The Sydney Hash House Harriers Smiley’s Posh Chronicle Run Date: July 13th Run No. 2506 Run No 2506: Bumcrack & Tyre Fruck – an Erskineville Experience After last week’s miserable turnout, Tyre Fruck and Bumcrack were hopeful of a better turnout from the Posh – maybe the cheap meals and heavily discounted wine would be an enticement to drive across the bridge to Tyre Fruck’s past life as a restauranteur extraordinaire or otherwise known as the Gastonomic King of the Newtown strip. Tyre Fruck knew the area well, however after setting the run twice ( as did Bumcrack), he could have run it blindfolded! Whilst there was no snow around, the evening was supercooled but that was not enough to stop a excellent sized pack – Grape graced us with his presence ( good to see you mate 2 weeks in a row), Poly & Druid returned after some health issues and Duck Weave was back from cruising in North America. Talking about cruising, Music Man was looking as sprightly as ever after sailing in the Med as noted last week in the Chronicle .It was also good to see Colonel Sanders( back from NZ? Or was it the Channel Islands or Bermuda ) and Goonshow fresh from counselling Ed Miliband after losing the unlosable election to the Conservatives. It was approaching 6.30 as SBends, the techno & Facebook King of the Posh was still trying to set his GPS to Erskineville as was Benny the Swede, making the torteous trip from Parramatta. . Spud led the 40 or so Hashmen off down Park Street then across Henderson Parade as Benny the Swede was unleashing some pent up traffic snarl frustration, together with Superglue who was keen not to spread his winter cold to the pack and Plunger back with vengeance. The trail crossed over Henderson Parade into the Australian Technology Park which was previously the Everleigh Railway Workshops which God Knows would have visited when it was a going concern – Your Choice, one of the deep thinkers of the hash, lamented the days when Australia had manufacturing industries and the railway union was making sure it’s feather bedding would eventually ensure the workshops doom! – Nautilus thought, at least we have the Submarine Corporation ensuring my company get lots of maintenance work!! Past the Channel 7 Studios the trail went as Kitty Litter, looking fit and sprightly was yearning for the day when he and Ayatollah could appear in a mini- series about New York Lawyers ( ref C hronicle # 2458) With a clever check at Cornwallis Lane , synonymous with the rout at Yorktown, the trail went around Vice Chancellor Oval then down Mitchell Road where some of the pack of Druid, Frenchie, Duckweave and SBends ( finally got his GPS to work) were confronted by the pro motor vehicle Mayor, Clover Moore, advertising At Erskineville Oval the walkers comprising of Centrepoint, Goonshow +walking stick, SBends Baron Von Drut, Grape, Yakkity Yak and JT R peeled off to an early bucket in Erskineville Park being manned by the expectant Hares of Bumcrack and T yre Fruck as well as early birds Druid, and Colonel Sanders. Meanwhile the balance of the pack including including Maximus Minimus, Captain Bligh, Moishe, Pay-Ling, WC and Wraparound were off down Euston Road adjacent to the leafy climes of Sydney Park. The route nearly brought tears to White Shit’s, Jungle Jim’s and Calici Virus’s eyes as they reminisced about the lost opportunities at the Botany Bay’s 1500 dirty dancing night – how could they forget that night! It was not long before the pack was back at the bucket with Pilko assuming the iridescent man this week, while Jungle Jim, deep in concentration, was getting some pointers from Music Man about sailing on a yacht with an all- girl crew It was off to the Swanson ( previously K urrajong) Hotel for excellent value $12 meals ( it was worth the drive) washed down by the well- priced wine and beers. Vice President White Shit and vice vice President Centrepoint, presented the Hares for a down down for an excellent non A to B run ( hear hear said Grape) and a 1 hour monologue cum sell from Tic Toc about the merits of The 75 t h Season of Sinatra hosted by the Music Man and his good self Well done Bumcrack & Tyre Fruck - An excellent turn out in some interesting inner territory ,surprisingly easy to get to from the north shore and well priced nosh & vino The Chronicler was on the ground doing some more research for the next week’s hares – who can guess this location ? The medieval fortress and prison in Paris known as the Bastille represented royal authority in the center of Paris. The prison contained just seven inmates at the time of its storming but was a symbol of the abuses of the monarchy: its fall was the flashpoint of the French Revolution. The origins of the storming was started when King Louis XVI convened the Estate General The 1st Estate represented the Catholic Clergy of 10,000 who paid No taxes but owned 10% of French land The 2nd Estate were 400,000 nobles who also paid no taxes , The 3rd Estate represented 25million common people who did pay taxes Together these Estates formed the National Assembly. The dismissal of the Finance minister, James Necker by Louis ( who championed limited consitutional monarchy) inflamed Parisions which led to the stroming of the Bastille and led to a 10 year of bloody rebellion finishing in 1805 whereafter Napoleon tooj the reinfs until 1814 Within 25 years of the initial Bastille, July 14, 1789, the House of Bourbon had resumed its gilded thrown with Louis XVIII in 1814 Literary Corner Harper Lee and “To Kill a Mockingbird” – published July 1960- 55 years young After nearly 55 years since publishing “To kill a Mockingbird” in July 1960, Lee Harper is set to launch her second book at the age of 89!.Th highly anticipated sequel is to be called “ Go set a Watchmen” and is set in the 1950’s. Some of the characters are from her 1st novel 20 years on. Lee was born in Monroeville, Alabama in 1926 and her father was a distinguished lawyer, member of the State Legislature as well as partly owning a newspaper business. Controversy erupted soon after Harper Collins Publishers announced the rights to publish a newly discovered unpublished 60 year novel. – sounds like good promotion for the new novel ! Harper Lee remains an enigma as one of the most famous authors for a single novel. Joke Corner Proudly showing off his newly-leased downtown apartment to a couple of friends late one night, a severely, under-the-weather Maori led the way to his bedroom where there was a big brass gong hanging on the wall. 'What's that big brass gong for?' one of the friend's asked. 'Issss nod a gong. Issss a talking Australian clock' he slurred. 'A talking Australian clock - seriously?' 'Yup.' 'Hmmm (hic).' 'How's it work?' the second friend asked, squinting at it. 'Just watch' he said. He picked up a hammer, gave the gong an 'ear-shattering bash' and stepped back. His three mates stood looking at one another for a moment in astounded silence. Suddenly, a Australian voice from the other side of the wall screamed, 'For f*#k's sake, you stupid pr#ck. It's ten past three in the f*#king morning !!!' Sleeping with a Dentist A guy and a girl meet at a bar. They get along so well that they decide to go to the girl's place. A few drinks later, the guy takes off his shirt and then washes his hands. He then takes off his trousers and again washes his hands. The girl has been watching him and says, "You must be a dentist." The guy, surprised, says, "Yes .... How did you figure that out?" "Easy," she replies. "You keep washing your hands." One thing leads to another and they make love. After it's over the girl says, "You must be a really good dentist." The guy, now with an inflated ego, says, "Sure - I'm a good dentist. How did you figure that out?" The girl replies.... "I Didn't feel a thing." Druid’s Boobs Corner Where does he get these from – it’s a struggle to research! But someone has to do it! On On Smiley
