CHAMBER CONNECTION April 2015 Letter From President, Rick Spragins Table of Contents To all of our fantastic Chamber Members, Executive Director Dorrie Faubus-McCarty Happy Springtime! Please lord don't give us a last blast of winter as our trees begin to bud, with our hopes of getting outside to enjoy the beautiful world you gave us. Thank you for all you do for us. Can I have an Amen? Office Manager Candace Lewis To me Spring brings joy, and a time to take a look at how our first quarter looks, in the midst of the dreadful April 15th. It's also a time to reflect on the past year, and hope, if it was a good year we don't have to pay additional taxes, and if it was a bad year, we still hope we didn't have to pay taxes! Oh well, so much for wishful thinking. Communications Coordinator Ester Portillo Membership/Special Events Coordinator As I meet with business owners throughout our community it seems as though there is one common theme that keeps coming up. "We can't hire enough people to fulfill the demand of our business." Where did our workforce go? How do our businesses deliver great customer service when we know we don't have the personnel to keep up with the demand? Good question???? Kathleen Garcia Office Assistant Cassandra Washington President’s Letter 2 2014/2015 Board of Directors 3 Business of the Month 4 Please don't take this as if I'm preaching, but it's my opinion for whatever it's worth, we should not promise something if we can't deliver. Maybe there are times in business when we simply have to say "I'm sorry but at this time, we cannot perform these services, but as soon as my resources free up, we will call you." I know this sounds totally against any business principles we've learned in our business life, but as a customer I think I would rather have someone tell me they can't perform my request, than frustrate the crap out of me wondering why no one has shown up! Tell me something, don't leave me hanging. Does this make sense? To me I would just rather tell the truth than leave a customer hanging in the wind. We all know darn well, if they have a bad experience, they are going to tell at least six people. Then those six are going to tell another six, and the forward chain of events are just flat not going to be good for business. February Calendar 11 Chamber Champions 29 Chamber Diamonds 29 The Chamber appreciates all of our members. Thank you to our wonderful staff and board for all they do. Remember to check your weekly Chamber updates for upcoming events. We try to provide value to our members, and if you have suggestions please provide us with your feedback. Emerald Members 29 "One customer, well taken care of, could be more valuable than $10,000 worth of advertising." Jim Rohn Chamber Members 30 Best Regards, Rick Spragins 2 2014 - 2015 Board of Directors Roswell Chamber of Commerce If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. ~John Quincy Adams~ EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS BOARD MEMBERS Don Bullock BOARD MEMBERS (CONT.) Many of our guests wore green but Charles Shannon with Primm Drugs truly brought out the Irish and took the prize. Mayor Kintigh was delighted to address the largest crowd since this event first started. Thank you to everyone that attended the information filled morning. Special thanks to Casa Maria Healthcare Center and Sunset Villa Care Center for providing breakfast. Each month, the Chamber of Commerce invites you to spend a morning with Roswell’s Mayor, Dennis Kintigh to ask questions and discuss issues that impact the community Dennis believes we need to strengthen our economic development, provide better public safety, and clean up the community. He supports our troops and the 2nd Amendment. 13 14 RMAC’s Spring Schedule Hot off the Press RMAC’s spring quarterly class schedule is now hot off the press with fantastic offerings beginning with our signature adult and children’s clay classes. Aria Finch will hold her children and adult clay classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning April 7th and continue until late May. Anna Edwards’ Thursday evening ceramics class will start the week prior, on April 2nd and continue for six weeks. Our afterschool program will start-up after a brief hiatus, and kick off once more every other Wednesday starting on Wednesday, April 8th from 3:30pm-4:30pm. Landscape photography with Bruce Gaucher is back and with so many great onsite locations, who wouldn’t want to be part of such a great experience. Due to the popularity of Beginning to Intermediate Watercolor, taught by the talented Barbara Rizzo, we are happy to be including this course once more in the spring quarter. Weekends are never dull with the RMAC. Whether the young or young at heart want to unwind with a little art or music, we may have what you are searching for. Ever wondered about the art of printmaking? Well you are in luck; the wonderful Susan Voigt will be hosting a two-weekend workshop entitled Just Printmaking on Saturday and Sunday, May 30th and 31st and will pick up once more on Saturday and Sunday, June 6th and 7th. Music artist Jonathon Joe Gomez will be back. However, this time we are not only offering guitar for children ages 6-13, but also in an effort to include all those music lovers, we have slightly expanded to include an adult class as well. Adult and children’s guitar will kick off on April 4th, and the widely popular Second Saturday program will continue on with great excitement as we move into spring. Not sure if you want to partake in a class? No problem. The Roswell Museum and Art Center has more to offer. We have special events coming up which the whole family may benefit from. Join us for our “Free Friday Feature Film Series” on April 24th and May 8th inside the Goddard Planetarium. Front doors will open at 7 pm. We will have snacks and drinks readily available for all. Monday, March 30th through Friday, April 3rd from 9:00am until 12:00pm stop by the RMAC for the Spring Fling. This will be a fun-filled week of Craft Activities, Planetarium Shows, Gallery Tours and an Outdoor Activity for all kids ending in Story Time with a Build-a-Snack project on the Patio. From special film presentation talks to Roswell Artist-in-Residence openings and even the Kentucky Derby event, the Roswell Museum and Art Center has something for all. Want times and dates? Our webpage, roswellmuseum.org, is being updated on a daily basis, so stay tuned for other exciting programming and events. Please contact me for questions or ideas on all our new programing.
