Cynthia Lopez, President 2011-2012 Celebrate Rotary Number 50 for the Week of June 14, 2012 President Cyndy’s Year End Report The program was presented by President Cyndy who Contreras; “Mentor of the Year”-Luis Plancarte shared with her fellow Rotarians the accomplishments of District/International: and activities for her year as President. Cyndy broke down Successful District Assembly-Imperial Valley (Thank her presentation to: Club Activities, Commuity Activities/ you Sebio!) Partnerships, District Acitvities, Youth Activities and Club Grants seminar participation Fellowship. Paul Harris Gala attendance District Conference participation Club Activity: Continued support of PolioPlus Total Club Members: 93; 12 new members with 1 Thousand Smiles Grant participation pending; Net 9 new members Global Grant participation (Microsoft)-School Computer 1 Paul Harris Society Member-Mitch Selking Lab- India (approaching Major Donor Status) Youth activity: 8 new Paul Harris Fellows Continued Interact participation (Gates Millennium 5 new Paul Harris Sustaining Members Scholar Recipient was the Interact President of SW El Centro Rotary Foundation High) Club Legacy continues (Brock Brothers become PH RYLA participation (Thank you Veronica!) IVYPO Professional Leaders Awards Dinner- Winners CODGERS BBQ and Rotarians “YPO Leader of the Year” Gabe Announcements Edgar Aguilar sent the sign-up sheet around for the “Kick out” dinner to be held this year on Wednesday evening June 27th at the PAL facility. Carlos Figari announced the 2012 Imperial Valley College and Partners Business Conference on June 26th. SIGN UP FOR THE “KICK OUT” DINNER TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, 2012 Come and say Good bye to Cyndy and hello to Ryan Paul Harris Fellow Awarded President Cyndy and Ed Snively presented three new PHFawards this week, this time to Ryan Childers on behalf of his wife Allison and to Matt and, Isabella Plourd. The El Centro Rotary Club has had excellent participation this year in the RI Foundation and PHF Award Program with 8 new members. The El Centro Rotary Club meets on Thursday noon at the PAL facility 1100 North 4th Street When you miss Rotary, you miss out! POT The pot was one by the PAC (pot again campaign) of Henderson, Hindman, Barros and Johnson. Dale Johnson was selected by his PAC to draw for the red chip, however, no luck and the big pot remains for another week. The winning pot was $287 with the “big pot” at over $2100. PLEDGE, PRAYER AND SONG The pledge was led by Jenn Thomason, the prayer was offered by Bob Mapes and Neal Hitch playing the guitar led the song. Whining and Fining Ryan Childers was called before President Cyndy to clear his fines for the year. Ryan, the incoming President attended the Rotary International Conference in Thailand after first traveling to Bejing and Hong Kong. Ryan paid $150 to the club for fines and another $150 towards a PHF for his son Will. Jack Tyler appears to be living a boring life having taken “NO trips and having nothing in the works” he has made some weekend jaunts to San Diego. Jack paid a $100 fine. Bob Mapes recently returned from a trip to Colorado and New Mexico where he “looked at holes in rocks” he did not see Norm this trip and revealed that Norm is no longer involved in Rotary and “he has now made a 180 degree turn ” at which somebody replied, “his jokes are now funny.” Bob has travel plans this summer for a visit to Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Bob finished off his fines for the year to the tune of $100. Dan Williams paid the price for his son’s engagement, the date is set and Dan paid $150. Steve Birdsall returned from his fifth fishing trip to Lareto since January. Cyndy suggested he pay $20 per trip at which time he donated $100 towards his PHF. Gerard Delaney proudly announced that the home Company of IV Press was starting a Curriculum Based Newspaper and that it would be started in the Imperial Valley. Gerard paid $100 for his good news. SPECIAL AWARDS President Cyndy gave out some special awards, the first going to Gunther Chin for being the most improved Rotarian, Gunther became something other than a RINO (Rotarian In Name Only) this year, helping with highway cleanup, actually attending meetings, and helping scribe for the bulletin. Gabe aka Gabby Baby was honored for not only participating in all of the club activities, but also for being selected the IVYPO Young Professional of The Year. Dan Nuffer and Lee Hindman were honored for their perfect attendance. Randy Miles was honored for his work with “Thousand Smiles” and for the clubs matching donation to the program. Each of the honorees were given a Rotary TShirt Visiting Rotarians and Guests of Rotarians Dan the man Nuffer introduced the visiting Rotarians that seem to be regulars, well as long as the pot is still available, those visiting included: David Cason from the Imperial Breakfast Club and from the Holtville Club we welcomed Richard Acosta. Rotarians with guests included Dr. Loo who introduced his fiancé, Cassie Pillsbury from Maine but who has recently located to El Centro. Dan Williams introduced his son Dru, whose meal was being paid for by Ryan Childers, or something like that. Bill Plourd introduced his wife Marybelle and children, son Matt and daughter Isabella. Lanny Foote introduced new Attorney Robbie Contreras who will be working for Horton, Knox, Carter and Foote Robbie will be traveling between El Centro and San Diego, happy dad, Matt applauded loudly. Dale Johnson introduced an associate from the Brawley Office of the Sun Community Credit Union WELCOME! PROPOSED MEMBER Christopher J. Plourd has been approved by the Rotary Board for proposed membership. Chris has recently been appointed by the Governor as a Superior Court Judge for the County of Imperial. Chris has valley roots having attended Central High School along with his brothers and sister. Chris has a distinguished career as a trial attorney and is a recognized expert in DNA evidence. Chris is being proposed by Chris Yeager in the classification of Law-Judge. If you have not already done so, please take a minute and introduce yourself to Chris.
