Stewardship
A Way of Life
This Week’s Readings
In today’s gospel, the disciples suggest that Jesus
disperse the crowd so that they might individually seek
food and lodging. The miracle of the feeding of the
5,000 is Jesus’ powerful reminder that when we share
our gifts in His name there is always more than enough!
First Friday
June 3, 2016
There will be Exposition of the Blessed
Sacrament following the 9:00 a.m. Mass,
until 3:00 p.m., in the Chapel of the Holy
Cross located in the Parish Ministry Building.
Nocturnal Adoration
Friday, June 3, 2016
Living Stewardship
We are grateful this week for all stewards who
continually develop their relationship with Jesus
through prayer and the Eucharist.

Volunteer Catechists
Needed
We need your help for the 2016-2017 Religious
Education year. We especially need catechists in
levels 4, 5, 7 & 8. The younger grades meet weekly
and Levels 7 & 8 meet approximately every other
week. Training is provided. Catechists must fill
out a volunteer form and participate in a VIRTUS
workshop on protecting children against abuse.
Please call our office at (516) 678-2306 or e-mail
religioused@stagnescathedral.org.
Our children
need you to help them learn our faith!
Attention
This Year’s Catechists
We thank you for all your hard work and dedication
to our children. Catechists are asked to return their
catechist manuals and attendance sheets to our
office. We also have a small gift for our catechists
that you can pick up in our office.

Prayer Ministry
Volunteers
Now that we have moved back into
our newly restored Cathedral, you
are asked to please consider helping
in restoring the Ministry of Prayer
that was begun almost 20 years ago. This Ministry
centered on having people who are homebound pray
for the members of our parish and for the personal
intentions that are, on a weekly basis, placed in the
prayer box at the Shrine of the American Saints. The
prayers offered by these people, who were once active
in our community and now homebound, are a powerful
force of interceding with God for those who are
in need. At the current time, a small group of people
is being sought who would be willing to help with
coordinating this ministry and facilitating the various
requests that are sent to the homebound Prayer
Ministers. If you are willing to help in this endeavor
or would like more information, please contact
Father Bill Koenig at the Rectory at 766-0205.

Interested in Exploring
the Catholic Faith?
Do you know someone who might
be interested in becoming a
Catholic? Are you a Catholic who
has not received the sacraments of
Eucharist and Confirmation? You
are invited to come and see what is
involved in being received into the
Catholic Church through the Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults (RCIA for short). Our next meeting
is Sunday, June 5th following the 11:00 a.m. Mass
(approximately at noon). The meeting is in the
Ministry Building Youth Room on the second floor.
This meeting is open to anyone over the age of 7 who
has not been baptized, has been baptized in another
Christian community, or is a baptized Catholic looking
to return to the faith or complete their sacraments. We
also welcome parishioners who may be interested in
sharing their faith as part of the RCIA team.

Parish Revenue Sharing
with Oceanside Christopher
Credit Union
St. Agnes has received its quarterly revenue sharing
check from the Oceanside Christopher Federal Credit
Union Parish Revenue Sharing program. Since this
program began, our parish has received a total of
$9,514! The amount we receive each quarter is
determined by the number of our parishioners who are
members of the credit union and their usage of the
Oceanside Christopher VISA credit and/or debit card.
So we want to specially thank each of you. Your credit
card usage benefits our parish and that’s great. For those
of you who are not yet members, we encourage you to
consider joining and getting a credit card. For more

The IRA Charitable
Rollover is back and is
now permanent !
What’s called a rollover is actually a “qualified charitable distribution”
that can be made to our Parish.
If…
1. You are at least 70 1/2 years old on the date you make your gift
2. Your IRA is a traditional or Roth
3. You don’t exceed your personal maximum of $100,000 per year in qualified charitable
distributions
You will not have to report your distribution as income. It will be free of federal
and New York State income tax, and it will count toward your required minimum
distribution (RMD).
The best way for you to start is with your IRA custodian. Tell them you want to make a
“qualified charitable distribution”. In most cases you will only have to fill out a simple
form.
VERY IMPORTANT!! Your gift must go directly from your IRA to the Parish. If you
receive the money first then you’ll be taxed on it like any other distribution.
Example: Mrs. Connors, age 76, has $125,000 in a traditional IRA and would like to
contribute $5,000 to her Parish in 2016. Upon hearing of the Charitable IRA Rollover
opportunity, she directs the custodian of her IRA to transfer this amount not later than
December 31, 2016 directly to the Parish as a 2016 gift. She will not be subject to income
tax on her $5,000 qualified charitable
distribution.
