FET dosente staak
Friday 6 March 2009
FET dosente staak
Dosente van die Mopani se FET
Suid-Oos kampus in Phalaborwa het
verlede Dinsdag aan 'n sit staking
deelgeneem.
Solly Mongole, een van die
dosente het aan Phalaborwa Herald
vertel dat hulle Dinsdag oggend die
aantekenings register ingevul het.
Daarna het hulle met die staking
begin.
Hulle wou nie uitbrei oor die redes
R2.00c incl.
VOLUME 24 NO. 09
nie, maar daar word verneem dat dit
werks georiënteerd is.
Die dosente het al hul griewe met
die hoof uitvoerende beampte bespreek. Volgens Mongole word hulle
gedreig om afgedank te word, of om
hulle op 'n tydelike kontrak basis her
praat.
Daar word verneem dat die
dosente ongelukkig is oor twee
dosent poste wat gevul is. Daar is glo
nie vir die poste geadverteer nie,
luidens Mongale. Studente het geen
onderrig ontvang Dinsdag nie.
Nog die kampus bestuur of hoof
uitvoerende beampte was beskikbaar
Moord-vier vra borg
DIE vier verdagtes wat verbind
kan word met die moord op dr.
Paul Meyer het weer Dinsdag in
die Phalaborwa hof om borgtog
aansoek gedoen.
Die vier verdagtes het onlangs
aan ‘n uitkennings parade deelgeneem in Polokwane.
Hulle staan tereg op aanklagte
van moord, roof en voertuig diefstal.
Hulle is nie gevra om te pleit
nie.
Met ons ter perse gaan was dit
nie bekend of borg aan hulle
toegestaan is nie.

Kommunikasie-chaos
DEUR: Bertus de Bruyn.
MAANDAG was letterlik BLOU vir besighede
in Phalaborwa en omliggende area. Geen
Telkom, sellulêre of internet verbinding nie het
menige hare in die hande gelos.
Verskeie gerugte het dadelik die ronde
gedoen.
‘n ERENSTIGE diplomatieke verleentheid ivm

probleme: Die databasis in Louis Trichardt is
beskadig. Dit affekteer die hele kommunikasie
opvangsgebied van Louis Trichardt tot by
Phalaborwa. MTN gebruik Telkom se optiese
verbygaande kabels. Indien Telkom hiermee
probleme ondervind, affekteer dit ook die
opvangs van die MTN-netwerk.
Vodacom word minder hierdeur geraak.
50% van Vodacom se netwerk-konneksie is
van Polokwane, luidens ‘n area ingenieur van
‘n bekende sellulêre netwerk. Internet toegang
verwagting omstreeks 19:00, (laelading) begin

Huber se plaas was aanvanklik vir R10
miljoen rand gewaardeer.

Ben settled down with his family in
Phalaborwa in 1945 when he was only five
years old . The Van Vuuren family was one of
the first three white families to settle in
Phalaborwa.

in Suid-Afrika opgeneem. Die Suid-Afrikaanse
regering en die Duitse regering hetdie
aangeleentheid op hoë vlak bespreek.
Huber sê: "Die Suid-Afrikaanse regering kan
nie vertrou word nie." Hy sal beleggings wat hy
hier wou doen nou moet heroorweeg.
opgeklaar
DIE voortslepende dispuut tussen Mark
Scott-Crossley sy broer, Shaun en ‘n bekende
sakevrou Dagmar Krause duur voort.
Krause het luidens ‘n bekende Sondagblad
Crossley hof toe gesleep omdat hy glo peuter
voorlopige bevel uitgereik waarin Crossley
bevel by die hooggeregshof in Pretoria.
Dit word later vandeesmaand aangehoor.
Niemand beweer verder dat Scott-Crossley
twee rolletjies ogiesdraad by hom gesteel het.
Scott-Crossley ontken dit. Hy het dit blykbaar
gekoop.

Moloto is coping
Corporate Affairs Manager for SAB, Refentse Shinners, hands out a certificate to tavern owner,
Selina Ramodiba.
After months of speculation about the fate of
Limpopo Premier Sello Moloto, it can now be
revealed that he has resigned as Premier and
ANC member. Moloto resigned in order to join
the Congress of the People as its candidate for
Premier for the April 22 general elections.
At the time of going to the press, COPE’ s
national office was to host a media conference
in order to welcome Moloto as member and
face of its campaign in Limpopo.
COPE Provincial Spokesperson, Molebatsi
Masedi, confirmed that the long wait was over
and that Moloto was their man in the
province.
Masedi could however not reveal much
details about Moloto`s resignation and future.
He stated that this would be done in due
course when the former Premier is presented
to the people of Limpopo as the face of change
and hope.
Moloto has had a turbulent term as Premier,
with the ANC Youth League demanding that
he be axed both as Chairperson of the
province and as Premier.
The Youth League achieved this much when
they managed to have him removed as ANC
Provincial Chairperson in favour of Cassel
Mathale, whom they also touted as the next
Premier.
Despite sustained attacks against him, Mo-
loto remained in office and even delivered his
annual state of the province address. Many
interpreted it as his farewell speech because of
heightened speculations that he would be
leaving the ANC for COPE.
Another feather to COPE`s cap was their
acceptance of seven high profile members
from the ANC and the ACDP.
Those unveiled at a media conference on
Monday in Polokwane included leading
Phalaborwa businessman and former ANC
parliamentarian, Mannie Kriel, and former
Mayor of Modimolle Local Municipality, TT
Mohapi.
Commenting on the resignations, Masedi
said many more will still come to his party in
the buildup to the elections.
"COPE is a home for all South Africans,"
Masedi concluded.
Meanwhile, this weekend will see the COPE
presidential candidate, Dr Mvume Dandala,
taking his election campaign to Limpopo. He
will be addressing rallies and meeting with
students, businesses, religious groups and academics.
Dr Dandala will be part of the COPE national leadership delegation which will include President Mosiuoa Lekota and his
deputy, Mbhazima Shilowa.

workshop. More photos on page 4.
Trained tavern owners awarded
Fifty five tavern owners were awarded
performance certificates for their participation
in the five day long Mahlasedi workshop, held
in Mopani recently.
The workshop was conducted in Tivumbeni
in Nkowankowa outside Tzaneen and Mokwakwaila village in Bolobedu.
Mahlasedi is an initiative of South African
Breweries (SAB), and is conducted annually to
equip tavern owners with skills on how to run
their businesses efficiently and effectively.
Fifty five tavern owners from Mopani took
part in the workshop.
Corporate Affairs Manager, Refentse Shinners, said the workshop was held free of
charge. SAB has managed to train about 188
tavern owners in Limpopo through this initiative.
She said the aim of the workshop is to
educate their clients in order to be responsible
traders and not take their licensing conditions
for granted. They also aim to train their clients
on how to market their businesses successfully.
Shinners said the one big problem concerning tavern owners is their ignorance of
their own rights as owners and of those of their
customers.
"What we are trying to do is make sure that
owners adhere to their licensing conditions
and not violate them," she said.
Shinners said mentors will also be sent to
check on the progress of the tavern owners
who underwent the training.
THE first Circuit of the High Court in
Limpopo opened its doors in Polokwane on
February 27.
The Minister of Justice & Constitutional
Development, Enver Surty, opened the
court last Friday in demonstration of the
Department’s mandate to make justice
more accessible to all and to bring justice
services closer to the people.
The opening of the High Court will bring
services performed by the Director of Public
Prosecutions Office, appeals and reviews in
criminal matters, motions, and civil matters,
while expanding the services currently
offered by the Office of the Master and
Family Advocate in the Province.
The Polokwane Circuit Court of the Transvaal Provincial Division (TPD) High Court
will have five permanent judges, two for the
Criminal Courts and three for the Civil
Courts.
This court addresses concerns of civil
society.
The
Limpopo
community will no
longer have to
travel all the way to
either the Pretoria
or
Johannesburg
High Courts for,
among others, civil
matters and family law services.
This project forms a critical component of
the Department's continuing efforts to
make Access to Justice a reality for communities across the country.
The first Circuit Court in Limpopo can be
found on the corner of Landdros Murrais
and Bodenstein street, Polokwane.

Rural crafters and artists get a leg-up
Rural crafters, poets, story-tellers and
traditional musicians will take part in an
exhibition to be held at Fairview River Lodge in
Tzaneen on Thursday, March 5.
The more than 100 crafters and artists are the
beneficiaries of a R1,4 million project, which
was launched two years ago, to unearth and
develop arts and crafts in the province's
isolated rural areas.
The Heritage-based Arts, Crafts and Tourism
Development Project will hold an exhibition to
showcase their work.
"For the past two years we have been
criss-crossing the rural hinterland, looking for
ordinary people who are producing fascinating
things, which can be turned into marketable
products," said the project's field director,
Harold Kolkman.
"Most of them will be taking part in an
exhibition for the first time in their lives," he
added.
He said the group includes pottery and
jewellery entrepreneurs, traditional musicians,
poets, story-tellers, woodcarvers and basket
weavers.
They hail from isolated rural villages in
Mopani, Vhembe and Sekhukhune district municipalities, which have large populations of
Vatsonga, Bapedi and Vhavhenda-speaking
people.
The crafters and artists will receive further
training in design and product development,
helping them ensure their work is competitively priced and designed to attract tourists.
Their names, locations and products will be
included on a web site that will be launched at
the exhibition, which will market Limpopo's
rural hinterlands as tourist destinations.
The region, including its tour guides and
tourism projects, will be marketed to tourists as
the Valley of the Olifants.
"The overall aim of the project is to bring
tourism to rural communities. We want to see
our crafter and artists making a decent living
from their God-given
talents," said Kolkman.
The arts and crafts
project is funded by
the provincial government, the Mopani
District Municipality,
the
Development
Bank of Southern
Africa, the European
Union
and
state-owned minerals
research and development agency, Mintek.

or who has lost the battle with the disease.”
Spray or shave for a R50 donation which
goes towards CANSA’s prevention programmes and patient care services in the

ALGEMEEN
Lowveld receives healthy rain
Phalaborwa, Hoedspruit and surrounding
areas received a healthy dose of rain the past
few days.
Dams all over the province are overflowing
and farmers can only be thankful.
The Letaba and OIifants rivers have
reached the 100% mark, and then some.
The Klaserie Dam is currently 104% full,
partly thanks to the 53mm of rain that fell over
the dam last week.
Low level bridges are reportedly under
water, but according to Raymond Travis,
Media Liaison of National Parks, everything
is under control and no one is in any
danger.
Phalaborwa
has
already
received
320.8mm of rain this year, with signs of more
to come.
Hoedspruit will have a low of 17 deg C
today and tomorrow, with a high of 25 and 26
deg C respectively.
Saturday and Sunday will be very hot.
Saturday will bring a temperatures of 18 to
30 deg C, and Sunday 19 to 32 deg C.
Phalaborwa temperatures won’t differ very
much.
Expect today to start of at 21 deg C, with the
mercury eventually stopping on 28.
Friday’s low is predicted at 22 deg C, with
the high reaching the 30 deg C mark.
Both Saturday and Sunday will greet the
morning with 21 deg C.
The afternoons will be much hotter though,
with Saturday’s temperatures coming to a rest
at 33 deg C, and Sunday’s at a scorching 35
deg C.
Die o/5 spannetjies beproef hulle rugby-kennis.
Opgewondenheid tydens Maroelafees
mekaar aarde toe getrek, vekeerde kant toe
spelers.
volgende Brian Habbana is. Daar is geen stop
as die speler die bal kry nie. Hy hardloop
Daar is hard uit geroep: "tekkel tekkel, hard
loop, YES" Daar is goeie rugby gespeel, en
rugby is die spelers se lewe.
SKOLENUUS
PHALABORWA HERALD - Friday 6 March 2009
Letlhogonolo Ralepelle and Naledi Thaane show off the soccer and
netballs as well as the sport kits which was won in Tzaneen in the Bahle
Bagezile schools competition.
Gravelotte one of the
winning schools
Three schools in the Tzaneen/Phalaborwa area are among the
winners of the OMO/SPAR Bahle
Bagezile competition held at 75
SPAR stores.
First school to the ribbon receives a complete sports kit for
every child in the school. Runners
up receive netball or soccer kits
while each of the schools in third
place received soccer or netballs.
The winning schools in this
area are:
Gravelotte Laerskool – Sports
Kits.
Lekgolo Maake Primary School
– Soccer or netball kits.
Marobang Primary School –
Soccer or netballs.
"You know, the OMO/SPAR
idea was wonderful!" enthused a
very happy parent at one of winning schools, who had rallied
parents from her children's
school to make sure they would
be in the running. "It is not easy for
us parents to contribute to our
kids' schools like we want to,
because money is short and times
are hard. But this competition
helped us to support our children
and their schools - it was so easy.
All we had to do was write the
name of our school on the till slip
when we went to SPAR and put it
in the Bahle Bagezile box!"
Winners were announced to
the delight of eagerly listening
parents and teachers who ululated with joy when they realised
their school was one of the winners. Both principals and teachers
acclaimed the competition point-
ing out that the resources at their
schools are insufficient to afford
the equipment needed. All agreed
it will be not only a tremendous
boost for the learners, but also
encouragement for parents to participate in school life.
"We always look for ways to
become more involved in the
communities where we operate,"
commented spokesperson for
Spar, Mike Prentice. "OMO gave
us a magnificent opportunity. It is
a highly favoured product among
our shoppers and the lure of the
prizes caused heightened levels
of interest." Excitement in participating shops was almost tangible as results of shoppers'
choices were updated every three
weeks.
"Community projects aimed at
helping children achieve their full
potential are a natural fit for
OMO," smiled Ethne Whitley,
public affairs manager for Unilever, which manufactures OMO.
"When children participate in
activities such as sport they learn
many important life skills which
are invaluable to them as they
grow up! And so what if they get
dirty, Mums know that OMO sorts
out the stains”.
The OMO/SPAR Bahle Bagezile competition ran from October
to December 2008 and was promoted by extremely well attended roadshows. At many of the
schools, boxes of OMO in the
classroom kept the competition
top of mind and many principals
sent circulars to parents to encourage their participation.

op Impalapark
DIE FOKUS op vanjaar se
driedrukkompetisie skuif Vrydagaand na Impalapark op
Phalaborwa waar die tweede
ronde in vanjaar se kompetisie
aangebied gaan word.
Die kompetisie, wat geborg
word deur die LETABA en
PHALABORWA HERALDS
en
SIMPSON
MOTORS
In
die tweede wedstryd, wat om
19h30 begin, pak Phalaborwa 2
is.
regtig in staat is.

SKITTERENDE hardlooprugby, ‘n verrassing of
wen.
Haker Jaco Scholtz
van
Letaba
is
welverdiend as speler
van die wedstryd
aangewys.
In die hoof-voorwedstryd het Bosveld
van Hoedspruit vir ‘n
baie groot verrassing
gesoeg
deur
Phalaborwa met 5-1
te verslaan. Bosveld
oorrompel en hier is senter Jamie Sambo as
speller van die wedstryd aangewys. In die
volgende wedstryd was Letaba se naasbestes
eerstes teen Duiwelskloof kragte meet. Opwindende rugby word verwag en ‘n heerlike
aand se rugby lê vir almal voor.
