulations, at 34 CFR Sections 299,10-299,12.]
