The water evaporates and rises to form clouds, which produce the rain. The theme for First Baptist Church of Glenarden in 2014 was “Let it Rain,” based on the Scripture found at Zechariah 10:1: “Ask the Lord for rain in the time of the latter rain. The Lord will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, grass in the field for everyone.” It is the process that brings life to earth and works similarly in the spiritual realm. The Son shines down on us, heats up our lives and creates a lifting force through the Holy Spirit. Clouds form and then His rain falls onto our lives. We asked God to send the rain into our lives, knowing that He would use trials and tribulations as clouds before pouring out His blessings. Amazing things happened in 2014 – individually and collectively as a church – as the presence of God shook the unstable air around us. The sky was clear in Kings 18 when Elijah prophesied about the sound of an abundance of rain. Know that our Lord and Savior is coming and the flood gates of heaven will open. We must never lose sight of that fact, even when going through dry seasons and periods of drought. We’re not talking about materials things, but instead God’s safety, victory, deliverance, healing, power and anointing to you and EVERYONE CONNECTED TO YOU! Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain! Jenkins Sr. was called to First Baptist Church of Glenarden in December 1989, there were approximately 500 members. Now, after a quarter-century of service at his childhood church, FBCG has 118 ministries, a vibrant Institutes with seven-days-a-week classes and a 4,000-seat sanctuary that sits on 160 acres. Those are just a few reasons that folks flocked to the Worship Center for a special Tuesday night program, in celebration of Pastor and First Lady Trina Jenkins’ fruitful tenure at this branch of Zion. “Sometimes I wonder if I’m going to wake up one morning and find I’m not the pastor of First Baptist,” Pastor Jenkins said. “This experience has been a dream. “I cannot describe how God has blessed my life. It brings tears to my eyes.” He’s not the only one with moist eyes when reflecting on the countless testimonies, souls saved and dreams fulfilled. FBCG members joined him on his special night, “Beyond My Dreams,” with tears of gratitude and thanksgiving, as well as joy and laughter. 10 First Lady Trina Jenkins made the program a surprise as much as possible and a teary-eyed Pastor Jenkins was nearly speechless when it was all over. The event began with a reception that included some of Pastor Jenkins’ food pleasures, including sliders, chicken fingers, pizza … and Twinkies! Some church members demonstrated a new dance – “The Jenkins Shuffle” – with help from the audience as people filled the aisles and joined in. Comedians Jonathan Slocumb and Small Fire provoked much laughter, which is one of Pastor Jenkins’ favorite things. Before closing out the thanksgiving-filled evening, Bishop William S. Murphy III turned it into an instant worship service. 11 CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRIES Reverend William S.
