Do I plan to share my time and talents “later?” Today’s Gospel warns those who are procrastinating about stewardship to be prepared— “at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.” Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who recognize that giving and sharing are not a burden, but rather an opportunity to experience—every day— the deep satisfaction that can only be found by serving in the name of Jesus. Sharing One’s Material Resources in the Parish St. Monica Parents Intercession Prayer Group St. Monica Parents Intercession Prayer Group meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Holy Cross Chapel, located in the Parish Ministries building. Our next meeting will be on August 18, 2016. For more information call Mary at (516) 375-0738. Communion for the Gluten Intolerant Because of the vacation schedules of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Communion under both species is suspended during the summer months. For those who have gluten intolerance, a chalice with the Precious Blood will be ministered at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday evening. This will go through the summer. Please also know that low gluten hosts are also available at all Masses. One should stop in the sacristy before Mass to arrange for this type of host to be consecrated. Sign-Up for Choir Music Ministry has been busy organizing for next year’s choir season. Please consider joining our Men, Teen, and Boys Choir, and/or the Chorale (Adults and Teen Girls and Boys). For those who can sing for weekday funerals please consider joining the Resurrection Choir. For more information, please contact Mr. Bower in Music Ministry at (516) 764-9578, ext. 203. Please Note: Save the Date! Annual Parish Party Our Annual Parish Party will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 7:00 11:00 p.m. in the Parish Center. More details to follow in upcoming bulletins. The 9:00 a.m. Mass on weekdays will be held in the Lower Hall starting Monday, August 1st, due to the noise generated from the exterior work being done on the Cathedral. Thank you for your patience. NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Religious Education Registration for 2016-2017 Anyone with a child entering 1st grade in September should have registered for our Level 1 Religious Education class. If not please do so as soon as possible in the Religious Education Office on the first floor of the Ministry Building. Please bring a copy of your child’s baptism certificate and your checkbook. Those children who have been enrolled in religious education in a different parish must obtain a transfer letter from the previous parish. If your child already attended St. Agnes Religious Education in the past you simply need to call or e-mail to let us know he or she is attending Brother Fox. If your child transferred to Brother Fox from St. Agnes School, you need to come in and fill out a form and bring a copy of your child’s baptism certificate. There is no charge for Brother Fox students since they are not attending religious education classes. We need all this information in our files, especially when the child enters 7th and 8th grade and is preparing for Confirmation. Thinking of Becoming a Catholic? You are at least 70 1/2 years old on the date you make your gift 2. Your IRA is a traditional or Roth 3. You don’t exceed your personal maximum of $100,000 per year in qualified charitable distributions You will not have to report your distribution as income. It will be free of federal and New York State income tax, and it will count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD). The best way for you to start is with your IRA custodian. Tell them you want to make a “qualified charitable distribution”. In most cases you will only have to fill out a simple form. VERY IMPORTANT!! Your gift must go directly from your IRA to the Parish. If you receive the money first then you’ll be taxed on it like any other distribution. Example: Mrs. Connors, age 76, has $125,000 in a traditional IRA and would like to contribute $5,000 to her Parish in 2016. Upon hearing of the Charitable IRA Rollover opportunity, she directs the custodian of her IRA to transfer this amount not later than December 31, 2016 directly to the Parish as a 2016 gift. She will not be subject to income tax on her $5,000 qualified charitable distribution. This information is not intended and should not be construed as legal, tax or investment advice.
