KidSport Edmonton had its 20th anniversary in 2015 – and what a year it was. KidSport Edmonton had
a busy and fruitful 2015, supporting 2,029 kids - an increase of 37% from 2015. This equated to a record
$354,821 distributed in sport registration fees to partner sport organizations. In order to ensure the ongoing
success and sustainability of the KidSport program, KidSport focused on a number of areas in the past year.
Developing new and strengthening existing partnerships was an important focus. KidSport Edmonton and
the Edmonton Minor Soccer Association renewed our partnership that allows for cost sharing for soccer
registration fees. We also established new partnerships, such as with the Free Footie program and the
Edmonton Minor Hockey Association Alumni.
The Board focused on the financial sustainability of the organization and made the decision to further build
on our reserves, which will continue to be important in a time of increased need for Edmonton families.
Specifically, the Board has chosen to dedicate funds to an Endowment Fund with the Edmonton Community
Foundation to establish an annual revenue source to support the organization. Funds were also dedicated
to an internal reserve fund to ensure sustainability in tough times, if required.
KidSport Edmonton looked to enhance sponsorships and fundraising initiatives in 2015. Our Bids for Kids
event provided a venue to establish many new corporate partners. This event continues to set records in
attendance and funds raised for our chapter. The 2015 event netted KidSport Edmonton over $50,000 to
assist with the KidSport program. We were also invited to participate in Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink, a program that allows up to 50% matching funds to be provided to each charity who is involved. It is
important for us to thank the Foote Family who contributed significant funds to KidSport Edmonton in 2015
– funds used to keep up with the growing demand of the program.
The Board and staff continued to look for ways to improve organizational effectiveness. This includes putting
in place succession plans for the Board of Directors and bringing new volunteer talent into the organization
via committee work.
KidSport Edmonton continued to work closely with KidSport Alberta as well as our sister chapter KidSport
Calgary, focusing on a number of areas including organizational effectiveness and fundraising initiatives.
There were a number of advocacy opportunities in 2015 including involvement with Edmonton’s Poverty
Reduction Strategy and Active Recreation and Sport Strategy Consultation.
Thanks to our many supporters in 2015 – we look forward to another successful year, ensuring all kids can play!

This group highlights some of our top partners and donors from 2015. However, we are extremely fortunate to have a
wide variety of supporters, that make it possible for our chapter to make a difference in the lives of the kids we support.
We are very grateful for every single donor and partner that supports our great cause each year.
MESSAGE FROM
THE TREASURER
//
2015 proved to be a very busy year for KidSport Edmonton, both on the expense and revenue side of the equation.
KidSport saw an increase of 63% in funding and expenses, largely due to an increase in the demand for our services.
Despite a difficult year in the local economy, KidSport’s revenues have increased at a healthy pace, experiencing growth
of 15% year over year. The results are in line with the projections set by the Board, which purposely set out to expand
funding and draw on the organization’s cash position.
Increases in the revenue side of the equation are largely due to generous grants from the Eldon and Anne Foote Family,
through the Edmonton Community Foundation, and the Stollery Family Foundation. Third party events remained strong for
the year and are seen to be an area of steady growth. KidSport Edmonton’s Bids for Kids event continues to be a reliable
source of revenue during the busy fall registration period. A dedicated Fund Development Committee was established
in 2015 which enabled our chapter to make strides in this area. The end of 2015 also brought a new partnership with the
Edmonton Minor Hockey Association Alumni that will support hockey registrations for children into the future.
The increase in expenses in 2015 was largely the result of a sharp increase in the demand for KidSport’s services.
Applications increased 37% and total registration fee funding increased 67%, over 2014 statistics due to increased
awareness for the KidSport program, the downturn in the Alberta economy and an increase in our funding amount to $250/
child/year from $200/child/year. Operating expenses rose due to the hiring of a full time Program Manager to support our
continued outreach programs, events and increased administrative requirements.
The Board of Directors has continued its commitment to financial sustainability and is pleased to say that, after a substantial contribution to a reserve account, KidSport Edmonton now sits with 6 months of operating funds available to be used
in times of financial need. This is an important step in securing the long term sustainability of the organization. The Board
also remains committed to growing the KidSport Edmonton Endowment Funds with the Edmonton Community Foundation
and aims to continue making a yearly contribution to these funds.
KidSport Edmonton’s successes in 2015 have largely translated into a more favourable financial position for our organization. Net
assets grew by 30% which is very beneficial, given the economic outlook for 2016. KidSport Edmonton has assumed a continued
increase in the demand for registration fee grants due to the economy and the influx of Syrian Refugees into Edmonton.
We are very happy that families requiring our support are finding our doors and ensuring that their kids get to play the sport
of their choice. We look forward to helping many more in 2016!

EDMONTON UPDATE
BOARD
MEMBERS
//
//
Since launching in 1995, KidSport Edmonton has provided sport opportunities to 12,720 kids and distributed more
than $1.82 million towards sport registration fees. KidSport Edmonton had yet another record breaking year both in
terms of number of children funded and dollars raised through fundraising efforts. 2015 saw new organizations and
companies choose KidSport Edmonton as their charity of choice for their fundraising events. With more and more
families relying on our organization, the support from these events is critical to our ability to assist these families.
The voluntary Board of directors provides leadership and vision to KidSport Edmonton. The Board concerns itself
with policy direction and decisions, ensuring sound financial planning and supporting fundraising efforts geared
toward making sure that ALL Kids Can Play. The following individuals are sincerely thanked for their time,
commitment and dedication to KidSport Edmonton.

Funds that are generated in Edmonton stay within Edmonton to help ensure local kids are able to participate in the
sport of their choice. KidSport Edmonton is able to provide consistent support across the city and offer a level playing
field so all kids in Edmonton can play – regardless of their financial situation.
HOW TO GET
INVOLVED //
KidSport Edmonton would not exist if it weren’t for the support of our incredible volunteers. It’s people like our volunteers
who make a real difference for the youth in our community. By volunteering for KidSport Edmonton, you are helping kids
in Edmonton get off the sidelines and into their game/activity of choice. A little bit of your time can equal a season of
sport for a child in need, allowing them to explore a sport for the first time, or continuing to build skills in one they love
already. Events and tasks can range from road races to 50-50’s to networking events. If you like variety and most
importantly, have a desire to help kids in Edmonton, then this is the opportunity for you!
