This information evening is designed for parents to
attend. It is our way of conveying to our Junior
School community specific curriculum information.
Each Junior School home room teacher will talk
about their particular class content and other
things which make their year level special.
Classrooms will be open for viewing as part of the
program.
We would like to give our parents a good
understanding of what and how we are teaching
their children.
NOTE: A children’s program will be provided on
the night in the ASC hall.
The information session will be followed by
supper.
We trust that you will be able to join us.
Please feel free to come along tonight and hear each
of our Junior teachers speaking about their curriculum
areas. These events are always a great opportunity to
get together and also to be more informed about the
students learning and our quality programs at CSCC.
Note: ASC staff will be providing activities for Junior
students in the ASC hall. Supper provided at the
conclusion of the evening.
Student Family Occupation (SFO)
All families will have received a letter in the last week,
regarding the Student Family Occupation data
required as part of the Victorian Non-Government
Schools Funding Agreement 2016.
Theses forms are due back by Friday 24th March.

Funds for Fiji
Food stall tonight and tomorrow night!
One of our year 3 students, Layla, has kindly offered to
make and sell rum balls, slices and truffles to raise
money for those who have had their homes and
livelihoods destroyed by TC Winston. These funds will
go to our sister school to distribute.
You can purchase something from Layla tonight and
tomorrow night at the end of the school day in front
of the church entrance. This is a great idea Layla,
thank you for your hard work in putting this together.
Our friends in Fiji will certainly appreciate the
assistance.
Netball 2016
We are very pleased to announce that for the 2016
netball season we will have students participating in
the Year 3 netball Clinic, two 11/Under teams (a Year 4
team and a Year 5 team) a 17/Under team and an
Open team.
Entries are being placed tomorrow but if you are still
considering playing we can add other players later.
Please let us know.
Coaches/parent supervisors are:

We also have a couple of senior girls who are willing to
take on the roles of umpires for a couple of these
teams. If anyone else is interested please let us know.
This is a paid position so we may have another young
person who would like to help as required. Please let
us know.
The Year 4 and Year 5 teams will be training on a
Thursday night straight after school starting on the 14th
of March. The first games are on Saturday the 16th of
April. Students are to wear their red CSCC sports shirt
and a navy blue skort (shorts for boys)
Please note there is no play on the 11th of June and the
2nd of July.
We look forward to another enjoyable season of
netball for our students and adults.
Prep Enrolments 2017
Letters to current families who have completed an
enrolment form will be sent out shortly. If you are a
current family and wish to enrol another child into
CSCC please make sure you complete an enrolment
form asap. We want to be able to notify families of
their successful application early next term.

sale at the office.

Year 7 2017
Letters to current Year 6 families will go out shortly
asking that they secure their place for Year 7 next
year. We will also complete this process by early
next term so that we can be aware of positions
available for new families who will be enquiring.
Winter Uniforms
Could families with students requiring winter
uniform items please come into the Uniform shop
next week to sort these out please. Winter uniforms
will not be required until a notice is placed in the
newsletter early next term, once the weather turns,
however, we need to know what is required for
ordering etc.
The hours for the Uniform Shop are every Tuesday,
Wednesday & Thursday 8:30am to 9:00am and
3:00pm to 4:00pm. We will not be opening up for
any families on non-uniform shop days, so we ask
that you kindly wait for the appropriate days. Thank
you.
After school Maths classes Year 6 - 10
Classes are held each Monday straight after school in
Room 11. Classes are provided free of charge to our
students and are taken by Mrs Kirsty Seipolt.

Tips for Behaviour Management
Behaviour problems and what is normal behaviour in a child is determined by child's age,
physical and emotional development, personality and what is socially and culturally
acceptable in his or her surroundings. A child who may be considered normal in one part
of the world may be considered as one with behaviour problem in other part of the world.
Family's expectations, whether the action is disruptive and what is expected from an
average child of that age determined whether a child has 'good' behaviour or a 'bad' one.
Children learn to behave in a certain manner by observing other people.
Behaviours that are appreciated or rewarded may make the children repeat them again
and again and the behaviours that are ignored or warrant punitive actions are normally
dropped off. It is the consistency of the parents that helps the child decide, whether to
continue a behaviour or not. Rewarding a behaviour at one time and punishing the child
for it on another, may just confuse the child and your child may develop behaviour
problem. Sometimes, we may have to decide whether the behaviour is not a problem
depending on the child's age and stage of development. Ignoring unwanted or 'bad'
behaviour is the best way to stop it in the long term as some children just repeat the
actions as they crave for your attention, whether it is positive or negative.
When more drastic steps are needed to make the child stop a certain behaviour, you may
use the time-out method as a way of punishment. Explain once but do not discuss bad
behaviour again and again. Reinforce good behaviour by giving rewards. Reward system
works best for children above two years of age and it may take about two months to
make the children understand how it works. Parents need to be patient. Keeping a diary
and targeting just one or two behaviours to change at once makes it easier for kids and
parents too. Behaviours you choose can include brushing teeth before going to bed,
keeping toys and books in their place and good table manners. Rewards can be simple
fun activities that you share with your children such as an extra bedtime story, allowing
children to delay their bedtime by half an hour to watch their favourite cartoon, a
preferred snack or points for older children that they can collect and use to get a special
toy or favour from you. Before switching a child doing one thing to another, tell him
beforehand, such as in five minutes, playtime will be over or it's dinnertime in another
ten minutes. Punishments and shouting at children may just make them rebellious or they
may repeat the behaviour to get your attention, which they may crave for more than any
reward. Simply, do not give them the reward that they would have got, if they had
behaved in the desired way.

GRIP Leadership Conference
Friday 15th April at the Capital Theatre
The Year 6 students have an exciting opportunity to
attend a National Leadership Conference being held
in Bendigo. The Grip Leadership team is touring
Australia and is travelling to Bendigo. Throughout the
day, our students will have the opportunity to learn
about different ways to lead, how leadership has a
positive impact in their setting and how leadership is
really about working as a team. Attendance at this
event is required by all of our Year 6 students.
Cost: The cost has already been covered in College
fees.
Uniform: Full summer uniform
Year 7 - No Student of the Week awarded last week.
Food: Please bring Morning Recess, a packed lunch
and a water bottle in your Creek Street schoolbag.

We will leave Creek Street Christian College at
8.30am, therefore, students are required to be at
school before 8.30 am to allow time to walk to the
Capital Theatre. Students are to come directly to
Room 16 on arrival to school. We will return to
school by 3.15pm.

In last week’s newsletter, some Year 6 students were
featured working on their digital licences. The Digital
Licence consists of eight learning modules which
evaluate comprehension of key technology and
cybersafety topics and equip children with the
knowledge and skills they require to learn, play and
socialise online. Each module took approximately 15
minutes to complete. In addition to teaching core digital
skills, the Digital Licence promotes conversations about
online safety between young people and their parents,
carers and teachers.
The Digital Licence was made available to every Year 6
student in Australia - almost 300,000 children - thanks to
a grant of over $1.2 million from Google. The free
licences were accessed by Year 6 teachers from the
Digital Licence website: www.digitallicence.com.au.
Several of the Year 6 students have completed or are
nearing completion of their certificate. Students are
requested to complete the Digital Licence for
homework. This has been a cross curricula project
involving Health, Computers and English.
Well done Year 6.
Staff attending will be Mrs Cherry and a parent
assistant.

Year 8 - Perfect Potato Frittata
SpinChat Visitor
To enhance students’ understanding of the very real
potential risks associated with water activities, Year 7
- 10 were fortunate to listen to a visiting speaker,
Rhiannon, from SpinChat Australia.
The latest statistics indicate that 15-24 year olds are
the group most at risk of acquiring a spinal cord
injury. The SpinChat program aims to address this
at-risk group by raising awareness and promoting the
prevention of spinal cord injury amongst high school
students.
Year 9 Science - Boomerang
On Tuesday 22nd of March, the
Year 9 Science class will be
walking to Quarry Hill Recreation
Reserve during regular class time.
They will be testing and
practicing
their
throwing
techniques with the Boomerangs that they made in
Science. Hopefully we will have many successful
groups on the day, and their boomerangs come
back!
