SATURDAY August 20 Saint Bernard 8:15am 4pm 5pm Daily Mass Confessions Vigil Mass SUNDAY August 21 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time 7:15am Confession 8am Sunday Mass 9:15am Confession 10am Sunday Mass On August 15th, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is certain that the whole host of angels came today to meet the most Blessed Mary. They found her in the world and they bore her from the world. But she, although she saw the brightness of the angels and their glory and blessedness, she was still not satisfied with that. Instead, she longed to see him whom alone she loved above everything. And therefore she says, Have you seen him whom my soul loves? And she adds: Scarcely had I left them behind when I met him whom my soul loves. O blessed soul, who left behind not only the patriarchs and prophets, the Apostles, martyrs, confessors, and virgins, but also the angels, thrones, and dominations, the cherubim and seraphim and all heaven’s array, and so reached her dearest Son. Then she utterly found him whom now her soul loves utterly. She found him and she held him. I held him, she says, and I will not let him go. She held him and she holds him and she will never let him go. She holds him in the embraces of an utterly perfect love, and she can never lose him because she can never love him any less. Let us lift up our hearts therefore, brothers, to our Lady, our Advocate. Let us reflect on how much hope we can have in her. Just as she surpasses every creature in excellence, so also she is more merciful and kinder than any creature. Let us then confidently entreat her who can by her excellence assist us and by her mercy chooses to do so, that she may implore her Son for us so that as he deigned to be born of her for us, he may through her deign to have mercy on us, who lives and reigns with the Father and Holy Spirit through all ages of ages. Amen.
