UZ750 achieves 1.2 million hours NO
LTI
The UZ750 Project achieved One Million work hours
without a recordable injury at the end of April 2012.
By the end of September 2012, the Project has
achieved more than 1.8 Million work hours without
a recordable injury.
This significant safety milestone was achieved by
the Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT)
and its Contractors. This includes personnel from
ZADCO, the Project Management Consultant AMEC
and the Front End Engineering Development (FEED)
contractor Technip.
“From the beginning of the Project,” Jim Reisz, the
UZ750 Project HSES Manager explains “the Project Leadership Team has consistently stressed the
importance of creating a positive safety culture and
expects that all IPMT members actively spread this
culture to the contractor workforce.
At its heart, this safety culture is built upon a duty
of all IPMT members to be “Safety Leaders.” Examples of this are the regular HSE observations of both
positive and “at risk” behaviors and conditions.
When at risk situations are observed, Project personnel “Approach Others” to correct the situation.
Early Civil Works contractor, Al Jaber Energy Services, started accumulating work hours on the
Project soon after the One Million safe work hours
milestone was achieved, but since then have contributed approximately 600,000 work hours without
a recordable incident.
When a person is approached in a positive manner
to express concern for their welfare, that person
becomes more aware of potential hazards and is
more likely to approach his or her co-workers in a
similar manner.
During the period from September 2010 through
September 2012, only four minor first aid incidents
were incurred, with no medical treatment cases,
restricted work cases or lost time injuries.
In this way, everyone becomes a safety leader and
we “Grow Our Safety Army”. This approach is contagious and the objective is to spread this culture to
everyone associated with the UZ750 Project so that
“everybody is safe”.

The Zirku and head office engineers brainstormed
this strategy, examined several options and finally
concluded objectively to the selected option taking
into account HSE, Economics and reliability aspects.

Pipelines.
In this respect, ZADCO has successfully
conducted its S/D process to achieve the
following objectives;
To maintain its assets to meet process safety.
To optimize economical benefits.
To achieve integrity assurance.
To ensure continuity of its oil & gas flow without impacting environment.
While conducting S/D, companies often reduce
their production which in turn may have significant impact on the world energy demand.
Knowing the importance of ZADCO shutdown,
the Bloomberg news agency broadcasted in its
TV program on 25th March 2012 that “ZADCO
output at HYPERLINK “http://topics.bloomberg.

field may decline by about 20 percent when it
conducts planned maintenance in May”.
The jump over from Fuel gas Scrubber inlet line
to the Export Gas Compressor Inlet line was introduced. Gas Stabilization by-pass approach was
studied carefully by highly experienced engineering
team within the company .
Apart from this scheme the LPG drain vessels have
been modified and the outlet has been connected to
the compressor suction header for gas recovery.
The by-pass method has allowed the company to
maintain its full production capacity while carrying
out the planned maintenance.
Having visited Zirku site, ADNOC and ZADCO management appreciated this strategy and the entire
technical work.
Until recently S/D philosophy meant stopped
or reduced production during the shutdown
process. This is not the case with the introduction of a new concept implemented by ZADCO
at Zirku Island. By-passing the Gas Stabilization
unit has eliminated the need to reduce the pro-

ADNOC and OPCOs celebrated the achievement of the
Unified Supplier Registration and Prequalification Procedure
(USRPP).
ZADCO, GASCO, ADMA-OPCO and ADCO representatives to the evevt.
ADNOC and OPCO’s (ZADCO, GASCO, ADMA and
ADCO) gathered in GASCO’s ‘Al-Remal Club’ to
celebrate the key achievement of post implementation review and enhancement of the
USRPP which was signed by ADNOC and OPCOs
Commercial Managers on 11/06/2012.
This Business Process Outline describes how
the Inter-OPCOs “Unified Registration and
Pre-Qualification Process” (UPQP) is integrated
into ZADCO Corporate Governance.
What is USRPP:
USRPP has three main components that include the Pre-Qualification requirements per
ZADCO’s business planning/budget process,
Unified Pre-qualification “day-to-day” process
as agreed by ADNOC Group of companies and
Interface with other ZADCO’s processes targeting systematic improvement.
ZADCO set a number of criterion which specify
that; all suppliers and contractors who wish to
do business with ZADCO shall be registered;
their prequalification is based on business
need; coordination with other OPCOs about
suppliers/contractors already included for
fast-track UPQ; estimate the number of Suppliers to be pre-qualified for next year and the

next five years; propose roadmap with milestones and
accountabilities; establish measures for KPIs; Align PQ
criteria with ADNOC & its Group of companies sustainability charter and communicate with Suppliers on a
timely basis and at the earliest stage.
The major outcomes of this process are:
• Reaching an advance level results of bidder’s
prequalification evaluation among ADNOC and OPCOs
which will enable each OPCO to update contents of
the bidder’s list by adding competent new bidders
from the list of other OPCOs.
• Ability to identify miscellaneous commodities and
suppliers of certain types that have become exempt
from the Prequalification process in order to smooth
the daily miscellaneous purchase of non-technical
materials and services.
• Attention to be given to the significant enhancement
of scope and values of the work groups classification
criteria that has become more consistent with the
OPCO projects and operations.
• Establishing ground rules for actions related to
‘defaulted’ supplier performance and a suspension/
release forms have been created to be shared by
ADNOC and OPCOs.
This effort was appreciated by participants. Special
thanks have been extended to the task force team
leader, Mr. Mohammed Salem from ZADCO, and the other
ADNOC and OPCO teams.

Ear pain during air travel
Many people get ear pain when they take a flight,
especially when the plane comes in to land. But
the pain usually goes away once they›re on the
ground.
While many people fly thousands of miles and
never experience a problem with pressure or
pain in their ears, others are in agony after just
a short flight. Whether you have the occasional
problem or a chronic one -- especially during
takeoff and landing -- choose to use one or more
methods to reduce your likelihood of suffering
from «airplane ear pain»
What happens in ear pain during air travel?
When flying, it›s possible to experience ear
barotraumas, the discomfort or even pain that
results from a dramatic difference in air pressure between the inner ear and the exterior.
The changes in altitude and resulting changes in
air pressure within the airplane cabin can prove
particularly bothersome to some individuals. A
tendency toward allergies, colds or respiratory infections can increase your chances of experiencing this discomfort. Blockage of the eustachian
tubes, in the inner ear, or a swollen throat may
also increase the chances of barotrauma. Luckily,
several techniques can help relieve the problem.
Dealing with your own ear pain during a flight›s
takeoff and landing is difficult enough without
watching your child suffer through it. Unfortunately, ear pain is especially common in children
since the Eustachian tubes that help our ears
adjust to changing air pressure are smaller in
children. Don›t wait until you board the plane to
prepare your child for the possibility of discomfort. You›ll need to pack some pain busters in
your carry-on and may even need to consult your
child›s doctor before your trip.
Zadco July - August - September 2012
What are the symptoms?
Some people get a lot of pain in their ears when
they fly, especially during take-off and
landing. But these symptoms usually go away soon
after landing.
As well as feeling painful, your ears may also feel
blocked. You might feel dizzy when
you stand up, and have problems hearing. Some
people get ‘ringing’ in the ears
What treatments work?
If your ears are blocked because you have cold or
another infection, it may be better
not to fly. But you may not want to, or be able to,
cancel a holiday or business trip for
this reason. If you have to fly with a cold or with a
blocked ear, there are treatments you
can try to reduce your chances of getting ear pain
during the flight.
• Medicines
If you are an adult, taking a decongestant tablet or
syrup before a flight can help you avoid ear pain.
But there’s not enough research to suggest if this
treatment works for children. You’ll need to take
the decongestant half an hour before take-off.
• Things you can do yourself
There’s no research into these techniques, but you
might find them helpful. Yawning,
swallowing, or blowing hard while pinching your
nose may help reduce the pressure in your ears. You
should feel your ears ‹pop›. Sucking boiled sweets
during the flight may help you to swallow more
often.

Accepted Pilgrimage (Hajj)
Hajj is one of the
pillars of Islam and for
many Muslims it is the ultimate journey of a lifetime. It is,
therefore, absolutely essential that
Muslim should be well prepared for
this obligation.
Allah, the Al Mighty, says: “Pilgrimage thereto is a duty men owe to ALLAH, those who can
afford the journey.
Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) says: “ Penance is
there from one Umrah (minor Hajj) to the next.
Accepted Hajj into the Grace of God will not be
rewarded except by Paradise.”
This is why Hajj is one of the major pillars and
principles of Islam. It has been widely agreed
upon by Muslim scholars as a duty to be performed at least once in a life time when affordable. It is not required to be undertaken
repeatedly as it is hard to do so beside the
vicinity of holly place of Hajj (Ka’aba) is such
small place to accommodate for large number
of pilgrims should they wish to perform Hajj at
one time.
Hajj provides many great benefits and advantages to pilgrims to get and witness while
performing their hajj rituals such as getting
to know each other’s and meet other pilgrims
from all walks of life and nationalities who may
not meet otherwise. Most often, this gathering
brings about closer relationships, harmony and
cooperation.
If Hajj is performed properly, the pilgrim would

get his reward (Paradise) in the hereafter, while, in this
life, benefits will be manifested in his/her behavior towards others and has the characteristics of benign such
as honesty, trustworthiness, endurance, patience, generosity, do good deeds, love and altruism, do no harm to
others, transcend pettiness, avoid all sins and wrongdoings being minor or major, avoid controversy, hypocrisy,
dissension, disagreement, and differences as well as
violations and heterodoxies.
Accepted Hajj should meet the following criterion:
• t should be fully dedicated to the Al Mighty Allah and
not to gain financial benefits, prestige, site-seeing
or merely as an epithet. The intention should, therefore, be to come closer to the merciful God and to
seek his Paradise.
• It should be performed in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohamed (PBUH), hence, avoid
heresy.
• Financial expenses should be gained legally otherwise it may not be accepted by Allah as some scholars say.
• All pilgrimage duties should be fulfilled.
• Wrong doings should be avoided.
