in construction and facility management
in construction and facility management ONSTRUCTION AND FACILITY MANAGEMEN The need to share information is increasing Whether you are working with new construction, renovation of buildings or work as a subcontractor with support functions, you are without a doubt aware of the need to document all the processes and be able to easily retrieve archived information. Without an effective asset management solution, your project teammates could easily end up doing double work – taking duplicate pictures and documenting processes that have already been handled by someone else. Why is DAM (Digital Asset Management) important for you: • A common entry point for all people involved in the project • Easy access to all shared assets – pictures, documents and project plans • Powerful management to allow users to contribute and share assets • Quick and easy uploading of new files from a client to the project archive • GPS positioning information and historical records on the images • Project staff can easily re-use archived material, e.g. through the Microsoft Office plugins Upload an image from your iPhone to a central server on-the-fly Need to share a picture quickly? Take a picture using your iPhone and add metadata (search words) when uploading. The GPS position is automatically set. Choose the archive to upload to and that’s it. The image is available in the archive in seconds. This way, you can instantly monitor the progress of your projects and make the information available to your clients. Different users may have different requirements when it comes to metadata or search criteria. Also, in one company there can be a wide range of departments that require access to different parts of the archived media. FotoWare solutions are extremely scalable in this respect, and there are many different ways to export and import information. Most actions can be automated to help make sure that material is stored in the right place and made available to the right people. The use of uniform tools secures that relevant information is stored with the files in the archive. This is important to be able to track where the files originate and who they were intended for. Everyone in the department can immediately use the uploaded files, for example in a project presentation. Special plugins for Microsoft Office let you search your projects directly and drop in pictures and video clips that you would like to use. You can also crop and rotate pictures on the fly when inserting them in the presentation. The time when you needed to burn a CD, send it in the mail or with courier service is over. FotoWeb makes the archive available for all users as an intranet or extranet solution. The archive is available for departments in-house or abroad, depending on the access privileges that have been set. Also, you can share collections of files with clients that do not have direct access to your archives. Just add your selection to a FotoWeb album and send it by email to your client. Up to 30% of an employee’s time is spent searching for or re-inputting data that is already located within the enterprise “Enterprise Content Management Selection Guide” Daniel Figueiredo The FotoWeb site is easy to customize, for example to implement your own company logo and corporate color scheme, and it’s also possible to change the site’s appearance completely. FotoWare Since the start in 1994, FotoWare has delivered archive and workflow solutions to the Publishing industry image agencies, police departments, public administration and other professional image users.
