A little history on the Elks. Wherever you go in
the Country, you will find an Elks Lodge. With
more than 850,000 Elk members and 2,000
lodges nationwide, Elks are providing charitable
services that help build stronger communities.
You should be proud to be an Elk.
We will be booking The Jolly Corks, a new sing
along Musical, at our Lodge in the Fall. You will
love it!! The JOLLY CORKS, not only shares the
story of how The Elks came to be, but you will
hear familiar songs that you can tap your feet and
sing along! Maybe, even get up and dance!! The
JOLLY CORKS, is based on historical fact and imaginative comic joy,
celebrating the ELKS founder, Charles Vivian, and his cohort, Richard Stierly.
Look for the date.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Grover Keeney and Elizabeth
Shaw for doing a great job in remodeling the back game room. The next
time you are at the Lodge, go see how beautiful it looks!
A Big thank you to Charles Jancura for a great job done on putting together
the Scholarship Dinner that was held on May 1. And, thank you Charles for
chairing past Scholarship Committees. Charles will be giving up chairing the
Scholarship Committee, but he will continue to chair the Hoop Shoot Committee. Craig and Carole Ingram will replace Charles as chairman of the
Scholarship Committee, and I know they will do a great job. And thank you
Stephanie Salay for a great job on the Drug Awareness Poster Contest.
Other events that occurred and were a big success were the Derby Day
Party on May 7, the Mother’s Day Breakfast on May 8 and the PER’s
Spaghetti Dinner on May 9. A special thank you to all the volunteers and the
PER’s for a job well done on the Spaghetti Dinner.
Your lodge needs your help. The same people are getting burned out and if
you could donate just a few hours a month, it would help greatly. We are
not a social club, we are an Elks Lodge. Without volunteers we could not
survive.
“Never let someone who has done nothing

Elk of the Month
Frank Hayes
Frank Hayes has been a member of
the Veterans' Committee for at least
five years. He has been Chairman for
2 years of the 30 member (+/-) committee that visits approximately 125
veterans in area nursing homes at
least monthly (in addition to the annual picnic, holidays and the Purple
Heart Breakfast). Frank represents
the Lodge's participation in the support of homeless and in-need veterans at the Mission of
Citrus. Frank also represents the Lodge on the
"Welcome Home" committee for returning veterans in
Citrus County and leads the two annual fundraisers
(Veteran's Dinner and Veteran's Christmas Tree). Frank
is a retired Major in the United States Air Force and recipient of the Purple Heart. A great job well done
Frank. Thank you for all that you do for the veterans.
Flag Day Ceremony
June 14
The Order of Elkdom is distinctly
American. All members and guests are
invited to show your support for your
Country, your Flag and your Veterans by
attending the annual Flag Day Ceremony
and Ritual on Tuesday, June 14, 2015 at
11:00 AM, in the Lodge room. A light
lunch will be provided afterward.
FATHERS DAY BREAKFAST BUFFET
JUNE 19
A breakfast buffet prepared by Chef
Dave will be held from 9am to noon as
a tribute to all fathers.
Members and guests are welcome.
Dads eat free. ($6.00 for all others).
Bloody Marys and Mimosas will be available.
Led by Chairman Frank Hayes, the Veterans Committee
hosted veterans from area assisted living facilities to a
day of fishing and fun at Fort Island Trail Park on a gorgeous day in late April. Although the big ones got away,
veterans, Elks and facility staff enjoyed burgers and hot
dogs with all the fixings, and the comradery of fellow
vets.
Veterans Committee members visit monthly with more
than 140 vets in Citrus County assisted living facilities
and help celebrate birthdays and holiday with those that
sacrificed so much for our freedoms.
3
Derby Day Fun!
More than 150 area students, parents and educators
gathered Sunday evening at the West Citrus Elks Lodge to
laud the exceptional academic and community service
achievements of seniors from Lecanto and Crystal River
High Schools. Following recognition of "Elk Student of the
Month" for the 2015-16 school year, the evening culminated with the presentation of $1,000 scholarships to two Elk
Students of the Year from each high school. Pictured along
with West Citrus Elks Exalted Ruler Anthony Schiappa (left)
and Scholarship Committee Chairman Charles Jancura are
Lauren Peters (Lecanto), Kathryn DeSomma (Crystal
River), Jason Keeran (Crystal River) and Kameron Taylor
(Lecanto).
